DHS announces extension of REAL ID enforcement deadline
In a welcome development, yesterday the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that it is extending the REAL ID full enforcement date by 19 months, from October 1, 2021 to May 3, 2023, due to circumstances resulting from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. According to the department, “The pandemic has significantly impacted states’ ability to issue REAL ID-compliant driver’s licenses and identification cards, with many driver’s licensing agencies still operating at limited capacity.” ASTA welcomes this extension, as full enforcement starting in October would have presented yet another barrier to the travel industry’s restart, on top of the many we already face due to COVID.

We have all experienced many losses this year, whether it be physical, emotional, financial or a combo of them all.
