@karinaworldwide 📍Mexico I woke up this morning feeling angry and disappointed, caught up in the frustrations of the world. But then I realized something—most of the problems people will face today or this week won’t affect my day-to-day life outside of social media. That’s when I felt a deep gratitude for the decision I made to leave the U.S., and I know, deep down, I’ll probably never live there permanently again. If it weren’t for family, friends, food, and financial obligations, I wouldn’t even consider it. For a long time, I felt immense guilt for not moving back before my mom passed. I visited often, but there was something that kept me from returning permanently. However, the past few days have reassured me that I made the best decision for my mental and emotional health. I’m so happy with the life I’ve chosen. It isn’t always easy, but I have the freedom to do what I want, when I want, and for as long as I choose. I left behind the “work ‘til you die” hustle culture that buries so many dreams. We’ve been shown what many think about women who are dreamers and doers, and that’s now our harsh reality. We’ve been treated as second-class citizens, even potentially being denied the right to choose what happens to our bodies. But through all of this, I’ve rediscovered what it means to be a dreamer, to live at my own pace, and to choose peace, happiness, and freedom over everything else. Nothing is worth more than those three things and I’ll choose me every time. January 6, 2021 (does the date look familiar) will make it four years that I’ve lived in Mexico and this past August made it six years since I’ve lived abroad. Life isn’t easy but I have peace ❤️ #livingabroad #mexico #blacktravel #travelblogger
