Namibia may not be known as a destination for lazy beach days but that doesn’t mean you won’t want to spend some time exploring these hauntingly beautiful shores.

Stretching 310 miles from the Angolan border to the north and the colonial town of Swakopmund to the south, Namibia’s coastline is a graveyard for over 1000 shipwrecks, hence the name the Skeleton Coast.

The allure of the Skeleton Coast is not only the striking contrast between the frothy waters of the Atlantic with the towering dunes in the backdrop, but it’s also the remoteness and the opportunity to experience a once-in-a-lifetime flightseeing trip to visit and photograph half-buried wrecks out in the middle of the desert.

The day I took this photo, I was so frustrated.

We were probably 8 hours into our day. It was getting late, getting cold, I was getting hungry. We pulled up to Skogafoss and there were *so* many people. For the most part everyone was standing back, trying to photograph the waterfall through the spray. And then this guy just casually walked into everyone's photo. 🫣

At the time, in my hangry frustration, I was mad. 😂 But once I sat down in front of my photos to cull through and make my edits, this one made the cut and has actually become one of my favorite shots from that first trip. It's now hanging on my wall as a canvas.

I don't know who the nameless tourist was, but ultimately he brought this shot together by providing scale to this truly majestic waterfall. Skogafoss is definitely one of my favorites and I'll always stop there on our Iceland trips.

Where is your most favorite seaside town? Do you have a few that make the list?

It’s nearly impossible to compile even a top ten list of the most beautiful seaside towns in Portugal.

Each bit of the coastline has a slightly different aesthetic, a variation on local cuisine, a favorite beer or wine but there are a few constants; the people are friendly and the views are spectacular.

If you’re only in Portugal for a short stay, seaside gems like Tavira will surely leave you with a taste for quintessential seaside life. Set against a rural country backdrop, the town offers up a beautiful Roman bridge, a medieval castle, charming town squares with cozy cafes and a slower pace of life.

And if it’s beautiful beaches you’re after, Costa Vincentina is a great alternative to the busier Algarve. Powdery white sand, quaint little bars and good music await.
