When someone tells me that they are going to visit Belize, and do I have any advice for them. After 8 years of traveling about Belize I feel that I have some valuable points.
I give them my ever growing:
List of Things to Know in Belize.
1. 24 hour power is a thing
2. Not using single use plastic makes a difference.
3. Wipe your bottle top, make it a habit.
4. You only sweat when you do stuff.
5. Plastic sucks, seriously. Mind your trash. 90% of the garbage you see is plastic.
6. Sweat rag can kill yellow flies.
7. Yellow flies suck as well.
8. Belikin Light is not better than Belikin.
9. Learn to like your beverage warm.
10. Yellow flies like your joints, not those joints.
11. Your phone screen is always tacky.
12. If its on the menu that doesn't mean it's available.
13. You are not in charge.
14. Drive like a Belizian.
15. You better like lizards.
16. Don't be shy. Smile and talk to people.
17. Bring your own TP.
18. You won't survive the zombie apocalypse.
19. I am a giant here.
20. Humidity hates toilet paper.
21. My mom didn't raise a wimp.
22. Want not, waste not.
23. Don't bitch.
24. Kids love toys, bring a few to giveaway.
25. It's hot. No really.
26. Sit quietly and watch.
27. Lime makes almost everything better. Seriously I put that sh¿t on everything.

35. It's always in Belizian, 2-1. (Not dollars, yen, pesos, euros or anything else. Don't ask, makes you look silly.)
36. The wife thinks she's funny. And she is 42%.

38. Bodega beverages can be sketchy. Freshness.
39. Your car is tougher than you think it is.
40. 95% of the people you meet are awesome. Smile and wave.
41. Don't park under coconut palms.
42. Check your broom for lizards.
43. Drink water.
44. There is no OSHA.
45. Get the 4x4 jeep.
46. Don't depend on your time line, Belize hurries for no one.
47. Don't count on anything being the same twice.
48. Everybody loves a puppy, dogs not so much.
49. Mile 18, Hummingbird Highway is a most peculiar house.
50. Live the life.
51. Don't pet the dog or cat.
52. Really hot. By like 9 am.
53. Summer, the rainy season, is when things flower.
54. Seriously, bring your own toilet paper.
55. Slow down. Soak it in.
56. Bring a pair of pants (but it will be to late) that's why you bought the zip on pant/shorts.
57. Food is never fast. And that is OK.
58. Never grab trees. Everything bites, strings or stabs.
59. Look down before you stand still. Ants suck.
60. Green alcohol makes the bug bites stings stop.
61. Speed bumps/Pedestrian crossings are not a joke.
62. It feels good.
63. I'm lucky to have her.
64. There is no winter or summer, just the rainy or dry season.
65. Forget everything you know about shopping, grocery or anything.
66. Ambergris, San Pedro and Placencia aren't the real Belize, sorry. There nice if you like that kind of thing.
67. Eat roadside food places. Shack and stall food is the best you will ever have.
68. Have whatever they serve. Seriously try the foods. Black dinner is awesome!
69. Get the guide. Not the tour.
70. Be careful not afraid.
71. Johnny Cakes are awesome.
72. They rinse, sanitize and reuse the bottles. Don't put your garbage in the bottle.
73. Avoid driving at night.
74. Little ants suck as well.
75. Always grab a bag of ice for the cooler.
76. Almost every tree or plant will stick you.
77. Wash your dishes before you leave. Ants.
78. Behave with respect. EVERYWHERE.
79. Remember what I said about 95% of the people. They're awesome.
80. Get ice cream bars from little village stores.
81. Bring your own frying pan.
82. When getting gas if you say fill it up. They FILL it. Seriously. To the brim.
83. A smile goes a long way
84. Hours may vary. Like the menu, just because the sign is out doesn't mean they're open.
85. There are no "good scorpions". Kill them. It's not dead until you see guts.
86. Sit quietly but be ready.
87. Your pictures of the scenery, the mountains, waterfalls and jungle, will never do them justice. Soak in the moment.
88. It is hard to keep your eye glasses clean.
89. Adjust your thoughts on public restrooms.
90. It's totally acceptable to shower four to five times a day.
91. Every time you shower feels as good as the first.
92. The world is the world, the world around. Sit around and chat with people.
93. Get the windshield insurance. Spend the $4 a day.
94. Drink more water.
95. Roadside cooler beverages are awesome. Watermelon, tamarind, pineapple, melon and others.
96. Belize is not an island.
97. Don't count on the guy in front of you having working brake lights.
98. Rent a vehicle. Drive, explore, stop, seek out.
99. Cool Spots are bars. Stop at them.
100. Fry Jacks ... Mmmmm. Fry Jacks...
101. If it feels like something is biting you, something is biting you.
102. Geckos love hanging bath towels , shirts, curtains, well any hanging cloth.
103. Ants still suck.
104. Ladies, be aware your foundation won't match the rest of your face after day 2 in the sun.
105. Enjoy the day. There is so much life and beauty everywhere. You just need to look around.
106. Proper footwear is a must. Sandals and flip-flops don't work for waterfalls and caves. Hiking shoes on the beach ain't right either.
107. Take the rough road and take time to get to the "off the major sights". It's always worth the rough drive.
108. Know what you want before you open the refrigerator door.
109. Freeze 1/2 full water bottles, use them in your cooler and top them off when your thirsty. Rotate them.
110. We/You/Me are loud. Really loud. Try and speak a little softer.
111. Flying ants suck also.
112. Pay attention to the road. A missed Crosswalk will ruin your day and your vehicle.
