CAMP II - AMA DABLAM ⛺️

• Ama Dablam's Camp II is set on a rocky outcrop at approximately 6,100 m (20,000 ft). It often serves as the final resting point before climbers depart for the summit.

• Ama Dablam Mountain in Nepal stands at 6,812m and is known as the ‘mountaineers mountain’ due to its technical nature and difficult terrain. Many mountaineers come from all over the world to test their technical ability amidst the high altitude of the Himalayas.

Key Monastery is over 1000-year-old. It is the oldest training centre for Lamas. It is located at a height of 13,668 feet above mean sea level in Lahaul Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh in north India.

Founded by Dromton, a famous disciple of teacher Atisha in the 11th century, the monastery used to house about 350 lamas at one time.

The monastery is famous for its architecture called Pasada style. Pasada style is characterised by two or more stories and often plays the role of a fort-monastery. The monastery is spread over three floors – underground, ground and first floor. Underground is mainly utilized for storage; ground floor is used as assembly hall, called Du-Khang. The ground floor also has small rooms for monks.

The rooms with murals called Tangyur is a must see. The monastery is known for its ancient murals, rare thangkas and ancient weapons. The images of Gautam Buddha in dhyana (meditation) position are a must see. The monastery also has a sizeable collection of musical instruments like trumpets, cymbals and drums.

Key Monastery was destroyed by invaders and rebuilt several times. In 1840 it caught fire and in 1975, it suffered extensive damage due to an earthquake. Having been rebuilt several times, temples and other buildings appear to have been stacked haphazardly. The monastery appears like a fortress.

The scenic landscape which forms the backdrop for Key Monastery is also a factor in the large number of tourists making a beeline for the remote monastery. Surrounded by snow capped mountains and glaciers, the beauty of the valley is breathtaking. The route to Key Monastery is also beautiful.

The culture of Key, like the rest of Spiti, closely resembles that of Tibet. It is hardly surprising then that the whole of Spiti is known as Little Tibet. Chham (mask dance) by monks are very popular and an integral part of festivities. The themes of the dance emphasize the victory of good over evil.

the Flowers on the top of the cap are found inside the hard leaves of a tree.
They are also brought by the relatives along with the pins to attach them to the "thepang' and every member of the family receives this from at least one person from each household that's invited....🌻

Dodra & Kwar villages

Not a moment of life is wasted in village. Others may have been more places but haven't outlived me ✨
Dodra and Kwar – (डोड्रा और क्वार) are two beautiful villages nestled in remote part of Himalayas in state of Himachal Pradesh (India). Situated at a height of 2500 mts above sea level, both the villages of Dodra and Kwar are separated by River Rupin which is a tributary of River Yamuna. Recently (Year 2009) connected through a motorable road, though seasonal, this pocket retains a pristine beauty.

There are countless wild flowers and medicinal herbs, thick woods of flowering rhododendron, cedar and birch, waterfalls and fast-flowing streams. All this is set against a majestic backdrop of high peaks like the Sharangcha. The villages and their temples, are remarkable examples of local wood work skill and come packed with fascinating legends.

Dodra and Kwar are two villages on the opposite sides of the valley separated by Rupin river that merges into Tons river. It borders with Uttarakhand and is a famous trek from Naitwar as well. You can even cross Rupin pass from Sangla in Kinnaur to reach this region.

Safety isn’t expensive, its priceless

Do you know the journey of the Rupin river? It forms on the Rupin Pass trek from the icemelt on the Western flank of the pass. It further forms a puddle of sorts at the base of the pass. It becomes wider near Upper Waterfall, where it gathers momentum from all the melting snow on the mountains around, and comes crashing down as the Rupin Waterfall. .

This river ventures down as River Rupin all the way to Naitwar (you drive through Naitwar while going to Sankri). At Naitwar, Rupin meets River Supin (which flows from the Har Ki Dun and Ruinsara valleys). The confluence of these rivers is called Tons, which eventually meets River Yamuna, which finally flows into the Bay of Bengal. .

On another note, the water that melts on the Eastern flank of Rupin Pass, flows all the way into Sutlej, later joining the Arabian sea! .

It's fascinating to read about the rivers of our country! .

Everything on earth is continuously transformed, because the earth is alive and it has a soul.

We are part of that soul, so we rarely recognise that it is working for us.
Be it yesterday, toady or tomorrow.💫

Throwback!!

Of all the places I have been to so far, the double dekker root bridge in Meghalaya has been the most mesmerising natural wonders to me. The beauty of this bridge was double in magnitude and colour since it was raining ceaselessly when we visited this place and of course, rain turns everything more gorgeous . After trekking almost 3900 stairs down the hill, you get to visualise this most fascinating creation. And the ivory river water flowing just below the bridge, adds more into its beauty. 🌼
Completely drenched in rain, we enjoyed the charm of this place with a hot cup of tea and a bowl of yummy Maggi. 🥗 It was a treat to be at this place.
Its been almost one year that I have visited Meghalaya but the place still attracts me like a magnet.

Vagabonding is not like bulk shopping! The value of your travels does not hinge on how many stamps you have in your passport when you get home. The slow, nuanced experience of a single country is always better than the hurried, superficial experience of forty countries. — From Vagabonding.
🚲
When I took a trip to Indonesia, I chose to remain on one small island for 10 days (and also explore only limited areas of that island). Many of the folks wondered why 10 DAYS. While I wished for more days to really soak into the place. You take a pause from what you have already read about the place, you go beyond the guide books and blogs. You explore the unseen and unknown. And that my friends, is true Vagabonding!
🚲
No days could ever justify a place! To really get to know a place, you might need months or maybe in some cases, a lifetime!

This was my first visit to this village, plan was flexible and my driver asked to skip it and almost convinced me. But my inner voice was not ready to skip it. I’m glad that I visited this village. Not all who visit Nubra, explore this village because it takes a complete day. .

Yes this is my favourite village in India where I would love to visit again and again 💙

Happy while driving to this village and this picture was from a chai break 🐦

Nako village

On your journey, you hop on from place to place and each place has its own stories to tell.
Living in the villages , has its own sweet taste . Meeting the locals , exploring the villages , eating local food , that rustic smell which I may not be able to describe but each one of you who has lived in a village, knows .

Amazing isn't it?

This was Nako Village and the amount of warmth this place gave me ,knows no bounds.
I sat by the frozen lake , all by me , for as long as I can remember (Until I was called by and had to rush back 🤦🏽‍♀️) It was a beautiful feeling back then
I wish I was quarantined in Nako

Where do you wish you should have been quarantined?
