Post-18, Day-7&8
After checking out of our hotel in Chanderi, we had a couple of stops left before heading out. First, we went to handloom park of Chanderi to see making of famous chanderi fabric and also bought some fine fabric for ourselves. Our last stop of Chanderi was Shahzadi Ka Roza - a 15th century elegant structure standing tall as a reminder of a beautiful love story.
Thereafter, we started our journey back home and for overnight stay at Agra, it was a 7 Hours drive. We reached Agra at around 9:30 PM, had dinner and crashed after a long day. Next morning, we started early at around 5:30 from Agra. It was a 12 hours drive to Punjab covering approximately 700 Kms. We safely reached home in the evening carrying some beautiful memories of this roadtrip.

We woke up early to explore the pending monuments of Chanderi. First we headed to Kati Ghati, which is located on the outer boundary of the town and became quite famous after Stree movie. This gateway to Chanderi is said to have been carved in a single day.
Thereafter, we visited Jama Masjid - a 15th century mosque known for its beautiful islamic architecture. Opposite to Jama Masjid is a landmark monument of Chanderi - Badal Mahal, which has a beautifully carved gateway preserved amid well maintained gardens.
Later, we traversed the streets of Chanderi and explored Raja Rani Mahal which is located in the heart of Chanderi. Then we headed back to the hotel to have breakfast and check out.

After Checking into our hotel, we hurried to explore nearby Chanderi fort. It’s located on a hillock overlooking Chanderi Town.
The Fort is believed to have been built in the 11th century by the Chandelas and later expanded by the Mughals in the 16th century.
Later, we came back to our hotel and watched a magical sunset from the rooftop. We just sat there sipping tea, chatting and watching the sun go down and lights lit up the whole Chanderi Town. When we got to know from the hotel staff about the light and sound show at Chanderi fort, we immediately got our tickets. It was an amazing experience and we were glad to have not missed that.

After exploring Koshak Mahal, we drove to our stay for the day - MPT Kila Kothi, Chanderi. It’s a beautiful royal residence of erstwhile Scindia State, now converted into a hotel managed by Madhya Pradesh Tourism. Highlight of this property is its location. Located on a hillock near Chanderi Fort, this property offers panoramic views of Chanderi City.
As we had skipped lunch today, so we had some snacks before exploring Chanderi Fort.

After exploring Chanderi Museum, we went to another beautiful historical site of Chanderi - Koshak Mahal.
Koshak mahal is an ancient palace structure whose gateways are main attraction. It is a square shaped multi-storyed building with so many gateways with arches which make it unique structure and distinguishes it from other monuments of Chanderi. Structure is said to be incomplete and one can only imagine how beautiful it could have looked if completed.

MP Road Trip 2.0
Post-13, Day-6
We were woken up at 6:30 in the morning by a thunder strike. It hasn’t stopped raining since past two days and we were desperately hoping it to stop by the time we reach our next destination, Chanderi. We took a tour of the property we were staying in, because we reached here last night just after sunset and couldn’t explore much. Thereafter, We got ready, packed our stuff, had breakfast and left for Chanderi by 9:00 AM. On the way we had narrow escapes from road blockades due to some overflowing Nalas and safely reached Chanderi by 1:30 PM.
Chanderi Museum was located on the road side just before the entrance to Chanderi and we stopped there, had a cup of tea to celebrate some sunshine finally. Chanderi Museum have some beautiful artefacts on display apart from other historical evidences discovered in Chanderi and some of these artefacts are even displayed in open where photography is allowed. We took our own sweet time to explore this place before heading out to next one.

From Sanchi, we drove for a little under half an hour to reach Udaigiri Caves amid light drizzle. We only had half an hour to explore the caves, before it closes.

Udaigiri Caves, also known as the Vidisha Caves, are a group of rock-cut caves located in Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh. The caves date back to the 5th century CE and contain some of the earliest known examples of Gupta art & architecture. Known for their elaborate carvings and sculptures, these caves depict scenes from Hindu mythology.

At sunset, after exploring the caves, we reached our stay for tonight at Udaigiri , MPT Jungle Resort, which is a secluded property located in the middle of a forest.

By the time we reached Sanchi Stupa, drizzling stopped for a while. We were amazed to see first glimpse of the place, we had read so much about in history books. Sanchi Stupa was built in 3rd century BCE by great Mauryan Emperor Ashoka to house relics of Gautam Buddha. It’s a huge complex, housing stupas of different sizes surrounded by beautiful gardens, relics of monasteries, beautiful carved stupa gates depicting scenes from life of Buddha and so much more. Don’t miss to trek down to see isolated Stupa 2.

Post-10, Day-5

It hadn’t stopped pouring since last night. When we saw no sign of reprieve from rainfall, we checked out of Noor Us Subah Palace and headed out to our next stop - Sanchi. It was just 1.5 hours drive and we drove slowly hoping for the rain to stop, but it didn’t. On the way, we crossed Tropic of Cancer and stopped capturing some memories. Amid continuous rainfall, we reached Sanchi and decided to explore Archaeological Museum of Sanchi. It has some beautiful artefacts collected from nearby archeological sites and the complex also has a beautiful bungalow of Sir John Marshal - the person responsible for excavating the Sanchi Stupa.
