Portugal Job Seeker Visa

Don’t Forget To Slide Left..Happy Sunday Guys!

The job seeker visa entitles its holder to enter and remain only in Portugal for the purpose of looking for job; authorizes him/her to carry out a subordinated work activity, until the visa expires or until the residence permit is granted.

This visa is granted for a period of 120 days, renewable for another 60 days and allows only one entry into Portugal.

The issuance of this visa supposes the attribution of a date of scheduling in the competent services, within the period of validity of 120 days of the visa, and it allows the applicant, after the formalization of the employment contract throughout that period, the right to apply for a residence permit. To do so, you must fulfil the general conditions for granting a temporary residence permit, under the terms of article 77 of the Law.

Once the maximum validity limit of the visa for looking for work has expired, without an employment relationship having been established nor the process of requesting the granting of a residence permit having begun, the visa holder must leave the country.

In these situations, you can only re-apply for a new visa application for this purpose, one year after the expiry of the previous visa’s validity.

The request for a visa extension by a job seeker visa holder must be accompanied by proof of registration with the IEFP, I.P., and a declaration by the applicant indicating that the conditions of the planned stay are maintained, which will be assessed considering the reasons that justified its issuance.

You can prove your funds with at least one of the following:

*proof of a Canadian bank account in your name, if you’ve transferred money to Canada

* a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) from a participating Canadian financial institution

* proof of a student or education loan from a bank
your bank statements for the past 4 months

*a bank draft that can be converted to Canadian dollars
proof you paid tuition and housing fees

*a letter from the person or school giving you money, or
proof of funding paid from within Canada, if you have a scholarship or are in a Canadian-funded educational program

[READ] Foreign nationals who are in Canada as visitors and who receive a valid job offer will continue to be able to apply for and receive a work permit without having to leave the country. Visitors applying under this public policy who held a work permit within the last 12 months will also continue to be able to request interim work authorization to begin working for their new employer more quickly.

Prior to this temporary policy change, those applying to work in Canada would typically need to apply for their initial work permit before they came to Canada. If they were already in Canada with visitor status when they were approved for a work permit, they would need to leave Canada to be issued their work permit. With this policy in place, leaving Canada isn’t necessary.

To be eligible to apply, an applicant looking to benefit from this temporary public policy must

have valid status in Canada as a visitor on the day they apply
*have a job offer that is supported by a labour market impact assessment (LMIA) or an LMIA-exempt offer of employment
submit an application for an employer-specific work permit no later than February 28, 2025
*meet all other standard admissibility criteria

Applicants who currently have visitor status but who have held a valid work permit in the past 12 months can follow special instructions to get interim work authorization to start working for their new employer before their work permit application is finalized.
