When I decided to venture into self-employment, I felt overwhelmed with uncertainty. I didn't know where to start, what services to offer, or who my target audience was, and as someone with lifelong anxiety, entrepreneurship seemed daunting.

Despite my fears, I took a risk and applied for a project slightly outside my comfort zone, which turned out to be a great success. Through working with this client, I discovered a life-changing program that embodied everything I believed in when it came to travel but was never able to put into words. It was also exactly what I needed!

But there was one problem…

Committing to the program while my business was still new was terrifying. Nevertheless, I knew I needed the education and guidance it promised, so I took the leap and signed up. This decision connected me with like-minded individuals who shared my passion for travel and introduced me to a founder of an inspiring community, who became one of my cherished clients.

Working with this client opened even more doors and led me to another opportunity in a travel sector I had dreamt of entering for years.

Looking back, joining that program was more than just a business move; it became an investment that brought an abundance of benefits. Not only did I gain valuable knowledge and expand my network, but I also found fulfillment in nurturing a community of fellow entrepreneurs who shared my love for travel—a priceless boost to my mental well-being.

If you're struggling to gain momentum in your business, feeling isolated as an entrepreneur, or seeking guidance to bring your visions to life, I'd be honored to hold space for you and provide support. Together with Sahara Rose De Vore, one of my clients and mentors, we are thrilled to invite you to join us in The Travel Thought Leaders Circle this September.

Combining my experience in building authentic and powerful partnerships with successful travel businesses and Sahara's expertise as a TEDx speaker and founder of a rapidly growing global travel community, we will offer tailored guidance to help you think like a trailblazer, empowering you to confidently step into the next chapter of your business.

Popping in to send a belated Happy New Year to you all! 🎊 and share with you some philosophical thoughts I’ve had as of late 🧐

I just got back from a spontaneous solo trip to San Francisco and while I was reminded of the many benefits of travel, I also had plenty of time to reflect on the meaningful travel space we are a part of here at Your Travel Analyst. In doing so, a couple of questions surfaced for me:

Are there any repercussions of intentional travel? If so, what are they? ❌

Is any travel meaningless? If so, what does that look like? 🤔

I have a blog post coming soon on this very topic but in the meantime, I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments! 👇

“Intentional”, “mindful” or “transformational” travel all sound great, but they fail to address a major barrier that travelers face which keeps them from taking consistent, manageable and sustainable action on these types of experiences.

That barrier is an intention-behaviour gap. This is the idea that we say things like we want to ONLY eat local food, we want to travel zero waste or we want to practice meditation every day on our trip.

Sometimes we create such grandiose plans for our travels that we forget about the reality of our personalities, habits and more. Thus, our visions to become “better travelers” don’t come to fruition. ❌

Here are just a few ideas we have about closing this intention-behaviour gap. What other ideas can you think of? 🤔

I was so honoured to spend this speaking at my alma mater, Centennial College.

It was an incredibly full-circle moment for me to be able to look out at a room filled with the next generation of travel leaders and inspire them in their journeys.

It was especially pertinent that this year’s theme is all about how we can , which is the crux of the work we do at Your Travel Analyst.

A year ago, I didn’t know what a travel coach was. I did, however, know that travel was inherently powerful in its ability to be life changing, help us form meaningful connections, and have a positive impact on the world. Little did I know that this very passion for travel could be articulated and executed in the form of travel coaching. I haven’t looked back since.

Today, I am thrilled to be quoted in this Washington Post article alongside Sahara Rose De Vore and some of my fellow Travel Coach Network community members. Through this piece, Christopher Elliott captures the essence of travel coaching and its capacity to bring depth and meaningful impact to travel experiences (and travellers!) of all kinds. Enjoy!

I’ve had some new followers come on board over the last little while so I wanted to pop on and say welcome! My name is Claire and I’m a Toronto based travel researcher helping companies elevate their products and services (such as itineraries, eBooks, courses, presentations, and staff training programs) in a meaningful way.

I also wanted to thank everyone who tuned in to my talk on in the Travelling in a New Vegan World summit last week. I talked all about how you can implement transformational travel strategies into your business (or travels!).

If you missed it, no worries! There are still 5 days left in the summit and you can register for free to catch the replay of my presentation at the link in my bio!

This quote comes from ’s Insights for the New World of Travel report.

It touches on the importance of offering elevated service as a travel consultant that revolves around emotional support for the traveller as well as helping them work through their travel motivations and goals.

In revamping the traditional travel agent role, we can tap into a whole new world of creative and meaningful career opportunities for tourism professionals.

Let’s talk endings.

A while back I received a newsletter in my inbox from The World Experience Organization and a catchy word caught my eye: endineering (or how we engineer an ending to a product or experience).

An article on the WXO website referenced UX designer Joe MacLeod who identifies eight different types of endings. The article noted that experiences should not only be designed for the experiencing self but for the remembering self too.

We tend to focus on beginnings in the travel industry, especially the on-boarding and transaction elements. Putting thought into endings can generate effective word of mouth marketing.

If you design travel experiences, what sort of endings do your clients expect and how can you make them more impactful?

Over the course of the holidays I have been watching a phenomenal show called Welcome to Earth, which follows as he explores some of the world’s most remote and fascinating locations.

This series got me thinking about the power of awe in tourism. Welcome to Earth does a great job of exemplifying a concept within Transformational Travel that is referred to as “connection to the beyond”. This is all about being immersed in something or somewhere bigger than yourself that induces a sense of awe and makes us feel small.

Have you ever had awe or wonder inducing moments in your travels? Tell me about it in the comments below!

Yesterday held a virtual event called Design the Future which gathered insights from experts in various travel sectors. In my opinion, these were some of the highlights:

- It is a myth that COVID 19 created a hospitality labour crisis but it has exacerbated it
- CEO James Thornton emphasized the importance of distributed income throughout a community
- Measuring success should be less about arrival numbers and more about quality of/for travellers and benefits for host communities
- Regenerative tourism needs to move from being a niche to being the norm
- Vaccine inequity has the potential to deepen the divide in tourism

Overall, I was thrilled to see that was a major focal point in many conversations.

A 2014 Deloitte report noted that up to 87.7% of America’s workforce is unable to contribute their full potential because they aren’t passionate about their work.

In a sector like Tourism where emotional labor is involved, short lived perks like bonuses or pizza parties don’t cut it.

Travel can be a wonderfully complex and fulfilling field to work in, so companies should evaluate their “why” and curate authentic services that their team actually believes in.

Travel professionals do a great job of tending to travellers’ physiological and safety needs. It should be a baseline expectation that those are taken care of.

We need to address the other pieces: belonging and love, esteem and self actualization. In doing so, there are many potential benefits which include:

- A transformational travel experience for the traveller
- A positive and engaging experience for the host community
- A rewarding and enriched career for you and your team (as a result of happy travellers and suppliers)

As I read research every day trying to make a case for meaningful travel, I’ve stumbled upon the importance trying to find a clear cut reason and definition for meaning itself.

We appear to be drawn to meaning making in every area of life. We crave connection, richness and quality in our relationships, environments and experiences.

So when it comes to travel, why would we settle for anything less than meaningful?
