I just read a news article about a U. S. warship sinking a Houthi vessel in the Red Sea. Unaware of what a Houthi is, I asked Siri.

Apparently, our military sank a ship captained by Darius Rucker. I had no idea that he was a boat captain.

I wonder why they were so mad at him. The last album was really good!

Willis is a talented poet that consistently creates excellent stories, songs for us to enjoy. Her voice is one that far too many people have never heard. Willis and her husband, Bruce Robison, have also written songs you may have assumed were written by the singer that made them famous. Hit songs like, “Traveling Soldier” and “Angry All the Time” were penned by Willis and Robison but most popularly performed by The Chicks and Macgraw & Hill.

Willis’ cover of The Kendalls’ “Heavens just a Sin Away” is pure gold as far as I’m concerned.

I’m about to watch 45’s announcement speech. For those that think they know me, that may come as a surprise. For those that do not know me, let’s just say, I’m not a fan of The Don.

I missed the original airing of Trump’s announcement, so I dug it up on YouTube. After I watch 45, I plan to watch Pence’s interview with Jake Tapper, filmed earlier this evening. That should be exciting. Good old Mike “Mr Excitable” Pence just before bedtime 🥱. Yes, I’m a glutton for punishment. At the same time, I refuse to be an uninformed voter.

Please allow me to opine: We are where we are, as a nation, as a result, of a two-party dominated system. A system that seems to have a particular disdain for term-limited posts. To be honest, I can’t recall the last time I heard a politician, any politician, red, blue, or otherwise, speak publicly or seriously about term limits.

Aren’t we deserving of something new? Ideas that actually work? Ideas that don’t favor, p**s off, starve, or impoverish half the country? Ideas that won’t continue polluting our planet?

Who are those people - the ones with those ideas? Where are the candidates that speak publicly and seriously about term limits?

Hidden Gem

I arrived late last night/early this morning. I managed to get my camper parked in self-induced “Ninja Mode”- The leveling and the sewer connections could wait until the morning.

I already miss my new friends from Trinidad - Matt and Jasmine, and several of the other volunteers and staff members that I got to know. You know who you are!

DAY ONE

Coffee with sausage, eggs, and cheese taquitos in the morning. Walked outside...into a new world 🙂. It was pitch dark when I got here. I truly have no idea where I am. It’s perfect.

Yesterday, I arrived at Trinidad Lake State Park to serve as Camp Host. I’m required to quarantine for 14 days due to Covid-19 concerns and I’m more than happy to comply in this paradise 😉. Meanwhile, I’ll share my observations and experiences with you as they come to me.

6/9/2020 - I usually keep my blinds closed because I don’t like people looking through my windows. I’m weird like that. The sites hear are very well spaced and they are situated in a fashion that allows me to open my blinds and subsequently, my windows. The fresh air and sunlight is invigorating. It’s cloudy but the air is a perfect 70° outside. No need for A/C or the heater. My rain-sensing roof fan is doing it’s thing and keeping a close eye out for any signs of rain. 😉

I was just telling my lifelong friend, Heidi, a beautiful self-described tomboy/cat-lady, that I hear birdsongs not native to Texas sifting through the screens of my camper.

I like not knowing which birds are singing the songs I’m hearing on nature’s playlist because it brings new music into my life. Back in South Texas, I can name almost all of the birds just by hearing them, kinda like how I can name almost every George Strait song before he even opens his mouth. This is a perfect setup for discovery.

I plan to venture out later but I have to be careful not to be around other people. I don’t want to accidentally extend the quarantine because I’m anxious to start helping here at the park and I will welcome having the freedom of movement again 😷. I’m sure I will end up driving around in my truck to learn the lay of the land. I’ll be back later for an edit. Cya!

My first review is about to go down, y’all!

I recently spent 7 days in Quanah, Texas at Ole Town Cotton Gin RV Park (OTCG). That’s a mouthful!

First impression:
After driving through Texas thunderstorms for nearly four hours I was delighted to finally land ANYwhere!

OTCG was a sight for sore eyes. It’s very well manicured and has large sites that are clearly numbered with large yellow hi-viz cones. As I drove into the property, I could tell they had some longtime residents. Sometimes, that is not a good thing. In this case, it gave me a little peace of mind because the residents had clean sites and mostly newer model RV’s. Many of them appeared to be blue-collar workers, my kind of people. The property was well-lit but the lights weren’t stadium bright or overbearing.

Inside the office I found a pleasant staff, a countertop cat that seemed to be the manager, and a simple selection of munchies and drinks.

Ambiance:
While the area was relatively peaceful, I could definitely hear highway hum and the occasional UP train rolling by in the near distance. I’m a former railroader so that didn’t bother me.

They have a really nice pool and a small /quaint event room.

Birds are everywhere! Grackels, ringed-neck dove, scissor-tails, etc. I’m a fan of wild birds.

Overall impression: I’d be more than happy to stay there again!
