° raw herring ° do you love it or hate it? People from thr Netherlands (especially at the coast) have been eating raw herring for over 600 years. Traditionally, eating herring was mostly a practical matter. The fish is rich in nutrients and fat. When kept in a barrel of salt, it can be eaten all winter. Needless to say, raw herring is an acquired taste and this silvery, slimy snack is definitely not for everyone. Nevertheless, it holds a special place in many Dutch people's hearts and has been a staple dish of the Netherlands since the Middle Ages. â¤ď¸đłđąđ
