Ireland's largest zoo is registered as a charity - the proceeds from the visit go to rare species conservation programs. The zoo cooperates with the organization Snow Leopard Trust, created for the protection and study of snow leopards, allocates funds for the protection of snow leopards in Mongolia, India and Pakistan.

Eight years ago, a corner of Africa appeared in the old bed of the Turia River. Animals of different species coexist in their inherent ecosystems with original vegetation. Giraffes, antelopes and marabou gather in the savannah for water. Elephants roam among the baobabs, zebras tumble in the sand with rhinos, lemurs jump on the trees of "Madagascar", hippos and crocodiles swim together in the swamps.

During World War II, the zoo in Tiergarten was almost completely destroyed, most of the animals died. Today it is the richest zoo in the world in the number of species (1400). One of the oldest zoos in the United States, opened in 1889 as a division of the Smithsonian Institution, since its inception has been developing scientific programs for the conservation of endangered species. In 1972, giant pandas appeared here. For more than 40 years, the zoo staff has been studying their behavior and features. There are currently four pandas living here. These are the most famous and beloved visitors of the menagerie.
