We’re not complaining - Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens is the perfect place for a day trip when city life gets too much! Because of it’s accessible location, calming walking routes and great places to picnic, the gardens managed by are a must-visit for anyone based in Gauteng.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The first ever Blue Drop Report in 2009 indicated that the national microbiological compliance for South African tap water was measured at 93.3% against the National Standard (SANS 241). This compliance increased to 97.3% in 2012 and greater than 97.0% in 2014.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I experienced a lot of firsts while there. I had my very first seal snorkeling experience which was amazing - once you get a hold of breathing through the mouth piece that is!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The seals are playful and swimming in the middle of the ocean is just something else."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Bantu Stephen Biko was born on 18 December 1946 at his grandmother's house in Tarkastad, Eastern Cape He was the third child of Mzingaye Mathew Biko and Alice 'Mamcete' Biko.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The name Tarkastad is believed to come from the Khoi-Khoi word Traka (meaning women) and the Afrikaans word Stad (meaning city). The fact that the town is overlooked by Martha and Mary; two peaks which look like two women resting after a hard day's work, also lends to the name.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

District Six is a former inner-city residential area in Cape Town where over 60 000 of its inhabitants were forcibly removed during the 1970s by the Apartheid regime. The museum facilitates the remembrance of these inhabitants, and while the historically dispossessed people of the District return to the area as a result of the land restitution process, the Museum commits itself to deepening its memory work by supporting and facilitating the reconstruction of the landscape and the community in both material and intangible ways.

The museum is currently under threat due to the impact of COVID-19 and a loss of funding. The campaign is currently raising funds through donations, auctioning art, and hosting various events. To contribute and learn more visit on Instagram.

A few weeks back we caught up with adventure seeker Luntu Ayabulela Quntana about his fun horse riding outing.

He visited the Alpha Equestrian Center in the heart of the Cape Winelands in Paarl.

He said, “It was my first time riding a horse, I was nervous in the beginning but it was great once I got the hang of it. I had an experience of a lifetime! I would highlight recommend that people try it at least once!”

The Alpha Equestrian Center is a community, and a place where people and horses can look forward to each riding and interactive experience. They provide a short training session before you enjoy a 1 hour ride with the beautiful backdrop of mountains!
