A delayed final third day report from my site Visit for ACGI 2023.

Finger steaks were invented in Idaho many years ago. Why have I never seen them anywhere before? Will say that the item combined with crispy tots and legendary fry sauce is now at the top of my last meal list.

Third and final day began with an awesome thick slice of pumpkin chocolate bread, house made at a little coffee shop in Hyde Park at the gate to numerous hiking and biking trails in the foothills surrounding Boise. Then it was a delightful walk thru the quaint HP neighborhood with more public art displays, drinking establishments and gathering places. Cute neighborhood just a stone throw from downtown. Again, clean and safe environment.

Final golf course was Banbury Golf Club. Although a residential golf club, the houses were well off the fairways and quite attractive. Playing relatively flat but with some interesting hole layouts, it will be a good first Cup course to get everyone warmed up.

Closed out the trip with a quick visit to the Boise State legendary football stadium, with a keepsake photo on the blue turf (which I can't post here for sponsorship contract reasons). Airport return was quick and easy, less than five minutes from counter check-in to TSA and gate arrival.

Super excited about Boise and am confident it will be another epic Cup experience. The city and the state have much to share with the rest of the world

Part 2 of Day 2 of the ACGI site visit:

A visit to the fantastic World's Center for Birds of Prey center where scientific research, passion for preserving species is helping save several endangered birds of prey around the world. And the Archives of Falconry with its tribute the ages old art of hunting with birds of prey is fascinating and so interesting.

In the afternoon we took on the Falcon's Crest Golf Club with its generous fairways but challenging layout, surrounded by more awesome fall colors.

Day 2 (part one) of the Boise site visit for the 2023 ACGI did not disappoint. A hearty breakfast at local favorite Goldy's, followed by a walking tour to the Basque Street and a lesson on the culture and the history in Boise along with what seemed like endless displays of vibrant street art, murals, sculptures and more. The Egyptian theater is a perfect example of retaining the historic architecture of the city with modern uses such as silent movie film festivals and ski films. The Capitol building is impressive with its beautiful locally sourced lime stone, Italian marble and detailed painting.

Day 1 of site visit in Boise for ACGI 2023. Wow! Quail Hollow Golf Club, amazing fall foliage, Trelaya Winery, art everywhere AND incredibly clean streets. I am impressed and cannot wait until next September.

We were small but mighty. The ACGI 2022 came to Trumbull County, Ohio, unaware of of its many golf and travel assets and left on a mission to share with the world what it is missing out on. An amazing resort (Grand Resort), awesome golf tracks (Firestone, Avalon Lakes, Squaw Creek, Youngstown Country Club + Penn Ohio Golf Trail), classic middle America destination experiences (soap box derby, Packard car museum, Italian food trail, bbq and creamery, craft beer and more, oh my!) as well as fantastic business relationships created.

24 official hours in and we've already had heated recreational competition, dined family style, shared many toasts, golfed a fantastic Pete Dye course (Avalon Lakes), ogled beautiful classic cars, overwhelmed an unsuspecting coffee joint, saw Dave Grohl's tribute alley/mural, and enjoyed a gourmet dinner with beer pairings, in a craft brewery! Whew!! Oh, and incurred one parking ticket...

And so it begins...........

Bag tags are done. Just one of the many behind-the-scene preparations being made for what will be a most exciting week of connecting colleagues, developing business and fostering friendships in Ohio, Sept. 26-30, for the 7th annual American Cup Golf Invitational.

21/02/2022

Just 217 days until the 2022 American Cup GI in golf haven Warren/Trumbull County, Ohio. This little swatch of middle America will shock and awe with its abundance of exceptionally high quality tracks, quaint communities, arts and culture, culinary and history. So close to Cleveland and Akron, it serves as an accessible and affordable destination for golfers and non-golfers alike.

Happy New Year!

Proud to announce the contribution to the Death Valley Natural History Association from this year's Cup charitable activities. Big thanks to everyone who donated trip experiences, donated or bought merchandise, purchased Mulligan packages, paid their lost item ransom, used the golf ball cannon, other to help make this year's donation extra special. Carlos Pizan's $2,000 donation for the Yolo County and Winters package will go to support the Association's R.O.C.K. programming while Corinne Martinez's purchase of a package at The Oasis and a beautiful scarf from France will go to sponsor the Dark Sky Festival in the Park, February 27-29.

The remaining $2k from the various activities throughout the week will also go to support the Festival.

It is a great feeling to leave such a legacy behind in the destinations we hold Cup events. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

A couple of days late making this post - maybe because I was still reeling from the incredible final day of the Covid Cup.

Can't think of a better course to have finished up the week. People referred me to Fossil Trace, indicating it would be the one to remember. And they were right. FT is not only a stunning track but some unique characteristics in its design make it stand out even further. Hole 12's Triceratops Trail, showcasing real dinosaur tracks and fossils, not to mention the obelisks of natural rock formations dotting the fairway, made for a fun but challenging play. And hole 17's elongated snake like trap is one to avoid at all costs.

FT was only 1.5 miles from our hotel, Table Mountain Inn in Golden, making it even more attractive to play.

And speaking of Table Mountain Inn and Golden, fell in love with both. Golden is a quaint little town with a broad variety of dining and drinking establishments, clean streets, attractive public art throughout town and close proximity to a great hiking trail. The hotel was clean, big rooms, great service and a good value. Centrally located too.

The Covid Cup has come and gone but the memories will live forever. The destination experience and the people made it one of the best Cup events EVER! Thanks to Jen Bartlett and her fiance/now husband Tom, Dave Ryan, Rafael Villanueva, Brad Mark and his lovely wife Iliana, Liz Birdsall, Alfredo Gonzalez, Faith, Chris Pilley and Jen/Tom's friends who all came out during the week.

Here is hoping we can bring the ACGI back to the Denver area in 2022.

01/10/2020

Another incredible day at the Covid CUP. Day three brought us to Bear Dance, a mountain terrain golf track and completely different from the previous two rounds. This PGA course continually ranks as one of the best in the state and for good reason.

Topped off the day with a tasty pizza at Woody's Wood Fired Pizza in Golden.

30/09/2020

Day 2 of the Covid Cup at Arrowhead Golf Club in Littleton surely did not disappoint. Easy to understand how it is the third most photographed course in the US. Every hole had an interesting if not photogenic layout. And the rock formations looked like something right of Disneyland.

Day 1 of Covid Cup 2020 in the books. An amazing day at TPC Colorado. Thank you, Liz Birdsall, for the generous hospitality.

An awesome course with some great hole challenges. A memorable one for sure is the 773 yard 5 par #13, longest hole in North America.

Also had a great stay at the new TownePlace Suites in Loveland and a fun dinner at the Pourhouse Pub. The coffee and cinnamon rolls at the Colorado Coffee Company were a "must".

Off to Golden for three nights and today's course, the Arrowhead Golf Club.

26/09/2020

Just a day away now. Denver is calling with nearly perfect weather, fantastic golf conditions and destination exploration in Loveland/Ft. Collins and Golden. Very much looking forward to exploring these areas outside of the Denver downtown core.
