Hop on a BMTC bus on August 15 aka Independence Day and enjoy a free ride because India celebrates 75 years of independence and BMTC also marks 25 years. Yay! As part of this massive celebration, commuters can enjoy a free bus ride from any two destinations in the city. This free service covers all ordinary, AC and special Volvo buses that are run by the BMTC. That’s not all, BMTC will add 300 electric buses to the fleet and will run between far distanced routes of Bengaluru. And the BMTC will also present medals to the drivers who have not been involved in any accidents during their service. Isn’t this amazing news?

After four whole years since the announcement, the first phase of the eagerly awaited renovation of the Bengaluru-Mysuru national highway will be completed in September, but the Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said that the 61km-stretch between Mysuru and Nidaghatta (near Maddur) is likely to be completed by early September. Meanwhile, the 56.2 km stretch between Nidagatta and Bengaluru is likely to be opened to the public by October 20 this year. The Union minister added that the six main carriageways in the 10-lane Mysuru-Bengaluru expressway will be ready for public use by the end of October this year, barring a few design tweaks and the addition of entry and exit roads from major towns along the way. He also stated that once the expressway is ready, travel time between the two cities will reduce from three hours to about 90 minutes.
