Trans* Parachute United Trans Parachute United [TPU] started as a trans support/education group at JC. Since then, it has become more of a community support as need grows.

T*PU was officially approved beginning in the Fall semester of 2011 with its founding officers: Dani Gaisior (class of 2012), Liz Sunde, and Joyce Lin (both class of 2013). They started the process in late fall 2010, deciding officially that the campus needed a specific trans* support and education group in spring 2011, and went about getting approved. It wasn't hard, and it still isn't, but the m

ain goal is to provide a safe space for trans* people and for cis people to learn about other gender identities and experiences.

I’ve always had a hard time with gender dysphoria. Identifying it has been half the struggle. For most of my life it was unnameable, and unqualifiably sad - a deep ache in the pit of my belly that I had learned to ignore. When it reared its head I saw it as dysfunctional, and my self-image was ta

This page had been started originally as a Facebook presence for a little trans group at Juniata. Since it was founded... The group that was originally created has since rejoined with Prism (AWoL for us old folks).

I have considered deleting this page. Something kept me from doing it each time.

But in the last couple months, I have gotten more and more inquiries from the community. Not the college folk, but the locals who are looking for a way to get support here.

So. I, just me cause I'm the admin still local, decided to run this a little bit. See what comes from it. Maybe it's what we need as the trans community grows in this little pocket of the world.

In the last 72 hours I've received more death threats, r**e threats, abuse and hatred than I can count. I'm transgender, and on Sunday, Sept. 29, I found my name spreading across the gaming community for identifying the man who'd misgendered me.

Beautiful read.

A lot of marriages don’t survive raising a gender-creative son who is, statistically speaking, most likely going to be gay or transgender as an adult. I wish I could to talk to those men. I wish I could be there for their kids.

"These feminist arguments are more than mere transphobic platitudes. They readily translate into physical violence outside these spaces, particularly for trans women of color. According to a 2012 report by the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs (NCAVP), 53 percent of anti-LGBTQ homicide victims are trans women, and 73 percent of all anti-LGBTQ homicide victims are people of color. This is why I reject any "sisterhood" that excludes trans women and doesn't value trans feminism in our community."

I don't count any transgender women among my close LGBTQ and feminist friends. I'm not proud of that. I'm also not alone.

The Social Security Administration changed their policies regarding gender marker changes! No longer will they require surgery, but instead a letter from their medical provider will suffice.

This isn't the end of the fight, but it is certainly a step in the right direction.

While this story doesn't deal with trans* issues, it is a local story. Rep. Mike Fleck represents the 81st District in the PA House of Representatives which Juniata College falls into. This article doesn't have the complete story from the paper, which TKep's quoted in for some reason, so if you want to read the entire thing go grab a paper for 50 cents. Considering how conservative the area can be, the story the Daily News did on this was very tasteful and frank.

State Rep. Mike Fleck (R-Huntingdon) publicly acknowledged Saturday that he is gay, making him the first openly gay lawmaker in Pa. and one of just a few openly gay Republican state legislators in the entire country.

We will be meeting tonight in Founders 401 at 7 pm! We'll be talking about what events we should do next semester. Any ideas?
