Beautiful places you need to visit in Fars Province. This region of Iran is probably the most famous, because of Persepolis, located a few km away from Shiraz. But, Fars Province is packed with great surprises.

Fars Province is the original homeland of the Persian people.

Fars is the Arabic adaptation of the ancient word Pars, the name of the former region of Persis (or Persia). It’s one of the 31 provinces of Iran and the fourth with the highest population (4.4 million people). It was once the center of the Persian Empire, and it’s no coincidence that the language spoken today in Iran is called Farsi. The ancient Persians established here around the 10th century BC and founded the great Achaemenid Empire, that was followed by the Seleucid Empire, then the Parthian Empire and, finally, the Sassanid Empire.

In Fars you’ll visit two of the most important ancient capital cities of Persia, Pasargadae and Persepolis. Its current capital city, Shiraz, is one of the most exciting cities in the country, with enough tourist attractions to keep you busy for days.

Fars has four UNESCO World Heritage Sites, two of them collective sites: Persepolis, The Persian Garden, Pasargadae, and the Sassanid Archaeological Landscape of Fars Region.

A Tribute to Maestro Mohammad Reza Shajarian

Where words fail, music speaks.

Today, I would like to share the story of Mohammad-Reza Shajarian, who is considered the most influential singer of Persian classical music in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
Music is an expressive language of every culture. It often tells a story, expresses emotions, or share ideas with society. For example, a tribe would use music to tell a story, teach a lesson, or celebrate a successful hunt.

As a child, Shajarian received Quran recitation lessons from his father, who had mastered this art. At twelve, he was already known as a Koran reciter. At twelve, he also began learning the radif, a collection of traditional melodic figures that form the basis of Iranian classical music. As Felix Buxton once quoted, “good music often starts in underground culture and then comes to the surface.” It was the same for Shajarian.

At 12, he began studying the Persian classical repertoire known as the Radif without his father’s consent, in the basement, as researching and performing music was against his father’s religious beliefs. This may have been why he chose the stage name “Siavash Bidakani” in his early career as a singer, which did not last long, and soon he used his real name again. Shajarian started his singing career in 1959 at Radio Khorasan, rising to prominence in the 1960s with his distinct singing style. Since then, his career has included teaching at Tehran University, National Radio and television, researching Persian/Iranian music, and making numerous recordings. Golden Picasso Medal (1999) Nominated for Grammy award in Best World Music (2004, 2006) The UNESCO Mozart Medal(2006)

A leaked documentary clip where Shajarian can be heard saying, “I am Mohammad Reza Shajarian, son of Iran. My voice is part of Iran’s ancient culture, to remind the people of the world that we have had a culture of love, peace, and friendship.”

Shajarian has led the invention of many new Iranian classical music instruments, showcased in his 2012 concert tour with the Shahnaz Ensemble.

Rest in peace, Ostad.

Maybe sometimes people did not actually change. Maybe we just never knew who they really were.

I found it so funny how the people who know the least about Iran and iranian culture, have the most to say.

Let’s choose to be optimistic, it feels better.

Great view of Persian Gulf.
Where the Iranian geology stands out.

The Persian Gulf is a mediterranean sea in Western Asia. The body of water is an extension of the Indian Ocean located between Iran and the Arabian Peninsula. It is connected to the Gulf of Oman in the east by the Strait of Hormuz.

The Persian Gulf is home to many islands such as Bahrain, an Arab state. Geographically, the biggest island in the Persian Gulf is Qeshm island, belonging to Iran and located in the Strait of Hormuz.
The smaller islands or dots that you found in the picture are countries such as UAE, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain.

Yazd is a small city in the southern desert of Iran. It’s old and charming and within the walls of the old city it is a journey back in time. It is rightly popular among travellers and even though there are a variety of things to do in Yazd it is also a great place to take it easy.

WHY VISIT YAZD?

Yazd is quite different from other places of Iran. The laid back atmosphere and the fact that it does not feel like a city. The traffic is not as crazy, streets are less crowded and even in the bazaar it is relatively quiet.

One of favourite things to do in Yazd was simply wandering around the winding lanes of the old town. Every time you discover something new. A hidden mosque, a shrine, a wind tower, an ancient water storage dome or a traditional zurkhaneh.

Yazd is a city full of history. Despite its remote location in the desert and the harsh climate, Yazd claims to be one of the oldest continously inhabited cities in the world. Whether the claim is true or not it certainly was an important town on the ancient Silk road.

Thursday appointment
20-year-old iranian filmmaker wins award for powerful 1-minute film about marriage.

You may not be able to understand their exact words, but the gestures and subtitles help to convey the beautiful message of this short award-winning film made by 20-year-old Iranian filmmaker Syed Mohammad Reza Kheradmand.
The film, called Thursday Appointment, recently won an award at the Luxor Film Festival.

The powerful short movie depicts an older married couple reciting the Poem of Hafez to one another in the car, when they stop at a red light and notice a couple fighting loudly with their young daughter in the back seat.

The older couple make a gesture that says a lot about their own marriage, and about how married love can help reconcile and restore others around us.

I was looking at the photos for today’s post, and as soon as I saw this photo, I got goosebumps remembering that fantastic trip in 2015 with my dutch boys to Iran. I got a bit emotional and felt the joy of that trip. So I decided to share this with you.
This is an actual photo. This is not for commercial, not a professional photo; this is the real thing.
I am sure I can not find a better picture to show you a little bit of the experience of being in Iran. I think experiences are undefinable and very personal, and that’s the power of them. I chose to promote adventure holidays to support the experience of being In Iran for everyone. Iran is a multi-ethnic nation with different ethnic groups, including Persians, Kurds, Lurs, Arabs, Baluchs, Turkmen, Azeri, Mazandaranis, Gilaks, Talysh, and Tats. The country enjoys a mix of cultures borrowed from far and wide. Due to many paradoxical turns that we have had in our long history, we, Iranian, had to form a unique culture of hospitality towards strangers to live in one land together.

This photo was taken about 2 or 3 a.m. under sio se pol ( 33 bridges) in Isfahan, and we had just arrived from a road trip from Tehran. It was Bob, Maurice, Rud, Soheil and me. It was cold, and suddenly the family’s father noticed they were foreigners and visiting Isfahan for the first time. He did what he would not do to us as an Iranian. He treated my friends as their dearest guests and honored them by inviting them to come and sit with his family circle to share the heath and warmth, to feel safe and feel one. And this is one of the principles of Iranian culture. It is only normal to make visitors feel at home, and any less than that is insensitive and blunt!
I hope soon we will be able to share more of each other’s culture, to be able to understand and respect each other better.

If you are still with me and reading this, thank you and if you agree with me, help me share the post with your people and allow us to be heard.
Namaste,
Hussein

Wandering souls at the Lut desert, Iran.
There is full of empty, yet you cannot find a place for yours. There is no life, but something is beating, and you must hear it.
The Lut Desert, or Dasht-e-Lut, is located in the southeast of the country. It is the world's 34th-largest desert and was included on UNESCO's World Heritage List.
In the Persian language, 'Lut' refers to bare land without water and devoid of vegetation. The property is situated in an interior basin surrounded by mountains, so it has a rain shadow and high temperatures. These areas consist of active dunes, some reaching heights of 475 m, and are amongst the most extraordinary dunes in the world. The best time to have an incredible journey to the Lut Desert is in Spring (between April to May) and Autumn.

Hadi has been a founder of IRAN Venture Tracks since 2016 and is passionate about adventure mountain biking. He has performed more than 250 visits to different domestic destinations. Despite challenges, the pleasure of biking on long distances pushes him to cross new frontiers. Very proud to have him on the team.
