Two Lincolnshire beaches have been ranked among the best in England to visit this summer with one taking the very top spot. Car rental company SIXT collated a list of the top 300 beaches in England from TripAdvisor and ranked them based on several factors.

Mablethorpe Beach was voted as the number one beach to visit this summer and Skegness Beach came in sixth. The rankings were based on water quality, visitor rating, the number of cafes and car parks within 400m (5-minute walking distance), and whether there's a lifeguard and onsite toilet.

Beaches in Cromer, Whitley, Shanklin and Filey were all beaten by the small Lincolnshire seaside town of Mablethorpe which boasts 19 nearby cafes and 7 nearby car parks. SIXT's description of Mablethorpe Beach reads: "Boasting miles of golden sand and a Blue Flag award, the picturesque Mablethorpe Town Beach in Lincolnshire ranks top of our list of England’s best beaches

A linchpin of the resort since 1952, the Mablethorpe Sand Train runs along Mablethorpe North Beach’s golden sands.

Such is the size of the beach that you may even use the train as transport if you’re staying around the Golden Sands Holiday Park or want to get from the centre of the resort to the Seal Sanctuary.

Dogs are welcome on board, and the entire round trip from the Central Beach will take about 20 minutes and cost £2 per passenger, with children under two travelling for free.
