Wat Muang Chum

Wat Muang Chum, Bang Rachan district, about 11 km. from the city pillar shrine.

As the history records, we presume this temple was built in Ayutthaya period, the original name was Wat Kradang Nga, abandoned since Thai - Burmese War and the second fall of Ayutthaya. When the war ended, most people went back to their hometown and some people who lived near Wat Kradang Nga decided to built the new temple next to Wat kradang Nga, named "Wat Muang Chum".

This temple is one of the most popular attractions in my hometown, I highly recommend this temple to you. When you reach there, the first thing you should do is to pay your respect to the large golden seated buddha image on a lotus flower, named Phra Phuttha Sihing Mingmongkhon, can be seen from a far distance.

Walking up staircase which decorated with naga statues on both sides until you are on the lotus platform, then gild a gold leaf on the tip of the buddha image's finger and make a wish. After that, walk down stairs to the 2nd floor to see other buddha images in the room, then walk out of the room and look around, it offers you an incredible view.

Walking down to the ground to see the others such as nine headed naga statue formed of a great cobra, the tree deity wrapped with ribbons and other deities on both sides. Then you walk along the walkway to see three headed elephant statue.

In addition, the white and golden stupa opposite the large seated buddha image, inside the stupa enshrines the replica of the famous Buddha named Phra Phutta Chinnarat. The basement room under the stupa shows the story of karma, hell and heaven through many sculptures.

The next one is the ordination hall (Ubosot), enclosed by low white walls, enshrines a big buddha image named Luang Pho Khao.

The last buddha image is Luang Pho Dum, aged 400 years, enshrined in a large pavilion near the exit, the buddha's head was found under the ground of the temple compound.

After walking for a long time, I'm sure that you must be tired and thirsty. So you should take a 15 minute break to drink some water, coffee at a small shop in front of the temple.

Wat Kradang-nga Buppharam

This is an old temple in Ayutthaya period, about 7km from the town of Singburi, not far from wat Prachotikaram.

We believe that this temple was built by a great warrior of the King Mahathammarachathirat, the father of King Naresuan. He wanted to dedicate this temple to all warriors who died in the battles. Besides, their ashes are also kept here. Then he became a buddhist monk of this temple, named Luang Pho Ueng. Nowadays, his statue is enshrined in the temple compound.

The bell-shaped pagoda is considered to be the most complete stupa which still remains until today, comparing with other stupas in the same period. Nearby is the ordination hall that shows the beauty of the carved wooden door panels.

Just a short walk from the ordination hall to a small white vihara, walk inside to worship and admire the beautiful buddha image with red lips from Sukhothai period, the unique character of the buddha image makes it special and attracts lots of visitors every day.

Wat Yai

Wat Yai is located in Bang Rachan District, 1.5km from Wat Muang Chum, it takes about 25 mins from the town of Singburi.

The black buddha image stands on a high base near the temple walls which makes the temple remarkable, local people call it "Luang Pho Dum". And there are two black snake statues on the walls of the entrance, it looks like they are guarding the entrance.

In the old days, this temple was very famous, most people from all over the country always came here every month, because they had great faith in Luang Pho Boonchauy, who was the abbot and had the temple built.

With the intention of Luang Pho Boonchauy to help people in community, he decided to build the crematory but unfortunately he passed away before the project was completed. At that time, 70% of the construction was completed, Moreover, he had about 200,000 baht in debt (the construction debt) left behind.

Wimol Siripaiboon is a Thai novelist, most Thai people may not know her real name but if I mention about her pen name "Thommayanti" that sounds familiar. She respects to the abbot and has strong buddhist faith.

When she knew about the abbot's death, she wanted to deal with the temple's debt problem and construction project, she donated some money to the temple and discussed these matters with the temple committee to solve these problems.

I get some information from http://www.dhamma5minutes.com

The first thing you should do when you reach there is worshiping Luang Pho Boonchauy whose body is still preserved in a glass coffin. This temple isn't only a center of people's hearts but also the animal shelter. Today, it has about 80 dogs and some turtles, a nun and monks have taken care of them for over ten years.

If you want to help many animals in this temple, you can put your money in a donation box near the coffin of the late abbot, or give some food to poor animals. Even though the temple is facing a financial crisis because of COVID-19 pandemic, the current abbot doesn't want to place one more donation box outside because he doesn't want everyone to worry about this, so you can see only one donation box in this temple.

Wat Sawang Arom

This temple is located in the center of Singburi, just about 3km from the city pillar shrine, close to the intersection. It isn't far from other temples so you can combine a visit to Wat Sawang Arom and Wat Phranon Chaksi.

The temle was originally called "Wat Bangmon, and built in 1856. The highlight for visitors is the shadow puppets, which is a form of traditional Thai entertainment. In addition, it once used to be the center of making buddha images, and the technique was handed down from the Ban Chang Lo School in Thonburi era through the next generations.

When you walk through the entrance, you will see the two-story white building on your right. Inside of the building displays more than 300 shadow puppets, depicting characters from the Ramakien and other classical romances, kept in good condition and still used in performances. Its shadow puppets is considered to be the most complete shadow puppets (Nang Yai) in Thailand.

In recent years, the shadow puppetry hasn't been quite popular for new generations so the temple tries to preserve and promote the shadow puppetry by teaching for everyone who is interested in learning.

For those who want to watch the show, you should call for a reservation at least a week in advance.

The monument of eleven warriors of Bang Rachan Camp and museum.

Singh Buri is a small province with such a long history, absolutely known widely by most of thai people, as a group of villagers fought bravely against the Burmese invaders, so their legendary heroism was recorded as a compulsory lesson for new generations in Thai history books.

Bang Rachan was a small village north-west of Ayutthaya. Nowadays, It’s located in Khai Bang Rachan District of Singburi province, opposite to Bang Rachan Retro Market.

The story of Bang Rachan village took place in 1765 during the reign of King Ekkathat of Ayutthaya, in that period of time, Burmese troops invaded Ayutthaya and surrounding areas. They killed a lot of Thai people cruelly.

Consequently, Bangrachan villagers gathered themselves to protect the village and fought against the Burmese invaders. When thai people in surrounding areas heard about this news. They came to join in the troops and later established a fort at Pho Kao Ton Temple, situated next to Bangrachan Retro Market at present days, where one of the most famous monks, Pra Arjarn Thammachote, whom thai people believed in his sacred magical power from a temple in Suphanburi, was invited to stay there as the center of hearts to encourage all warriors.

Bang Rachan Villagers could endure Burmese’s attacks for 8 times within five months before regrettably being defeated due to their shortage of weapons.

😘 I almost forgot to say Thank you the special one,Tong Twt, who helps me to correct this English article.

Bang Rachan Retro Market

Opening your heart and follow me to explore my hometown. Today I will take you to visit Bangrachan Retro Market, this is one of my favourite places. I go there many times a year because of its unique.

Bang Rachan Retro Market is one of the best retro markets in Thailand, simulated the most realistic atmosphere of Ayutthaya period.

This market opens at 8.00am. - 5.00 pm. on Saturday, Sunday. And public holidays continue into Saturday or Sunday.

Don't worry about a parking space, there is a large car park for hundreds of cars, free of charge.

The market is situated in the temple compound covered by big trees. When you get there, the first thing you will see is the wooden wall in front of the temple and the market that can be seen in a long distance.

When you walk through the entrance, the first thing which fascinates you is local people in traditional Thai clothes, they will greet you with smiles. And you're also surprised when you see a lot of traditional Thai desserts (Khanom Thai) around you.

You may think of mango with sticky rice or some desserts that you can find everywhere in my country but if you come here ,you will change your mind because they are different from other desserts you have ever seen before. Don't forget to try them and tell me how it tests.

You will not only see Thai desserts but also local products, traditional Thai food, Thai amulets (a small buddha image) etc.

I almost forgot to tell you one thing. Don't forget to watch the show, Historic Thai Show performed by local people. The show is performed 2 times a day (11.00 am. and 3.00 pm.) approximately 45-60 minutes in duration. You can take photos with a group of actors and actresses after the show finishes.
