After 5,5 days we arrived to the Canary Islands! 🇮🇨

Sailing this year was a challenge because of light winds in the first two days, so we had a chance to train running on spinnaker (the big red sail in the front) 💕

For most of the crew, this was the first time open-ocean adventure, and all of them performed top-notch 👌

Night watches and lookout, steering the boat, cooking on 2,5-meter waves (amazing cooking tbh) and just having fun and learning, they did everything perfectly 💕

After arrival, to stretch our legs, we climbed the nearest volcano, and now we are heading south to the marina for tomorrow, it's time to charge batteries and fill up the water tanks ⛵

And if you want to join us on one of our Canary Islands adventures, check out our website 💕

Before jumping to Gibraltar, we decided to spend some time and work a little bit on Ibiza ❤️ It's off-season now, which means the water is still hot, and the weather is amazingly stable but you are not burning after spending 20 minutes in the sun 😅 Also sunset is around 19:30, so perfect to watch it on the way back from Formentera ✨

So, if someone is interested in a daily or few-day trip on Ibiza and Formentera, feel free to contact us ❤️

🔥 Last weekend we got a question on our Airbnb account: "Is it possible to sail for two days straight, because I need some miles and experience for my sailing license".

💡 We came up with a proposition! According to the weather forecast, the wind between the islands was going to be strong, but manageable. The plan was to sail between Puerto de Mogán (on Gran Canaria) to Santa Cruz de Tenerife and back. 10h of sailing one way, 8h back, with wind between 25 and 35 knots.

⚓️ It worked out perfectly and our crew was simply awesome! Despite big waves and powerful gusts, they steered by hand for the whole time, getting to know each other with the ocean and the specific characteristics of the Canary Islands sailing.

So, to sum up:
👉 100 nautical miles
👉 18 hours of sailing
👉 25kt - 35 kt of wind
👉 2 ports
👉 1 weekend

Have you ever wondered how it feels to listen to Jingle Bells on the beach while sipping cold drinks? This trip is a perfect opportunity to find out. We will sail along the coasts of one of our favorite islands, Gran Canaria, in mid-December. This trip will be a perfect combination of holiday chill and proper sailing.

The trip starts in Las Palmas, the capital city of Gran Canaria. In the city we will visit Vegueta - the historic center of the city - with Casa de Colón, Cathedral de Santa Anna, and Contemporary Art Museum (Zuza’s favorite). Las Palmas is a perfect starting point for visiting Pico de la Nieves (1 949 m) and Roque Nublo (1 813 m) - the highest peaks with great hiking trails on this volcanic island. The central part of Gran Canaria offers an almost alpine-like atmosphere which is unique for the whole Canary Islands Archipelago.

Alternatively, we can stick to the shore and visit Reserva Especial De Las Dunas de Maspalomas and Las Salinas - natural volcanic pools. The cherry on top of the whole trip is visiting Puerto de Mogan, one of the places that feel like home. Fairy-tale (or Instagram-ready if you will) picturesque little port hidden on the southern part of the island. We cannot wait to show you Gran Canaria through our Beetle-shaped lens and go together on new adventures!

03.12 - 10.12 Fuerteventura
10.12 - 17.12 Fuerteventura - Gran Canaria
17.12 - 01.01 Gran Canaria (plans in progress)

Here’s an overview of our sailing trips for this autumn/winter in the Canary Islands. The week of sailing along the coast of Fuerteventura (03.12-10.12) will be the most laid back. We will focus on resting, light traveling, maybe some inland hiking, or just lying flat on the beach. Jumping between islands (26.11 - 03.12 Lanzarote - Fuerteventura) and (10.12 - 17.12 Fuerteventura - Gran Canaria) will include some light sailing along the coast but also up to 12h of blue water sailing while crossing between islands, so there will be something for everyone. Currently, we are brainstorming exact outlines to visit the most stunning places. Soon, we will post trip outlines on our website. Keep posted!

**We haven’t planned trips for the Christmas period. We are open to suggestions and willing to organize a private custom-made trip on request.

From Gibraltar to Lanzarote - our big ocean sailing trip
It’s not a trip for stressed-out or jittery individuals. We are going to sail from Gibraltar west on the open ocean and then spend roughly over a week on the open blue waters. It will be tough. It will be adventurous. It will be THE experience.

Imagine a week on the ocean with nothing around you but water all the way up to the horizon. Imagine having to spend a week on the boat with the same crew and the same captain, who is communicating via memes (I’m not kidding). Once the sail is set you cannot leave the boat until you’ll reach the land (Lanzarote). And you cannot throw the captain off the board because he’s the one with licenses and certificates (might be useful on arrival).

We are recommending this adventure to those who are fully aware of what they are signing up for, for those who really want to sail on the Atlantic Ocean, (or for those who need to complete their miles fast). Previous sailing experience is highly recommended.

Please check our blog post for more information on the routine of ocean sailing. If you have any questions regarding this trip or any other matter, do not hesitate to contact us through DMs, website, or email.

Stay safe!

This adventure begins in Alicante, a gorgeous port town with vibrant nightlife, exquisite food scene, a well-curated contemporary art museum, and Santa Barbara Castle overlooking the town. From Alicante, we will head north towards Benidorm and turn to the Balearic Archipelago from there.

During the trip, we will visit three Balearic islands - Formentera, Ibiza, and Mallorca.

First, we will sail from the Spanish Costa Blanca to Formentera, and visit Sant Francesc de Formentera and the stunning sandy beaches and salty lakes. Formentera is beautifully pure and tranquil. Tourism there is restricted and environmentally ethical, which results in a perfect get-away from the buzz of Alicante and the upcoming party scene in Ibiza.

Then we will sail to Ibiza, where we will stay in Puerto de Ibiza, visit the picturesque port town Dalt Vila and sunbathe on the beaches Ibiza is famous for (Playa Cala Salada, Cala Bassa, Cala Saladeta). Optionally, we can visit Parque Natural de Ses Salines. The southern part of the island is a hedonist’s dream with a vibrant nightlife scene, whereas the interior and northeast are peaceful.

Next, we will set sail to Mallorca, where we will spend the remaining time of the trip. Mallorca is breathtaking, to say the least. Everyone can find something for themselves, from the nightlife and white sand beaches to visiting caves (Cueva dels Hams, Cueva del Arta, Cuevas del Drach where you can listen to concerts), natural parks (PN de Mondrago
PN d’Albufera de Mallorca), churches and cathedrals (Cathedral de Mallorca, the 365v Calvari steps), indulging in local food and wine (Ecovinyassa, Finca son Bordilis), and our personal favorite - hiking in Serra de Tramuntana mountains! There’s a lot to explore!

Book your late September holiday with us and discover Balearic islands from the deck of the Beetle!

Gijón, finally!

After 27 hours at the Cantabrian sea, we finally reached the Puerto Deprtivo de Gijón to … hit the old town, catch the last few songs of an RVFV concert during Semana Grande and rest with a lovely glass of local natural cider in sidreria in the Cimedevilla.

But I’m getting ahead of myself.

It was a long sail. 27 excruciatingly slow hours and 110 sea miles. Note to the future self - if there are beautiful mountain ranges nearby (e.g. Picos de Europa) do not trust the weather forecast, it is most likely wrong. Period.

Over those hours we observed a stunning, almost cliche-like sunset, the rising moon and pink sky, counted stars and fishing boats (well, Adam did, Zuza was seasick and semi-alive in the cabin). Then after a long night, we changed watch and greeted the sunset with a cup of washed Rwandan pour over on the deck. It was something (at least for those awake).

Then the wind died. The last 30 miles were long and slow. We listened to podcasts and tried reading, sleeping, meditating, and general contemplation over life choices. At this stage, Zuza started missing labwork and staying on land.

In the end, we reached Gijón (or Xixón if you will), just to learn that the marine office closes at 19:00. Luckily sidrerias are open till late :)

After visiting Gibraltar, we will continue our journey east. We will sail along the southern coast of Andalusia and the area around Murcia (Alicante). We will splash around the Costa del Sol and head towards Málaga.

During the trip we will visit:

Málaga - a stunning historic city founded about 770 BC by the Phoenicians as Malaka. We will visit the Picasso Museum, the Málaga Cathedral, the Alcazaba castle, and the old market in Málaga - Mercade Central del Atarazanas. Optionally, we can relax in the Arabian Baths Hammam Al Andalus and/or hike in the Caminito Del Rey park - a walking trail along the steep limestone cliffs.

Nerja - small Andalucian town hiding man natural gems, such as Nerja cave - Cueva de Nerja, “Balcony of Europe” cliffs, Cascado de Maro waterfall, and stunning Rio Chillar walking trails.

Almeria - the best spot to visit the national park of Cabo de Gata-Nijar. We will spend some time there, and take a SUP and a dinghy to the fabulous beaches.

Cartagena - in Cartagena, a port city with a historical old town, we will the Roman ruins, and floor mosaics in the Archeological Museum. Cartagena has a strong connection with the sea which we will be able to see in the Naval Museum and National Museum of Subacuatin Architecture.

Mar Menor - the "sea in the sea" - a lagoon embedded in the Mediterranean Sea. The La Manga Spit is dividing the Mar Menor from the Mediterranean. It is a few Celsius degrees warmer and incredibly shallow (maximum depth is 7m!).

We will reach Alicante with minor stops along the way. In the final port, we will visit the castle overlooking the city (Castillo de Santa Barbara), take a walk in a very well-restored old town, and visit local art galleries and museums (displaying Picasso and Miro!) Optionally, we can catch a train to Murcia, a city famous for mind-blowing cuisine, we will share our favorite spots with you - natural wine bars and local tapas places! A dream!

We are sailing to Gibraltar! This place was on our bucket list, but we never had time to realize that plan. Until now!
Join us for this adventure, lets's spend a week discovering ports south of Faro, swimming in the ocean, eating delicious southern Portuguese and Spanish food, and learning about the local culture over a… pint! Three countries in one week on a sailing trip!

What we will visit on this trip?

Ria Formosa Natural Park - a system of barrier islands that communicates with the sea through six inlets. In 2010, the lagoon was recognized as one of Portugal’s seven natural wonders

Tavira - one of the Algarve pretties towns. We will sail to car-free Ilha de Tavira - a paradise little island famous for the kilometers of golden beaches

Ayamonte - town placed on the mouth of the Guadiana river belonging to the province of Huelva, Andalusia. We will visit the Church of the Divine Saviour in Ayamonte, built in Mudéjar style, and Salinas Del Duque - salty wetlands

Chipiona - we will notice Chipiona from far away due to Chipiona Lighthouse, famous for being the tallest in Spain and one of the tallest in Europe. We will visit the castle and a local muscat museum

Cádiz - is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Western Europe, with archaeological remains dating to the 12th century BC, it was founded by the Phoenicians. Due to its rich heritage, Cadiz is famous for the Old Town, narrow picturesque streets, city walls, and fortifications, a multitude of Piazzas, Cathedrals, and ancient architectural gems. Each quarter of the city is slightly different. But it is not all “old dusty rocks”. It is a place where flamenco was born!

Tarifa - after an exciting day of sightseeing in Cádiz we will rest at the beautiful beaches of Tarifa. The historic center, white sand, and crystal clear water sound like a perfect plan to spend time in this town finished with a beautiful sunset on the beach/or on deck.

We finish our trip at the famous Gibraltar, where we will visit the rock of Gibraltar with all of its fortifications and inner convoluted tunnels. We’ll make friends with the only native monkeys in Europe - macaques - and pop into St Michael’s cave where concerts, ballets, and techno raves take place. Gibraltar is a British “pearl” in the heart of the Mediterranean, with all of the funky phone booths, pubs, and Union Jacks all over the place. We will finish that day with a pint of Guinness :)

Now it’s time to sail along the remaining part of the Portuguese coastline, Alentejo and Algarve. From beautiful Lisboa, we will sail south and then east all the way to Faro. On this adventure, we will explore gorgeous beaches, anchor in hidden gem bays, and try to recreate the original southern Portuguese cuisine on our boat.

Places which we definitely want to visit include:

𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 - a place of birth of Vasco de Gama, with beautiful beaches and boulevards for long walks during sunset.

𝗟𝗮𝗴𝗼𝘀 - very pleasant with a historic center and rich heritage. We will visit the local market, Église de Saint Antoine and Porta de São Gonçalo. This stop offers dozens of attractions, so everybody will find something interesting for them.

𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗼 - after passing the main marina we will (if possible) park at the center of the delightful city, with many good restaurants, vibrant night-life, and stunning old town

𝗔𝗹𝗯𝘂𝗳𝗲𝗶𝗿𝗮 - to be honest, maybe it’s not our favorite city, but after a 20-minute walk to the north, there is a really surf-style bar at an amazing beach surrounded by cliffs! Perfect for a beer while watching the sunset. Of course, some parts of the city itself are amazing, but this bar has a special place in our hearts.

We will finish in 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗼, the big cultural city in the south, where we will have some time to explore the old town, visit the macabre chapel - Capela dos Ossos, observe wildlife from the paddleboard on the saltwater lagoons in Parque Natural da Ria Formosa, and sail to the Desserted Island.

Stay safe!

This time we will sail along the Portuguese coast, from one picturesque town to another! We will start in Porto at the river Duero. Personally, we love Porto, as a perfect combination of “big city life” and beautiful architecture. Next, we will slowly make our way south, discovering big and small marinas on our way to Lisboa.

On this trip, you will have the opportunity to visit many unique places, such as:

𝗡𝗮𝘇𝗮𝗿𝗲 - one of the most charming villages at “Costa del Prata”, most famous for gigantic waves. In winter they can reach up to 24 meters in height! This is possible because of a submarine canyon that is 5 kilometers deep and 200 kilometers long.

𝗣𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗲 - a calm fishing city with beautiful beaches. Good food, not many people, pure relaxation. It’s a mecca of surfers, just outside the Nazare’s huge waves, here you can try yourself at surfing.

𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗶𝘀 - one of the wealthiest towns of Portugal, an old place where Portuguese royal families spend their free time. The city is full of remarkable architecture, small alleys, and old houses of the aristocracy.

And finally, of course, we will sail up the Tag, admiring the panorama of Lisboa from the river! We are planning to stay for a day in Lisboa to lose ourselves in Alfama listening to Fado and grab some of our absolutely favorite pasteis de Belem. This will be a very active 7-day adventure and we can’t wait to sail with you!

About the first trip!

From Bilbao to Porto

Let’s discover together the beautiful landscape of South Biscay. At the start, we will visit the astonishing Guggenheim museum, eat lunch in the old port town and take a ride on the flying ferry, designed by one of Eiffel's students - Alberto Palacio.
In the following two weeks, we will discover several small anchorages, marinas, and old towns as travelers and sailors.

The South Biscay trip covers highlights such as:

𝗦𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 - an elegant city covered in Urban greenery where we will visit Nuestra Señora de la Asunción Catedral, Centro Botín, Museo de Arte Moderno y Contemporáneo de Santander y Cantabria (MAS) and the Esperanza Market!

𝗚𝗶𝗷𝗼𝗻 - the biggest city in the autonomous community of Asturias. We can visit the Museum of the Asturian People, see the enormous sculpture of Elogio del Horizonte, and walk along de San Lorenzo beach.

𝗩𝗶𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘇 - a tiny and adorable fishing port, known as the place of birth of Corrina Tellado, a famous Spanish book author. The city is inhabited by just 22 people.

𝗔 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗻𝗮 - we will see the Torre de Hércules, one of the oldest lighthouses in the world! Also we will wisit Jardín de San Carlos and Parque Escultorico.

𝗦𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗼 𝗱𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗮 - yes, I know it isn't next to the water, but we could use a day to rent a car and visit this iconic place. It is the capital of Galicia, one of the most famous places in Spain. We could visit Plaza del Obradoiro and of course Catedral de Santiago.

𝗠𝘂𝗿𝗼𝘀 - another adorable small city in the middle of nowhere. Let's step off the bitten track and find some new adventures!

𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗼 - we love this city, all the bridges, parks, hidden cafés and colorful architecture! I'm not going to list all the things we will visit, it would be too long! But I can assure you, it will be stunning!

Let’s go on this adventure together and create some amazing memories!

So it begins! 🔧

We are modernizing our yacht and preparing it for the months of sailing. Over the last few days, Adam was installing a new AIS transponder and changing the plotter for a new model. We went for an adventure to IKEA (cannot call it differently, it was a lot!).
There are a few last things left to fix and we are ready to go!

About the captain! ⛵️

I'm Adam and I'm sailing since I was 7 years old. I started at Optimist, then Cadet, 420er, and 470er. For those who don't know, these are the sports sailing classes. After my career was over I started working as a skipper in children's camps training and teaching them how to sail with every safety aspect across Mazurian lakes. Next was the time for bigger water. I was working as a skipper on trips over the Baltic and Mediterranean seas. In my free time, I was building my 5-meter ocean sailboat and preparing myself for solo sailing.

In 2021 I sailed single-handed (solo) from Lisboa to Tenerife on a hand-made boat, and now I'm preparing for the next step, Crossing the Atlantic ocean.

It gives me great pleasure to invite people to "sailing life" and I'm a little disgusted about the mass sailing business. Of course, everybody chooses whatever they like, but here I want to show you the raw sailing experience, with all of the upsides and downsides of this way of travel.

About the boat! ⛵️

We are sailing on our private boat called the “Beetle”. The name comes from the polish wordplay “Żuczek Podróżniczek” which translates to “Travelling Beetle”. Our family and friends are calling us “żuczki podróźniczki” due to our lifestyle and inability to stay in one place for longer than a moment.

“Beetle” is Jeanneau Sun Rise 35 Kevlar from 1988, maintained in a very good condition. She has 3 double-bank cabins, a stove with an oven, a two-compartment sink, a fridge, and a living room that can comfortably fit up to 8 people.

This boat sails like it’s flying, with subtle vibrations from speed. Putting up the spinnaker provides an extra thrill! Older design provides maximal strength and seaworthiness. Also, what we love in older boats is the perfect balance between a leisure yacht and an exploration boat. We can sail fast and stay pretty dry, even in bad conditions, but still have the luxury of cabins, stairs to the water, and enough deck to chill and sunbathe while staying on anchorage.

We want this boat to be fully sustainable, getting most of the power from the sun and wind. You can check more details about our beetle on our website: https://www.sailingbeetle.org

Nasz jacht! ⛵️

Starsza konstrukcja zapewnia maksymalną wytrzymałość i zdolność morską.
