🌀 Hey guys and gals, dropping in to do a quick little hurricane checkin with everyone about the area. Slowly but surely, things and places are opening back up. Treasure Island, Clearwater Beach and parts of St Pete Beach are open up (sand wise). Restaurants, bars, hotels and small businesses are also popping up daily. This is a huge win for our area. 🌴

Many of you have asked over the last month or so how you could help the area and where to plug in for donations and volunteering. I spoke with many of you and let you know that as soon as I'd found a "home" for myself in this process, I'd let you know.

📍 Madeira Beach Hurricane Relief Center is my volunteer home for the next 6-8 months. Saltwater Hippie and Raising Relief have partnered together to open a HUGE donation center for all the barrier island people/families that have been affected by Helene and Milton.

I was able to put in 40+ hours last week to help collect and gather donations, organize inventory and help run the center as was needed. What an amazing opportunity to help the community and meet so many amazing people.

Here's where we could use the help -- if you're local (or on vacation and have some spare time), please consider 🔸 VOLUNTEERING🔸

If you're local and want to contribute to donations personally, I will attach a picture of things needed and where I have found some good prices on those things. Walmart and Target are doing Black Friday pricing already on their small appliances which is HUGE and Ollie's (by my house) had super inexpensive laundry detergent which is heavily needed.

If you're far away and want to help make a difference, I can accept donations via Venmo with full transparency and accountability and do the shopping for you and post in the comments. The relief center also will have a Venmo/Amazon Wishlist that they are posting soon as well.

✨ Manifesting ✨ amazing things and can't wait to tell you guys next time I see you, some truly awesome stories that have been happening at the center.

This is BIG news for the area and helps the moral of everyone locally -- I honestly wouldn't trust the water yet 🦠🐚🪸 I would give it a little bit of time -- but for those that need a mental break from the highs and lows of everyday life right now, go breath in some salt air and catch a sunset in your happy place.

So proud to call this man and his family/friends our clients. Above and beyond not just for these storms, but for others in the past.

So grateful for them and their tribe in Utah for taking care of the people in our backyard 💪🏼🛠️

People helping people.
That's how we rebuild.
One day at a time.

We WILL rebuild quickly 💪🏼🛠️🗑️

This beautiful area (and our great state) is getting the help it so desperately needs.

Today, we visited Treasure Island, which has weathered two major hurricanes in just two weeks. Debris removal here and in every community hit by these storms is essential to residents’ quality of life.

In the past, this debris removal process has taken far too long—up to a year or more, drawn out by bureaucracy and paperwork. Florida deserves better than that.

Although clean-up is the primary responsibility of local governments, we’re continuing to surge state personnel and assets to speed up debris removal. I am directing over 2,800 personnel from the state to continue to work on this mission in storm-affected areas statewide. We will work around the clock until debris removal is complete. As I announced yesterday, we have also cut red tape at the state level to further expedite this process.

Every locality in Florida impacted by these storms owes it to their residents to place the utmost priority and urgency on debris removal, just as we are doing at the state level. To that end, I have directed the Division of Emergency Management to issue an emergency order that requires local governments to report the number of cubic yards of debris they remove every day, and we will post those figures publicly on the new State of Florida Debris Transparency Portal.

This portal will give the public an extra measure of accountability and visibility into their local governments’ debris removal progress.

The federal government has decided to cover 100% of debris removal costs for 90 days, so every day counts on this mission. It must be a 24/7 effort. Let's get to it.

😞🪣🌴 Was really hoping they'd pull thru on this with some time between now and then.

Sanding Ovations is officially CANCELLED.

It is with great sadness that the city of Treasure Island announces the cancellation of our popular Sanding Ovations Masters Cup, originally scheduled for November 21-24, with an encore weekend from November 30 to December 1. The widespread devastation caused by Hurricanes Helene and Milton has left our beloved beach and community in a state of recovery that will not allow us to host this year’s event.

The damage to the beach's infrastructure, including the destruction of the beach’s electric systems, combined with the unsuitable condition of the sand, makes it impossible for us to proceed with the event safely. Additionally, our host hotels cannot accommodate guests, and parking lots are being utilized for ongoing recovery operations.

Our committee members, many of whom live on the island, have also been personally affected by the storms and must now focus on rebuilding their homes and supporting the broader community's recovery efforts.

Sanding Ovations is Treasure Island’s signature event and one of the primary attractions that has helped position our city as one of the most popular beach destinations in the country. The event, featuring world-class sand sculptures, live music, food and craft vendors, a kite festival, and a fireworks display, has become a celebration of the natural beauty of our beaches and community.

We are heartbroken that we cannot share this experience with the thousands of attendees who travel from around the world to enjoy it each year. However, our focus must now be on healing and rebuilding our community.

We look forward to bringing Sanding Ovations back stronger than ever in the future and thank everyone for their continued support and understanding during this challenging time.

Next year’s Sanding Ovations dates will be Nov. 20-23, with the Encore Weekend Nov. 29-30.

Stay strong, Treasure Island. We will get through this.

😔 Our beautiful city.

🌀 The 400 block crane fell that was working on high rise construction downtown. Luckily they knew there was the possibility for it to occur and had urged everyone in the area to evacuate for the storm. It hit the Tampa Bay Times building and they are saying no injuries. Those that were in the area when it collapsed said it sounded like a bomb went off when it landed.

⚾ Tropicana Field (The Trop) is where they had staging set for all the linemen over the next few weeks. Luckily, they had moved them to another location before the roof came off.

To all of our wonderful clients and friends: we are evacuated and safe in MILTON, FL 🫣 We are expecting the worst at our personal home. We will update once the storm passes on what the next week will look like for us and reservations.

This is a nice win for the area. Symon and I had the pleasure of taking the Ferry one night to a hockey game and it was such a great experience that we talk about doing it a lot but the dates/times never lined up. Glad it's back full time 🛥️

The Cross Bay Ferry that links St. Pete and Tampa commuters will return this week - this time with year-round service. Starting October 4th, the Cross Bay Ferry will resume operations, shuttling passengers from the local terminus at Port St. Pete (250 8th Avenue SE) and the Tampa Convention Center

🌀 Hurricane Helene Hero 🌀

Now that my brain has had a couple days to process some of what's happened since the storm hit Thursday, I'd like to share a story with you about one of many hometown heros that are out there getting $hit done and operating in the grey when it's needed.

I had a client in town that chose to stay out on Sunset Beach and ride out the storm. She was on my list to reach out to pre-storm but I knew she had friends in the area that could scoop her up and get her out with them and I never made it fully thru my list with everything going on. I reached out at midnight Thursday/Friday when the worst was coming thru and thought for sure I'd wake up to a text from her that she was safe and nestled up somewhere in Tampa.

My heart dropped when she text me Friday and I realized she'd stayed. Never in a million years would I want someone to go thru that experience -- especially someone here on holiday 😔 The barrier islands were shut off to everyone on Friday, so there weren't many resources or options to come off. By Saturday she was ready to go -- and I'm surprised she toughed it out that long. No power. No water. And Sunset Beach was one of the worst to get hit.

I was able to connect some resources together and finally got a friend of a friend who was running a boat back and forth to go rescue my dear client and bring her to me on the mainland. I cannot thank Norris with Rock Bottom Sportfishing and his extra hand on deck enough for going out of their way to help her with her bags get to a safe place.

There are so many amazing people right now that are going above and beyond to put themselves out there and help in so many amazing ways. There's too many to list and they know who they are.
