“The Forbidden Forest looked as though it had been enchanted, each tree smattered with silver.” - J.K. Rowling

As children, we had always wondered what it would feel like wandering into the Forbidden Forest or anything of that sort. We could finally live our childhood dream as adults on the 4th of June 2022, on our way from Lingtham to Zuluk. As our car drove through dense clouds, we could sense our hearts giving a funny leap every now and then. That is exactly what happens when the vehicle constantly maintains a 2-inch distance between heaven on earth figuratively, and actual heaven, literally. Even collective efforts of A. R. Rahman and Amit Trivedi failed to keep us calm.

After a sharp right turn, our guide and driver for the day, Gopal Pradhan ji stated, “Thoda yahaan ruk keh ghum lijiye” (Halt for some time here and see this place). We found ourselves in the middle of a dense pine forest, totally covered in a thick layer of clouds. ‘Eco Nature Park’ was the name of this place, although we renamed it instantly to The Forbidden Forest. I don’t know which was more enigmatic, the forest that seemed to have no end or the clouds that didn’t allow us to see beyond five metres. You know it is cold when even Jyotirmoy pulls out a jacket. We headed into the forest, our hearts racing a bit more with every step.

With little visibility and questionable trekking experience, we set foot carefully to make sure we didn’t tumble down the path, made moist due to prior downpour. Enigmatic as they are, these kinds of places serve another important purpose – providing perfect background for clicking display pictures, that one picture we’ll end up using in every social networking platform. Having collected a gallery full of pictures and shooting vlogs for Travel With Bawallianz YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/channel/UCdFfoaWW__0bSTtWuoedbVw), we lost ourselves completely in nature. Having spent nearly an hour in this place, we set out for Zuluk. That will be another story for another time.

Tip from Bawallianz – Remember to wear trekking boots while visiting this place any time of year. Also, carry a poncho or raincoat because umbrellas don’t really help when moist clouds conspire to get you wet.
