115 Bukit Merah View Market & Hawker Centre

STINKapore is really a scary place. Today i was "CHOPPED" by a hawker. I did not cause a scene or trying to argue with the hawker on the price. I have eaten in many economical rice stall or even Nasi Lemak Stalls (if you guys wanna debate on the stalls). But this is the first time that im PAYING $10 for this kind of lunch {1 miserable piece of pork chop, 1 chicken wing, 1 tofu with veg, 1 Yong Tau Foo and 1 bitter gourd (one portion each nothing more)}. Im not sure did he make a mistake? But i did asked him one more time and he repeated $10 without battling his eyes. $10 for 5 dishes; 2 meat and 3 non meat. WOW!!!! Its not that i can't afford. I have eaten more varieties than this and paying less plus it is at a coffee shop. This is a hawker centre. WTF!!! Even when i ate at Waterfront food court, the most im paying is $8+. But to pay $10 for 5 types of dishes at a hawker centre this is absurb!!! Its like telling me that per dish is $2.

Anyway they can only cheat me once. Im definitely not going back to patronise them again.

📍 1A Commonwealth Dr, #01-04 141001, Singapore 141001

We reach the place at 7pm sharp and the queue is already quite long. Not sure if it is because it is a Saturday night. It took us one hour to have our order taken. But the food was ready in about 15 mins.

Chicken chop on the outside is crispy but the meat is very tender and juicy. The sauce that comes with it is very flavourful and unique as it is like a fusion between Western and Hainanese cuisine.

I find that fish and chips is a bit oily. The taste is quite unique as the batter used is very special as I have not eaten any fish and chips in this kind of batter. Like the sauce that came with it. Very flavourful. Owner is very generous with everything. The portion of the side dishes and the size of the fish is quite huge. Really worth the price and time queuing for it.

The ordering system is a bit messy as there are no proper Q system. The best is to sit close to the stall so you won't miss your order. They should really improve this.

At around 8.30pm the crowd dwindled… As they are preparing to close for the day. I heard that the owner only works about 2 hours a day. So if you are really interested to taste this, you may have to come early to queue for it. Not forgetting they might be moving soon as the market is slated to be demolished by the end of 2021.

Will I come back again? You bet!

Famous Amoy St Lor Mee *Lost & Found*
📍 Whampoa Hawker Centre
91 Whampoa Drive Singapore 320091

This is one of the best lor mee in Singapore.. Love the thick gravy which don’t turns watery even after I finish my meal.. The ingredients are generously given for the $3 portion that I ordered. I got few big pieces of crispy ngor hiong, big pieces of fried fish, braised pork and additional boiled egg.

The portion might look very small but it is very filling as the ingredients are a lot and in big pieces..

💰Lor Mee $3.00

The reason why we chose these 3 stores is because we feel that they are the slightly more popular ones and should be of the same category. Though there are brands like Nam Kee, Sheng Kee, Yeap Seng Etc. But we still feel that they are in the same league in terms of their popularity and history in Singapore....

The most important reason we did this blind test is we keep arguing which brand is the nicest of all. We took the bus and trains to different locations to buy it. This is definitely not a paid tasting.

Below are what we think of the BAOs and SIEWMAIs!

𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿 𝗦𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗕𝗮𝗼
🟡 TR – Most bland and least juicy. Smallest too.
🔴 HK – Had the thickest skin among all. Not as juicy and flavourful as compared to TB Bao.
🔵 TB – Juiciest and flavourful. But the char siew sauce is a bit salty.

𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗕𝗮𝗼
🟡 TR – Smallest and a hint of sweetness. Not really to my liking.
🔴 HK – Biggest among them. A bit blend and not as juicy.
🔵 TB – Juiciest among all. Most flavourful. More fillings. You can taste the turnip and chive. The meat is made of sliced meat and not minced meat.

𝗦𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗠𝗮𝗶
🟡 TR – Smallest, salty and not as starchy. Can taste the meat
🔴 HK – Bit Starchy. Least salty among all. The meat and ingredients all blended together. Favourite among all.
🔵 TB – Most Juicy but also the saltiest among all. It is also the biggest in size.

Was surprised of the results as we all along thought that HoKee Bao is the one that most suit our taste. But today we found out that Tiong Bahru Bao is the one that we really like and is the best among the 3 brands. Of course everyone's taste is distinctive. This blind test only shows our own preference towards them.

Date and time visited - 20 Jan 2021 5.50pm

Price $38.80 excluding 10% service charge and 7% GST.

Price - 2 stars (consider low as compared to many hotel buffet but the varieties just couldn't make it)

Variety - 1 stars

Taste - 2 stars

Overall - 1 stars (If i can, i will give 0 stars. (Im not joking))

COME AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! Im not sure why there are so many 5 stars given (I REALLY WONDER).

I have ate better buffet before. The reason for me coming is that i saw many good reviews. Have never wanted to try here bcos of the price as i preferred a slight pricier ones because their quality and varieties are most of the time better. Im very disappointed in their service and quality of their food. We reach like 5.50pm though the restaurant will open at 6pm. I thought the restaurant will at least sit us in to make us feel comfortable. Yes... You guess it right... No they did not. Because they are busy chatting away. One of the gals just told us one queue up and the rest wait outside the queue. Exactly at 6pm sharp, the gal came over and ask me for my name and number paxs bla bla bla. After paying we were ushered to our table. The gal we have to place our food order through an IPad and the maximum items per order is 20. But their system sucks every order that we keyed in, it will takes around 15 to 30 mins for it to come. The food that comes are often lukewarm if not warm. Mind you... Its really lukewarm...meaning close to cold. How do you eat a chilli crab which is not hot. We order quite a few times but all came lukewarm. Isnt it true that it should be served piping hot? To make matter worse this restaurant i believe wasted a lot of food. Because the Chilli Crab was served together with 2 pieces of mantou. So imagine i order 5 chilli crab and we were served 10 mantou. we did not finish the mantou. So imagine how many mantou has to be thrown away everyday. Not sure why they cannot serve the mantou under another item instead of banding them together?

If you think the food is bad their service is bad as their food. Inattentive, rude, cannot be bothered attitude. Im not sure if the restaurant is shorthanded. But we only have like maybe 8 tables so it shouldnt be too hard serving all the customers. When we call the server how do we check what was being ordered. She just told us to look at the IPad.... What a joke... Please dont tell me that we do not know how an Ipad works. But which part of the Ipad should we look into?? We tried but we dont see the order that we punch in. Then she asked did you order within 20 items. Yes, of course because anything more than that you cant even sent. Then she asked us how many times did we sent our orders....We said quite a few times because many times we are unsure what else we wanted so we just sent first. Guess what she told us?? She said each person is only allowed to order 4 times and if we have 5 paxs total order will be 20 times (Im NOT JOKING) thats what that server told us. I was shocked so i asked her is this buffet? If yes why would there be a limit to the numbers of order or quantity? She just keep quiet and walks away. Our rubbish and plates on the tables are also not promptly cleared. So imagine when the order came we have to hold it in our hands and getting the staff to clear the tables.

By the way it was not full house yesterday.

The only food that is worth mentioning are satay, sushi, chocolate fudge cake. But the satay sauce is cold. Chocolate fudge cake very very small piece and sushi rice too much (see attached photos)

Pao Fan(泡饭) means soaked rice in seafood broth..

The portion seems a lil too little but We loveeee the crispy puffed rice which was poured over upon serving!! It really enhance the taste of the rice.. I would say if you go without the crispy rice topping, the whole bowl of rice will be bland.. The ingredients given are quite generous but the rice are really way too little..

Swee Guan Hokkien Mee
📍 5 Lor 29 Geylang, Singapore 388060

The queue was not too bad when we went on Sunday evening. This stall is famous for their charcoal fried Hokkien me, to be honest, based on the online reviews, we went there with high expectations but both our comment was our first try as well as our last one for this stall. The noodles are 80% yellow noodles with like 20% of thin rice noodle.. We ordered $15 which is the large on with large prawns but the portion was pathetic.. but the portion for squid is quite generous.. the Hokkien mee has a very strong charcoal taste but they don’t have the ‘wok hei’ as the noodles are pre-cook in a big wok.. I can’t even taste the fragrant smell of pork lard in this dish..

Not sure why they dont put a price list to show. I mean people like us going there on the first time. We have to ask her how much for a plate. the lady who took our order will tell you $10 for one person portion and $15 for 2 person portion. If you probe further she will tell you $6 for small, $8 for medium and $10 for large. I happened to see the $6 portion which only has one big prawn in it. To be honest $15 portion its just enough for one person too. The noodles are just too little.

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 - Overrated Hokkien Mee with pathetic portion and bad service..

Fried Chicken Wing - Did somebody just say chicken wing? Is it just an ordinary chicken wing? Hell no... ! Lol....! It is so heavenly!! The chicken wings are well marinated and flavourful.... best thing is, it was served hot!!

Chicken Rice - The chicken rice tastes very normal, I will say below average. Roast chicken is quite tender but not flavourful enough and the rice is not fragrant enough, quite old school but I believe there are other better options outside.

Chili - Chili is above average but a bit too watery.. The level of spiciness can be slightly higher..

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 - The queue was like one hour.. Is it worth the queue? The answer is YES!! The chicken wings are definitely worth queuing!!

📍 Hotel Miramar
401 Havelock Road, Singapore 169631

𝗦𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗺𝗶 (𝗥𝗮𝘄 𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗵) - Very fresh!! Generous cut (not stingy)

𝗦𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗶 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗼🍣🍱 - Fantastic as most of them are nice. Love both the Temaki ❤️.

𝗬𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗼 (𝗚𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝘀) - The Saba fish is good

𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗮 & 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗼 (𝗗𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝘀) 🍤- Cannot make it. Most of them tasteless if not all. The Tori Karaage is worse than those package ones sold at supermarket.

𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 - Acceptable as the restaurant is fully book on that day. Would be best if they serve with a smile.

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 - Advance booking is a must‼️There are 2 buffet seating which is approximately for 2 hours. But the actual buffet is approximate 1 hour 15mins because last order was called 45mins before the buffet ends. The waiting time for the dishes to be served takes too long. With this kind of pricing the choices are a bit too little if you minus off the noodles and rice selections. The only thing that will make me wanna come back it’s their sashimi!

Hidden authentic and affordable Thai food in the industrial estate without having to fly to The Land of Smiles🙏🏻🇹🇭!!

𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗲 - It is braised until the meat is extremely soft and the skin of the trotter just melt in our mouth.. Served with a braised egg🥚, pickled vegetables, thick gravy and the special homemade garlic chili that adds a punch to the dish!

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗶 𝗞𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽🍲 - Comes in a myriad of ingredients that include the kway, lean pork meat, pork skin, tau pok, tau kee, braised egg🥚 and thick mushroom pieces. The broth is flavourful and less peppery and taste even better after adding in the thai chili flakes..Well, that is always a MUST for Thai Kway Chap isn’t it?😉

𝗣𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗳 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗻 - Well marinated moist and tender chicken. Taste is fantastic but it will be much better if they can give a slightly generous portion..

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 - 𝐴𝑟𝑜𝑖 𝑀𝑎𝑘 (very delicious in Thai)😍
Very authentic taste👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. Surprised to see so many different types of chilli. Love the garlic vinegar chilli out of the lot. Hope they would expand their menu choices.
