World Wildlife Day is a time to celebrate the incredible creatures that share our planet, but it's also an opportunity to reflect on the serious risks they face. Sadly, many animals are losing their homes due to habitat destruction, pollution, and climate change. Some species are even on the brink of extinction.
This is where humans have a responsibility to step in and take action. We must work together to protect these animals and their habitats, so that they can continue to thrive for generations to come. Simple things like reducing our use of single-use plastics, supporting conservation efforts, and making sustainable choices can all make a big difference.
But it's not just about what we can do individually. We must also push for government policies that protect wildlife and their habitats. By speaking up and advocating for change, we can create a world where animals are valued and their homes are protected.
So on this World Wildlife Day, let's celebrate the beauty and diversity of the natural world, but let's also remember our responsibility to protect it.

From here, one can have a hawk's eye view of the majestic landscape, stretching out until the southern coast 😮 The vast expanse of green and blue, dotted with different shades of the same hues, is a sight to behold. The beauty of the lakes, the lushness of the forests and the golden hue of the paddy fields fill the heart with awe and admiration for nature's majestic wonders😍. The view from the Pilkington Point at an elevation of 4600 feet above sea level at the southeast edge of the poonagala mountain range overlooking the southern region of the island is breathtaking.
The Pilkington point, named after Sir George Pilkington the first managing director if poonagala valley plantation company in 1898, is often shrouded in mist, making it a mysterious and magical place to explore. During the day, you can feel the cool atmosphere, usually between 15°C and 17°C 🥶 which goes even lower at night, and the peace and tranquility of the mountain peak. Take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, the abundant birds, (if you are lucky enough) the mountain elephants of Sri Lanka and the starry night sky. You can simply drive to the peak from Bandarawela, Ella, Haputale or Koslanda to get an unforgettable experience of nature and the great outdoors.⛰️
We invite you to visit the Hindu temple nestled in the other edge of the mountain during your trip! Here, you will be able to immerse yourself in the beauty and serenity of the temple, and experience the warm hospitality of the local community. Nestled in the small mountain of Bandarawela city lies a beautiful, historic church built from rocks. This architectural wonder was built by the hands of local craftsman and has stood the test of time, remaining intact for beyond a century 😮
With a stunning design, it has become an iconic landmark for both locals and visitors alike. Its picturesque setting, surrounded by lush greenery and overlooking the cityscape and mountains around, makes it an awe-inspiring sight 🤩
This majestic "Church of the Ascension" aka Gal Palliya situated at Welimada Road, Bandarawela right next to the UC Stadium, is not only a reminder of the city’s rich culture and history but also a symbol of its enduring faith and spirit.
Rt. Rev. R.S. Copleston, the fifth Bishop of Colombo, proposed the idea of constructing a church in Bandarawela. Up until 1907, Holy Communion services were held at the Bandarawela courthouse by the Rev. W.J.P. Waltham (1855–1938), the vicar of St. Mark's Church, Badulla. He acquired a 2.5 acre parcel of land from the government and, at his own expense, constructed the "Walthamstove" cottage. He designated two spaces for a transient church that was dedicated in 1907. The Church's foundation was set in August 1908, and M/S Walker and Greig built the structure.
Only a portion of the Church was built and dedicated by the fifth Bishop of Colombo, Rt. Rev. Copleston, on September 29, 1909, the Feast of St. Michael and All Angels, due to a lack of funding.
Although he continued to live in Badulla, Rev. Waltham held a monthly service there. By 1911, the sanctuary had been enlarged and a small vestry had been constructed thanks to donations of furniture, altar necessities, and other essential materials.
The east end of the nave was further enlarged by 32 feet in 1931. A new altar was dedicated in 1936, and the sanctuary and vestry were as well.
Denzil Peiris gave the Lady Chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary to the church on January 6, 1938, as a memorial to his late father, Henry Joseph Peiris. Bishop Mark Carpenter-Garnier blessed the chapel on that day.
The "Waltham Tower" was constructed in 1952 in honor of Rev. W.J.P. Waltham, known as "The Great Apostle of Uva."

මුහුදු වෙරළ මත්තෙහි Beach Clubs කියන්නේ ලෝකය පුරා සංචාරකයන් අතරේ ජනප්රිය සංස්කෘතියක්. ඒත් විටෙක මීදුමෙන් වැහෙන, තවත් විටෙක අනන්තය තෙක් දර්ශණ වන, අයස්කාන්ත කඳු මුදුනකදී Beach Club සංකල්පයට සමාන අත්දැකීමක් කියන්නෙ සංචාරකයන්ට ඉතාම සුවිශේෂී දුර්ලභ අත්දැකීමක්. 👇

Ravana Pool Club හි ප්රධාන ව්යූහය සහ වහලය පරිපූර්ණ වශයෙන් උණ බටයෙන් නිර්මිත අතර වෙනස් ප්රමාණයන්ගෙන් යුත් උණ බම්බු භාවිතාව හේතුවෙන් මනා උස්පහත් වීම් වලින් හැඩ ගැන්වුනු නම්යශීලී ලාලිත්යවත් වහලයක් Ravana Pool Club එකට උරුම වී තිබෙනවා.
මේ විශ්මිත නිර්මාණයට අවශ්ය උණ බට සහ බම්බු ඉන්දුනීසියාවේ බාලී දූපත්හි සිට ගෙන්වා ඇති අතර උණ බම්බුවෙන් හැඩ වැඩ දමන ශිල්පීන්ද බාලී දූපත්හි සිටයි පැමිණ ඇත්තේ. නමුත් ශ්රී ලාංකේය කොන්ත්රාත්කරුවන් හා ශිල්පීන් ද හවුලේ මේ ව්යාපෘතියට සහභාගීකරවීමෙන් ඔවුන්ටද මේ උණ බම්බු ආශ්රිත නිර්මාණකරණයේ අභාශය ලබා දීමට Ravana Pool Club හි හිමිකාරිත්වය පියවර ගැනීම පැසසිය යුතු කරුණක්.
