Nuwaragala Mountain belongs to Mahaoya Divisional Secretariat Division of Ampara District in the Eastern Province. Nuwaragala is geographically significant as a remnant mountain (more than 300 meters high after erosion) belonging to the Galoya mountain range, which lies in half of Sri Lanka's plains (between 30-300 meters above sea level). The height is 658 meters. This area is associated with the indigenous people of Sri Lanka. A person who traveled through Rambakan Oya valley through Pollebadda tribal village of Mahaoya Divisional Secretariat of Ampara district can reach Nuwaragala which is a wonder of nature as well as a wonder of nature while watching the wonder of ancient royal children. At the top of the mountain, you can see Pettigala Mountain, Savula Hela, Atbedda, Valas Kanda, and Galoya mountains. Borupola Lake, Rukam Lake, Unnichchiya Lake, Weligahakandia Lake, Nuwaragala Thanna Lake and Rambakan Oya Reservoir can be clearly seen. It extends to the east coast of Sri Lanka. If you camp, you can clearly see the sunrise. Ruins of dilapidated tank embankments and settlements were scattered throughout. The ruins of a large city can be seen on top of the rock called Nuwaragala. This city must have been the administrative center at that time.
Nuwaragala, which was the kingdom of King Dutugemunu's brother Saddhatissa, can still see the ruins of an old palace and a stone pool built on top of the hill. It is believed that King Saddhatissa Dutugemunu, who was hiding from his brother, lived in Nuwaragala until his death.
30 April 2006 According to Ellawala Medhananda Thero, the ruins are of a great Buddhist monastery built by King Lanjatissa (119-109 BC), son of King Saddhatissa. A stony path nearly 20 feet wide leads to the top of the hill and into a cave with large dripstones that can comfortably accommodate nearly 150 people. The cave was separated by brick walls and had a plastered and decorated interior, but the walls and interior plaster are in ruins today. Further up is a pond, today a perpetual water source for wildlife, but originally built to feed hundreds of meditating Rahat monks. As a testimony to the prosperity of the monastery in the first century BC, the ruins of the monastery are spread in and around Nuwaragala.
Today nuwaragala is very famous among local and foreign tourists for touring and camping.

නුවරගල කන්ද නැගෙනහිර පළාතේ අම්පාර දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ මහඔය ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කොට්ඨාශයට අයත් වේ. ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ තැනිතලා ප්‍රදේශයෙන් අඩක් (මුහුදු මට්ටමේ සිට මීටර් 30-300 අතර ප්‍රදේශයක) පිහිටා ඇති ගල්ඔය කඳු වැටියට අයත් ශේෂ කන්දක් (ඛාදනය වීමෙන් පසු මීටර් 300 කට වඩා උස) ලෙස නුවරගල භූගෝලීය වශයෙන් වැදගත් වේ. උස මීටර් 658 කි. මෙම ප්‍රදේශය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ආදිවාසීන් හා බැඳී පවතී. අම්පාර දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ මහඔය ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කොට්ඨාශයේ පොල්ලේබැද්ද ආදිවාසී ගම්මානය හරහා රඹකැන් ඔය නිම්නය හරහා ගමන් කළ අයෙකුට ඉපැරණි රාජකීය දරුවන්ගේ අසිරිය නරඹමින් සොබා දහමේ විස්මයක් මෙන්ම සොබා දහමේ විස්මයක් වූ නුවරගලට ළඟා විය හැකිය. කඳු මුදුනේ පෙට්ටිගල කන්ද, සැවුල හෙළ, ඇත්බැද්ද, වලස් කන්ද, ගල්ඔය කඳු දැකිය හැකිය. බොරුපොළ වැව, රුකම් වැව, උන්නිච්චිය වැව, වැලිගහකණ්ඩිය වැව, නුවරගල තැන්න වැව සහ රඹකැන් ඔය ජලාශය පැහැදිලිව දැකගත හැකිය. එය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ නැගෙනහිර වෙරළ තීරය දක්වා විහිදේ. ඔබ කඳවුරු බැඳගෙන ගියහොත් ඔබට හිරු උදාව පැහැදිලිව දැකගත හැකිය. නටබුන් වූ වැව් අමුණුවල සහ ජනාවාසවල නටබුන් පුරා විසිරී තිබුණි. නුවරගල නම් පර්වතය මුදුනේ විශාල නගරයක නටබුන් දක්නට ලැබේ. මේ නගරය එකල පරිපාලන මධ්‍යස්ථානය විය යුතුය.
දුටුගැමුණු රජුගේ සොහොයුරු සද්ධාතිස්ස රාජධානිය වූ නුවරගල තවමත් පැරණි මාලිගාවක නටඹුන් සහ කන්ද මුදුනේ ඉදිකරන ලද ගල් තටාකයක නටඹුන් දැක ගත හැක . තම සොහොයුරාගෙන් සැඟවී සිටි සද්ධාතිස්ස දුටුගැමුණු රජු මිය යන තුරුම නුවරගල ජීවත් වූ බව විශ්වාස කෙරේ.
2006 අප්‍රේල් 30 එල්ලාවල මේධානන්ද හිමියන් පවසන පරිදි නටබුන් ඇත්තේ සද්ධාතිස්ස රජුගේ පුත් ලංජතිස්ස රජු (ක්‍රි.පූ. 119-109) විසින් කරවන ලද මහා බෞද්ධ ආරාමයක ය. අඩි 20කට ආසන්න පළලකින් යුත් ගල් සහිත මාර්ගයක් කඳු මුදුනට සහ 150 කට ආසන්න පිරිසකට සුවපහසු ලෙස නවාතැන් ගත හැකි විශාල කටාරම් සහිත ගුහාවකට ගමන් කරයි. මෙම ගුහාව ගඩොල් බිත්තිවලින් වෙන් කර ඇති අතර කපරාරු කර අලංකාර කරන ලද අභ්‍යන්තරයකින් යුක්ත වූ නමුත් බිත්ති සහ ඇතුළත බදාම අද නටබුන් වී ඇත. තව දුරටත් ඉහළට යනු පොකුණකි, එය අද වනයේ ජීවීන්ගේ සදාකාලික ජල මූලාශ්‍රයක් වන නමුත් එය මුලින් ඉදිකර ඇත්තේ භාවනාවේ යෙදී සිටි රහත් භික්‍ෂූන් සිය ගණනක් පෝෂණය කිරීම සඳහා ය. ක්‍රිස්තු පූර්ව පළමු සියවසේදී ආරාමයේ සෞභාග්‍යයට සාක්ෂියක් ලෙස ආරාමයේ නටබුන් නුවරගල හා ඒ අවට පැතිරී ඇත.
