🌿 Embracing a new chapter - earlier this year JFT transformed into a family-run venture. Having played a key role behind the scenes since the project’s inception even before the birth of Jersey Fine Tea, we bring a renewed energy and passion for all things Tea with an added infusion of biodiversity conservation. Exciting plans ahead so follow our journey. 🌱🍃

One of our more regular visitors, appearing every so often. The Jersey toad, known locally as ‘Crapaud’ happens to also be the affectionate name given to us locals! Unique in the Channel Islands, these friendly creatures can be seen throughout the year. Fascinating how this one blended with the granite behind.

Here in Jersey, it’s almost time for the Branchage (Lé Branquage in Jèrriais/Jersey Norman French) at this time of year landowners are required to cut back any over-hanging vegetation on roads and paths, carefully and sensitively. We planted our hedges in 2018 and with lots of love, they are already beautifully established and a diverse range of local wildflowers naturalised beneath the hedges. A ‘mixed native’ hedge with 24 species of hedging plant that we selected to increase the local biodiversity around by providing flowers for pollinators, foraging & commuting corridors for bats, nesting sites for small birds and a safe haven for small mammals and invertebrates. It’s also a shelter belt to protect our tea fields - hedges also look lovely and enhance our local lanes!

Bouanne Libèthâtion - Happy Liberation Day Jersey 🇯🇪 76 years since the end of the occupation. Jersey and the rest of the Channel Islands were occupied by German forces during WWII from 1940-1945. My mum lived through the occupation and celebrates Liberation proudly every year when our beautiful Jersey along with our sister Island Guernsey were once again free - The rest of the Channel Islands being Liberated later in the month. 🇯🇪🇯🇪🇯🇪

So...what’s in a name? Tea Field Cottages forms part of our home. When we finished the restoration of the property, we renamed our house ‘Lé Clios Dé Thée’ which is Jèrriais for ‘Fields of Tea’ or ‘Tea Fields’. For those who don’t know, Jèrriais is the local language of Jersey, Channel Islands and is also known as Jersey Norman French or Jersey French. We named our home this as a nod to our cultural heritage and to acknowledge the new use of our fields as a tea plantation. We carved our house sign from a leftover piece of milled oak.
