Brits on Bikes Adventure #4: Touring and Golfing in Northern Japan

The Brits, temporarily off bikes, but very much in action! In the middle, proud Londoner and winner of the April Jarman charity golf event, Bill Smith. On the left proud Yorkshireman and headline sponsor of the event, Rob Russell in his capacity as founder of Coach Tokyo. And on the right Brit-on-Bike-in-spirit, Ruth Jarman who makes it all possible. Thank you to everyone who came and helped raise money and support for the unrelenting and incredibly valuable work of Mental Health NPO TELL. The Brits are back on 2 wheels for a new adventure. This time we head north through 11 prefectures. 1,700km in total with stops for golfing, culinary and other delights in Gunma, Niigata, Akita, Aomori, Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima. Fasten your seatbelts!

A week after landing back in Tokyo, the Britis on Bikes + 1 team are reluctantly settling back into a routine. The last three weeks have been the happiest of times. A huge thank you to everyone who followed the trip. It wouldn't have been the same without you!

These two pictures represent all the good things in (my) life! A good swing with a full follow through which resulted in the ball on the green and close to the hole. Blues skies, blue sea, wild clouds and palm trees. And the best Bonito (katsuo) lunch ever served (to me at any rate) in a clubhouse. It all adds up to a memorable day out at Tosa Country Club.

A challenging mountain course on a VERY hot day! I love these mountain curses! Nothing is flat. You're always launching the ball up or down and if you get it right it can fly for miles!

While the bikes took a well earned rest we enjoyed sitting on the hotel balcony watching the single carriage train chug along the Kochi coast. At night it's possible to imagine it's the 'nekko' bus from the Ghibli animation Totoro

Morning view from the hotel balcony. We have joined up with four others who flew or drove here yesterday. All on the same floor and the same side of the hotel. Just a short ride today to the first golf venue. Feeling very excited! Watch this space!
