Paul was rescuing this little guy the other day: it had flown into one of the bedrooms without us noticing. When a hummingbird is trapped, it becomes stressed and frantic in the unfamiliar territory and and often exhausts itself when trying to find a way out or it may knock itself out flying against glass panes repeatedly.

Hummingbirds do sometimes fly into the villa. Anywhere there is bright red or orange color — whether it is natural or artificial — is likely to attract their attention. Most of the time they realize they are somewhere odd and turn round and fly out of the house (sometimes backwards)

Out of all of the Costa Rica waterfalls we’ve visited, the Nauyaca Waterfalls is the most majestic. The water fall is approximately 10 kms inland from Playa Dominical and 16 kms from Villa Vista Azul

The Nauyaca Waterfalls consist of two falls: the upper waterfall plummets down from the height of 45 metres onto a rocky bed unsuitable for swimming, while the lower one, only 20 metres in height, forms a pleasant six-metre deep pool perfect for a refreshing dip.

Most people go for a short trek (a bit more than 1 h), but other options such as a ride on the back of a pick-up truck or horses are also available. For more info see http://nauyacawaterfallscostarica.com/

From May to June this year, we started developing the gardens around the house. It is a work-in-progress, but you can already see how some of the areas have developed and get a sense how the rest will develop.

The house is perched on a hill above Hatillo, with spectacular views of Playa Guapil to the south and Manuel Antonio National Park to the north. Although you are close to the village, the house feels absolutely secluded.

When you enter the house, you enter a large modern open plan living space with fully equipped kitchen and access to the guest bathroom. The front of the house can be opened to the patio and pool area. We have plenty of books and board games: feel free to make use of them. There is also a movable desk with a 4K monitor, which can be freely moved around the house.

On the left of the house is the master bedroom with tall glass windows providing spectacular views of the landscape to the front and rainforest scenery to the left. When lying in bed at night with the curtains open, you can gaze the stars and occasionally watch lightning over the sea. The master bathroom is connected to an ensuite bathroom with rain shower.

On the right of the house is the second bedroom with tall glass windows and king-sized double bed. The 3rd bedroom is ideal for children with a double bunk bed. Both bedrooms are connected by a Jack and Jill bathroom with a rain shower.

The property has a laundry room with a washing machine and tumble dryer that is accessible from the driveway.
