Love is in the air, Elk love that is ❤️

“Hey girl, hey!”

While bull elk are incredibly handsome and striking with their 4-foot antlers, the last thing you want is for one to actually strike you…that would be bad, really bad.

This time of year, bull elk are venturing into Grand Canyon Village to make the acquaintance of the ladies—elk ladies, or cows, that is. This is a heated time of year and bull elk can be very aggressive.

With powerful, heavy antlers (40lbs for the set) and a stout body (getting over 1000lbs), elk put up a good fight. This is why it is severely important that you leave them alone and provide PLENTY of space (over 100 feet and ideally, more!).

Making contact with just one of the 12 points on this boy’s rack would spell disaster. We shouldn’t have to remind you, but these animals are wild. They are not tamed, even though they spend a lot of time around people. The Rut is one of the most dangerous times of year for human/elk interactions. Please heed our warning. Keep wildlife wild and keep yourself intact. -AR
