Apostle Islands || Wisconsin
Covering a total land area of 281 km2, the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore comprises 22 Apostle islands along with a 19 km coastline strip on the Bayfield Peninsula. All the islands in the group are acclaimed for their high red sandstone cliffs as well as for the numerous sea caves and arches that form elegant ice-structures during the winter season. Two of these islands can be seen from our cabin; Eagle, And Sand islands!

Apostle Islands Ice Caves

Chequamegon Bay Ice Caves are now open to walking tours.

These are tours to the Chequamegon Bay Ice Caves that are outside the National Park. These are not tours to the Meyers Beach Ice Caves that are inside the National Park. Meyers Beach has bigger and better ice caves but they will not be opening this year and have not opened since 2015

The Apostle Islands Made some more ice this past week. If we can get 2 more weeks of sub zero nights we might actually be able to make it out to Roman's Point this year.

Shut Down Notice: Due to ice conditions, today (Tuesday, January 18, 2022) is the last day of ferry service. Last trip to Madeline Island at 3pm and to Bayfield at 3:30pm. Thanks for a great season – we will see you in the spring!
