It’s been a while since I’ve posted! Sonoma is a fantastic family friendly getaway! We loved Sonoma Train Town. Even though Ez was scared of all of the rides he still had a great time. And Santi went on the roller coaster 6 times! Also loved the Sonoma overlook trail and the very family friendly Larson’s family winery. They had animals and corn hole. And lovely wine of course. Also love that place because you can bring in your own food!

Spotlight on the new Tunnel Tops playground in the Presidio! Amazing views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Great place to take visitors with young kids.

Played tourist today in SF for ez’s special day with mama. Saw a fun magic show on the pier and unfortunately spent $50 at the not so impressive aquarium at the bay. I’ll save up for for next time!

I swore I would never do resorts BUT changed my mind. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still going to stay at cabins in the Russian River, but every now and then….. here is why legoland is worth it and here are some tips if you decide to go:

Best for ages 5-10 IMO

Stay at the legoland hotel to get early access to the park (worth it no lines) and so you don’t have to worry about driving/parking

You need at least 2 full days to see/do everything in the park. I would even save a separate day just for the water park if that is your thing.

If you care about healthy snacks for your kids bring them with you.

The legoland gift shop does not mark up prices which is nice.

You could spend an entire day just hanging at the hotel (pool, playground, legos galore)

This place knows exactly what they are doing! The staff are friendly and helpful, everything felt easy, so many little touches like the dance music in the elevators or the hotel scavenger hunt went a long way!

Visited my friend Yelena in Salt Lake City who I met in high school on an outward bound type trip over the summer. We’ve been friends for 20+ years and this past weekend our kids were looking at millipedes through a microscope together - a fantastic museum!!!

The program Yelena and I went on in the 1990s was called Trailmark. I don’t think it is around anymore….but I credit them for giving me that first travel bug! ✈️🚗🚌🧳

Perfect 1-mile hike with kids around Silver Lake on top of big cottonwood canyon in Salt Lake City! Important to get there early to beat the crowds and heat!!

Just had an incredible visit to the Yuba River and Grass Valley! Here are my top 3 recommendations for a weekend getaway:

1. Stop for brunch. Get there early!

2. The Oregon Creek Day Use Area is a perfect swimming spot for kids.
Walk down the path a bit for more secluded areas. Arrive by 10am for parking.

3. The one restaurant I wish we could have gone to but didn’t make it was Looks amazing!!!

I almost don’t want to give away this hidden gem in Troncones, Mexico. Los Raqueros is a perfect, quaint, affordable place to stay for families and your stay includes a lovely breakfast on the beach. I’ll post a sneak peak of Katie’s travel bucket soon!

COVID tip for flying: about 5% of passengers are masking these days in airports and on planes. I know MANY people that have recently gotten COVID after a flight even though they were masking.

If you are flying and want to avoid getting COVID or spreading it I recommend quarantining after you arrive for several days and then testing before you see vulnerable people.

Playing bocce ball and enjoying a delicious brunch by the water. This place is magical for kids. Corn hole, water tables, tons of room to run and food that is seriously good.

I am sharing this concoction that might (still tbd) have spared me from getting COVID after having lived in very close quarters with family members who were positive. Happy birthday to me from our COVID den. We decided to stop isolating Drew and all be in this together once more than one of us got it. So here we are. It feels so strange and surreal that we are knowingly spreading COVID to each other.

On my birthday I am feeling so thankful that we didn’t give it to my parents and I am feeling so lucky to have such supportive and loving family and friends in my life.

My dad and his girlfriend left their house so we can isolate here, my oldest friend sent us dinner last night, my mom and her boyfriend are patiently waiting until we can safely see them outdoors and masked hopefully before we fly back to CA, and countless friends, family, and colleagues have checked in on us. We are surrounded by love and that is the best birthday present I could ask for.

And last but not least, I’ve got Drew. Who is currently hacking up a lung and making me coffee to bring to me in bed.

Took the kids to the African American museum in Philadelphia. Their current art exhibit: Derrick Adams: Sanctuary, reimagines safe destinations for the Black American traveler during the mid-twentieth century. Highly recommend!
