Did you know that today is World Storytelling Day? 📚

Here at Toowoomba Trails we have highly trained storytellers who delight in bringing history to life. The art of a good story is the weaving of a linking narrative that reinforces a consistent theme or message. Good storytelling is not simply recounting an event or the history of something. Good storytelling is memorable. That is why each and every one of Toowoomba Trails innovative Tours has an overarching theme:

“The most important piece of transport infrastructure ever constructed in the state” – our Railway tour.
“Out of bad comes good” – our Darkside tour.
“Finding the language of architecture in Toowoomba’s city buildings” – our Architecture tour.
“Laneways bring a city to life by giving it a heart” – our Laneways tour.
“Toowoomba life from Kings to Butchers to Midwives” - our Mort Estate tour.

We’d love to share these stories with you while hearing some of your own! Find out more about our upcoming tours, and become part of the Toowoomba Trails story with us.

HAPPY IWD!

Did you know that the first female mayor in Queensland was from Toowoomba? Nellie Robinson served in office for 14 from 1961, becoming an officer of the Order of the British Empire for “distinguished service to local government” during her time. Today, like any, is a great day to remind ourselves of all the amazing contributions of women like Nellie Robinson to our region!

Yesterday we visited the lovely at their first opening of their new vintage studio! The studio is located in their award-winning garden at Lorea House, which has seen them take home Grand Champion Garden in the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers twice. It’s the perfect backdrop for all their vintage treasures and we’re so excited to head back for a stitching class and another studio opening soon. 💐🏡

2017 marked the 150th anniversary the opening of the Ipswich to Toowoomba railway. 🚂 A special moment in our town’s history, this anniversary sparked the creation of Paul’s latest addition to his walk roster, where he explores the railway precinct from the goods shed to the railway station and honour board. This year, the tour will carry on under the new name Tracks of Time: Queensland’s Railway Heritage Unveiled. This title is an ode to the significance of the railway to Toowoomba, arguably the most important piece of transport infrastructure ever built in the state of Queensland. We believe this deserves to be celebrated and in joining Paul on this walking tour, we hope you too will marvel in its architectural beauty, rich history and all the stories in between.

Walk details:
• Date: Sunday May 19
• Time: 10am-12pm
• Location: Meet at the Goods Shed, ends at the Railway Station
• Ticket pricing begins at $35, and includes a drink with your guide at the end of the tour! 🎉
