Wat Yuat
Wat Yuat
Wat Yuat is situated in Ton Pho Sub-District, 3 km from the city pillar shrine, toward Bangrachan District, you will see the temple on your left.
Wat Yuat or another name is the temple of two brother buddha images. As the historical record, the characteristics of the buddha images and the ruined stupa, we believe that the temple was an ancient temple from the beginning of Rattanakosin period, and once used to be one of the historical battle areas which was called Kai Noi during Ayutthaya Period when Burmese troops invaded Bangrachan Village.
The temple was renovated by local people and Dr. Sommai Thongprasert, whom Thai people called "magic doctor".
The two buddha images in a small vihara is one of the most sacred buddha images in Singburi, both of them are called Luang Pho Song Phi Nong which means two brothers.
Walking out to the back of the vihara to worship the happy buddha image and then walk to see mural paintings on the interior walls in the ordination hall.
Wat Kradang-nga Buppharam
Wat Kradang-nga Buppharam
This is an old temple in Ayutthaya period, about 7km from the town of Singburi, not far from wat Prachotikaram.
We believe that this temple was built by a great warrior of the King Mahathammarachathirat, the father of King Naresuan. He wanted to dedicate this temple to all warriors who died in the battles. Besides, their ashes are also kept here. Then he became a buddhist monk of this temple, named Luang Pho Ueng. Nowadays, his statue is enshrined in the temple compound.
The bell-shaped pagoda is considered to be the most complete stupa which still remains until today, comparing with other stupas in the same period. Nearby is the ordination hall that shows the beauty of the carved wooden door panels.
Just a short walk from the ordination hall to a small white vihara, walk inside to worship and admire the beautiful buddha image with red lips from Sukhothai period, the unique character of the buddha image makes it special and attracts lots of visitors every day.
Wat Sawang Arom
Wat Sawang Arom
This temple is located in the center of Singburi, just about 3km from the city pillar shrine, close to the intersection. It isn't far from other temples so you can combine a visit to Wat Sawang Arom and Wat Phranon Chaksi.
The temle was originally called "Wat Bangmon, and built in 1856. The highlight for visitors is the shadow puppets, which is a form of traditional Thai entertainment. In addition, it once used to be the center of making buddha images, and the technique was handed down from the Ban Chang Lo School in Thonburi era through the next generations.
When you walk through the entrance, you will see the two-story white building on your right. Inside of the building displays more than 300 shadow puppets, depicting characters from the Ramakien and other classical romances, kept in good condition and still used in performances. Its shadow puppets is considered to be the most complete shadow puppets (Nang Yai) in Thailand.
In recent years, the shadow puppetry hasn't been quite popular for new generations so the temple tries to preserve and promote the shadow puppetry by teaching for everyone who is interested in learning.
For those who want to watch the show, you should call for a reservation at least a week in advance.
