volcanic tuff cone, also known as Koko Head, has a history as steep as its slopes. 🌋

Over 30,000 years old, it served as a training ground for the U.S. military during WWII, and the remnants of bunkers and a tramway can still be seen along the trail.

The challenging Koko Crater Railway Trail boasts 1,048 steps made from old railroad ties, leading to an exhilarating summit with breathtaking panoramic views of Hanauma Bay’s turquoise waters and the endless expanse of the Pacific Ocean. 🏝️

going through years of pictures from our expeditions I’ve noticed that our symbol of astronaut 👩‍🚀 was unintentionally replaced with a rubber duck 🤭

astronaut came to Icelandic otherworldly landscapes back in 2018 and later perfectly fit in Alaska glaciers, underwater ship wrecks of Hawaii and volcanic Kamchatka.. but joined the team back in 2019 and rubber ducks has followed since 🦆

there are so many similarities between Iceland and Alaska..

subarctic climate and glacial landscape, northern lights and the polar days, puffins and whales, volcanoes and indigenous cultures, and those stunning lupine fields you find in the summer

however, while lupines are native to Alaska, they were introduced to Iceland only in 20th century to prevent soil erosion and now is considered invasive species that has negative impact on the Iceland’s ecosystem .

one of our favorite winter activities is visiting home of dog musher Jim Lanier and his partner Anna Bondarenko, playing with their cutest whites and riding in majestic snow fields .

but most precious is learning about their life in friendly atmosphere with herbal tea and biscuits .

i am still surprised to learn that very often our trips are confused with stock images and people do not believe the visuals are actually the captures of our adventures .

first of all we are the camera people, and only through that and with that concept we do take people places to share the perspective and capture the experience .

so often we hear from visiting friends that they’d do anything on the island, but surf !

they have tried once in unfortunate circumstance of having a wrong person to teach + unsuitable conditions . and what is often missed in those lessons is that the best surfer on the spot is the one having the most fun .

but jokes aside, it is a deep spiritual connection with the ocean and the introduction must be slow and with individual approach .
