Treasures of the South

Cebu has been my home for several years. I’ve been blessed by its beautiful culture and sceneries that I won’t get tired of. Yet, for a girl who kept on moving from place to place, it took half of my lifetime to reside on the north of Queen of the South for a short period of time. Spending half of my life in the northern part of Cebu made me oblivious to the hidden gem obscured in the south of Cebu. So, when my family and I moved there, I felt uncomfortable with the thought of living in a region that’s brand new to my eyes, and I felt out of place for not knowing the places that well. Looking at the map of Cebu, I see a lot of places that I’ve been missing out on my whole life. However, looking at a geographic representation of Cebu is not enough for me to have a closer look at those gorgeous locations. Last 2018, I had the chance to take a glimpse of what Southern Cebu looks like.

The best way to start road trips is to leave in the early morning. Chilly and fresh winds caressing your skin and hitting your hair is like taking a deep breath of fresh air from the packed and noisy city. It was in May 2018 when my family and I managed to clear-out our schedule and planned to have a snippet on what all of the people are hyping about Southern Cebu. Our plan involves just sight-seeing, and if there’s a shop that would pique our interest, then we’ll have a stopover a bit and continue our way all around the south of Cebu and towards our home as early as possible. We managed to buy some food and necessities in the city before we drove our way to the Transcentral Highway.

If you’re leaving from the city, the finest way to get access to the Southern region of Cebu is by taking the Cebu Transcentral Highway. It is a road that connects the main city of Cebu to the municipality of Balamban – one of the municipalities sitting on the Southwest of Cebu. However, disadvantages are lurking on taking this path such as only a few public vehicles are taking on this route so renting a private vehicle would be a big advantage on this one. Also, this road takes almost 28kms and gasoline stations and vulcanizing stations are very scarce to naught on this road.

It was a long ride or should I say a rollercoaster ride for having ups and downs on the path as we went that would make your lower body so sore. The rollercoaster ride we felt was then paid off on so many levels when a bird’s eye view of the city greets your eye. You could see the city and the sea until the horizon from above. It was our view for a few minutes until we managed to reach a few neighborhoods residing in the mountains and minutes later, we arrived at Balamban.

In the municipality of Barili, we had a stopover at Molave Milk Station located alongside the Barili-Carcar road. They offer such a cozy ambiance with trees surrounding the place and a picnic-y kind of feeling. They offer a variety of rice meals and dairy products. However, I would say that they are known for their Goat Milk. I personally tried their goat milk and it tasted amazing and I would recommend for everyone to try it out. The only thing that made me distance from this place is because their products are costly for me. Their ice cream or gelato and goat milk cost 100 pesos each so if you don’t mind it at all, then I suggest going all out.

After a quick break from the milk station, we decided to ride our way around south and back to our home as it was getting late. Throughout the ride, we were still welcomed with lush green mountains covered in trees, cerulean waters that reflect the beam of the sun, and fresh air. Away from the noise and air pollution of the city.

We were skidding down straight to Barili-Toledo-Santander road when we finally managed to reach the southernmost municipality in Cebu. We then managed to start circling the south Cebu by taking the N.Bacalso road leading to Minglanilla. Before we left Santander, we managed to stop a bit to a viewing deck just alongside the road and across the pebbled stonewall with signage “Welcome to Santander”; facing the shining waters of Santander and had a glimpse of Somilon Island, taking a deep breath of the ocean air once more as we admire the island from afar not knowing when we’ll be seeing it again and up-close.

The afternoon sun was starting to set as we cruised down the N.Bacalso road on our way home. We managed to take a sneak peek of the Night Food Stall when we arrived at Carcar City. We didn’t manage to eat the food there because it was packed with locals and tourists but I bet the food is top-notch delicious—there wouldn’t be a massive crowd if it weren’t. The night sky then enveloped pretty quickly than I expected and accompany us to our home, concluding our road trip.

The disappointing things about our road trip are we didn’t get to eat any delicacies that were proudly advertised by locals and haven’t got time to visit their famous tourist spots or even take a walk on the ground of every place we managed to encounter.

In spite of the disappointments I got from our first ever road trip, I still got a chance to take a peek at what Southern Cebu is all about. My family and I had a great time, away from the worries and stress from the city to take a break with nature.

Cebu will always never disappoint to bless me with its own unique culture and picturesque sceneries.

For starters, I am proud to be a native Cebuano/Cebuana living here at the municipality of cebu. Where I find myself planted exactly at the heart of Old Philippine Railway Residents Association here in cebu. They all say its more fun in the Philippines and technically yah it is. However, let me rephase that tagline "Its more fun to travel in the specific places here in the Philippines"

The Philippine Railway Company, along with operating the Panay line, operated a line in Cebu from 1911 to 1942, when operations ceased because of the Japanese occupation of the Philippines during World War II. The line ran from Danao south through Cebu City to Argao.

Thats why its called Old Philippine Railway Residents Association. Unfortunately by the time evolves our place loss its railway and begin to become an ordinary spot for trash dumpsite. Rumors says that our place was used to be a cemetery for legal killed and not legally killed people.

Moving forward,

As we all know philippine culture is filled with hospitality and kindness thats why im proud because cebu is part of it. Here the tourist spots are awe-spring to the eye despite of its history and where some part of the beach has crystal clear water and finest white sand.

I am on cloud nine when I say that I travelled our one of the nearest tourist spot here in (OPRRA) and its called ' The Taoist Temple.

According to Wikipedia, Cebu Taoist Temple is a Taoist temple located in Beverly Hills Subdivision of Cebu City, Philippines. The temple is built by Cebu's substantial Chinese community in 1972. With an elevation of 110 metres (360 ft) above sea level, the temple is a towering, multi-tiered, multi-hued attraction accessible by three separate winding routes.

Nevertheless, me and my friends used to be here at this so called Taoist Temple. We visit here to unwind and have to take a look for a while what view can this temple offer. We used to visit here after having a heavy week on school.

This temple is a great place for study group, filming, pictorials because aside from its so quite, its so formal too and the view? you wont regret spending your leisure time here.

I and my friends got so many memories from this temple, we've been here since freshmen year and until now we are still going to this temple which is which unfortunate for us to go in this currency of time.

Pandemic issue had ruined so much things in our lives, taken away our chance to get out there and create bunch of memories. Though, I haven't visited again this temple for how many months since quarantine I'd love to go here again and spend my day appreciating what our place could offer.

The resort, Ruvi Cave, opens from 6 am to 10 pm for daytime use which is 120 pesos per adult and 60 pesos per kid. They also accomodate night swimmers from 6 pm to 12 pm for 150 pesos per adult and 80 pesos per kid. It is also located in Tung Kopp, Minglanilla. To get there from SM City Cebu or E-Mall, ake a KMK Bus to Tung Kopp. Once you are already in the proper, take a habal-habal or trycicle to take you to the resort.
When my friends and I went to Ruvi Cave, we really enjoyed our stay there. We did a lot of things and took some pictures for remembrance. There were times that we almost got onto an accident but luckily, we're all safe and we really had fun. The water in the pool was so clear with a lots of slides. They're also strict when it comes to diving because people might hit their heads. If you want to sing, there's a karaoke available in each cottages. I remembered when we sang and put the karaoke in it's full volume. We got scolded by the security guard because we were so loud at that time. The resort was very affordable. The comfort room was neat and clean. What I liked about their pool there were for adults and kids so everyone could enjoy swimming. They also have rooftop that would let you witness a beautiful view. If you plan to stay overnight, they also offer rooms for stay all night and it's affordable. I like their policy because they're very cautious and they only want the best of their costumers. The staffs were also friendly. Their pool was also massive.
You can certainly take big groups there without lierally rubbing each others elbows. The getaway is perfect for families who like taking quick relaxing break or vacation during weekends. The resort was surrounded by green trees that addded up the peace and serenity of the place.

"HERMIT'S COVE"
It was a sudden trip decided by my parents. So in 4:00 am in the morning, we packed our things and foods. Then we rode on our minivan and my mother said that we would be going to a beach in Aloguinsan called Hermit's Cove.

We drove the South Rode Property(SRP) because it is the fastest route to Lawn, Talisay and it was on the day of Wednesday early in the moring so there's no traffic. Yet if you don't have a car or motorcycle you can ride a Ceres bus in South Bus Terminal(SBT) cause it has aircon and it'll just cost up to P110 pesos. The trip will only take 1hr and 32mins to get to Aloguinsan. So bring some food or snacks to make you more comfortable and relaxed.

While we rode in our minivan we would listen some old songs, eat some junk foods, and just mesmerize the view of the mountains. We would often see the sea on our way.

Upon arriving on our destination, we were welcomed by the beach employees then we paid the entrance fee for only 100 pesos per head including the usage of the cottages. Before you get to the beach they oriented us of what are their rules or restrictions to protect the area like overnight stays are prohibited that is why they only open from 7am to 5pm daily and then informed us the history of how or why the beach got it's name. After the orientation you would need to go down by the stairs to get to the beach. While walking on the stairs you could see the very beautiful view of the beach itself from above. On our way to our cottage, we saw some old ladies dressed in traditional costumes. A moment later they danced the said to be their local dance presentation. When we settled in our cottage we immediately start grilling the porkchops by their free grilling and barbecuing stations stalls. You can see some fishermen selling their fresh fishes in an affordable prices too. After lunch we were now enjoying the beach not wasting any time.

Later 5pm in the afternoon, we are now starting to pack things up to go home. We then bid goodbye to the place and hopped into our minivan. Going back it was so traffic especially from Carcar to Minglanilla when it gets dark. So instead of 1hr and 32 mins trip it would take 2-3 hours to the city.

That trip was not planned but it was amazing. I got to see a very beautiful place and their culture as well. Maybe I am born here in Cebu yet I still didn't really know everything about it.

As a citizen here in dalaguete, I was so proud to have this spot, Plaza Dalaguete. It is found across the sea. It is very relaxing and it seems to be getting rid of the problems. You can feel the breeze from the sea and the freshness in it. It is the place where me and my friends often to go. I have a lot memories here with my family and my friends. We can chill here by drinking beverages, watching bands and of course delicious foods like kwek kwek and tempura won't left behind. WHEREVER YOU GO, GO WITH ALL YOUR HEART.❤ THE BEAUTY OF SAN FERNANDO.❤"

My very first travel is the SAN FERNANDO, CEBU because my mom lived there for almost 16years we visited here every fiesta we gather all of my family to go to the "SAN ISIDRO CHURCH."
SAN ISIDRO CHURCH IN SAN FERNANDO was my best church for me it has lot of unforgetable and memorable moments. The church here looks great it has an old time look and has a great history and we called it the HEART OF THE TOWN OF SAN FERNANDO, CEBU.
And the second one is the beach here in san fernado called "PULCHRA BEACH RESORT" my awesome summer escaped I liked because the place is surrounded by a vast coconut plantation with lush lagoon suites and luxurious villas. Combined with a peaceful ambiance and elegance, the guests all feel relaxed and in sync with nature. It was really awesome beach to visit. And the last is the specialty food of san fernando is the BUKO PIE. The buko pie of San Fernando is not the usual buko pie you may find in supermarkets and groceries in the city. While these delicacies are smaller than the usual buko pie, they taste as good, if not better than the ones you normally see in the city.

A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS, BUT A MEMORY IS PRICELESS.❤

TRAVELOGUE

Tabuelan started to spread it's home around the Island of Cebu for owning white sand beach . This white sand beach that I'm talking about is the beautiful Maravilla Beach . It is likely the most promising tourist destination in the Northwestern part of Cebu.Maravilla Beach can be a perfect place to distress and experience fun without having to worry about spending too much . You can actually opt to just sit back ang relax while gazing into the stunning sunset when the sun rest below the horizon.

From North Bus Terminal , ride any bus or Vhire bound for Tabuelan . Luckily we were able to ride a bus free because it is sponsored by USJR . We went to Maravilla Beach to celebrate our successful event which is the National Youth Day . After almost 3hours , we finally arrived at the Maravilla Beach . I was actually shocked when we arrived cause the beach was crowded and a lot of beach goers that day. Thus, we look for a place/venue where we can set up our things . We had our lunch along the beach and after our lunch , I decided to amble around the beach while listening to waves kissing the coast . I have run across some friends as well that day who happened to be at the Maravilla Beach , after our lunch we touched up and went to a cave for photoshoot . I can't really attest that it's sands are as fine and as white as many other famous beaches around the country (haven't been to many places 😂) , I can see and even in the photo below that the grains are somewhat a mic of white and a bit of black .

If you're planning to stay overnight , you can just camp on the beach , You can spend many activities on Maravilla like playing volleyball and have some games . Food is basic but I highly recommend bringing your own consumables because there has no lot of stores in the area. So if you are the kind of person who is fond of extraordinary cuisine , go on bring your own.

TRAVELOGUE

I always wanted to visit a place to escape and explore and thankfully I was able to do it. It was March 2017 when my father’s sister decided to travel to Antig Tingko Beach, Alcoy, Cebu to celebrate the 18th birthday of her twin. It was my first time in one of the beaches in Cebu and I was so excited.

The best way to get there is to ride a Ceres Liner bus cause it’s cheaper than other transportation, tickets cost 100php- 150php only from South Bus Terminal to Alcoy and the journey takes 2 hours and 35 minutes, but expect that your ride will takes long specially when it’s traffic. Tingko Beach is know as Cebu's famous white sand beach in Alcoy, and I can’t wait to witness if it true or not. Along the way, I wasn’t really felt boredom cause I’m enjoying the view specially that where ever your eyes landed, you can see a beautiful nature. As we reaches our destination, we wait for a little moment to settle things inside, like paying the cottage that cost 900php- 100php and paying the entrance pay that cost 20php for adults and 10php for children and after a moment, finally I was able to see the white sands that they’re talking about. As I walk inside the beach, white sands and beautiful scenery welcomed me. Truly, it has really a white sand. It was so beautiful to that time specially that it’s almost sunset. After we settle our things inside the cottage, time to swim. And seriously, I almost drown cause I went to a deep part and I really don’t know how to swim, 'till now. Then later than night, I don’t know If I was able to sleep cause the other cottage is so loud. And if I were you, don’t use the comfort room cause when I use it once, there’s a tissues and napkins in the floor and it’s smelly. Our last day there was so awesome cause we went to a little sand bar and swim there and yeah I already have a life jacket so I was so confident that time.

But even if how wonderful that time or moment is, there’s always an end. You need to go back to the reality and move on for another adventure. My experienced in Tingko Beach will be forever in my memory. If I will be given a chance to visit again that place, I won’t hesitate to say yes. Tingko Beach became my escape that time and it would be great if I can visit that place again.

And I hope that I can visit another place in the near future to escape for a little moment.

Many tourists visit Cebu to chill by the beach, swim with the whales and maybe go island hopping. However, these activities are not my cup of tea. I didn't join my friends for these activities, so I had one full day for myself. Honestly, I didn't plan anything as it was a last-minute decision to opt-out from balamban
At first Balamban, Cebu escapade seemed picture-perfect and soothing
First, I chilled at JVR Island in the Sky, admiring the fresh mountain breeze.🍃Then, I stopped and smelled the roses at Buwakan ni Alejandra.🌹
Afterwards, I was blown away by the beauty of Florentino’s Eco Park.
The only agenda I had in mind was to do a little sightseeing in Cebu
Honestly, This trip was totally unexpected and unplanned. Sometimes, life had its way to make it happened. Being spontaneous and going with the flow at times feel pretty good too. It was a good day.🤗♥️

“Winding Road of Ecstasy ☁️”
📍Busay (Cebu Transcentral Highway)

It is without a doubt that Cebu has a lot to offer. From food, malls, events, and of course, must-visit tourist spots. Cebu City does not only reach out to heritage aficionados, it also extends its arms to travelers who fancy a mountain adventure. At the highlands few minutes from downtown area are tourist attractions that highlight the beauty of Cebu City on its mountain side, particularly Busay area.

Last year 2019, together with my travel buddies, we unhesitated to run-off to the west end of Cebu. We picked these two famous uphill destinations that have been taken the internet by storm through its picturesque spots, The temple of Leah and the Sirao Flower Garden.

From colon street we ride the 04L jeep to JY Square Lahug. Look for the palengke (wet market) there and ride a habal–habal (motorbike) to Sirao. That would be around Php 400-600 round trip for two persons with multiple destinations, since it loaded extortionate, it would be nice to include other places in your itinerary, like Temple of Leah. Just negotiate with the driver. It's actually a short trip about 30-45 mins from JY Square to Sirao Flower Garden.

As we passed through the Transcentral Highway leave me astounded from it's view down there. That mountainous highway is far the finest road I've found in the city on which to enjoy a fun, relaxing, and challenging motorbike ride. With plenty of twists, turns, and switchbacks to excite the motorbike enthusiast. Stunning views from the mountaintops are sure to delight photographers, and numerous villages line the road with vendors selling everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to cold drinks and prepared food. It is also dotted with upscale lodging, budget hotels, and 'eco resorts' that will whet the appetite of even the most discerning tourist. The road is well maintained and a joy to travel by bike. If you're a biker, then this road should be on your bucket list.

I remember Sirao Flower Garden as mini Amsterdam. With its fiery celosia flowers and stunning landscapes. With its immense popularity and extraordinary beauty. The garden was booming with fresh, healthy and colorful flowers and its mountainous backdrop was breathtaking. The place was clean, and people were no longer picking flowers and stepping on stems, far from what I expected. At last, the park’s visitors have learned to respect and preserve the beauty of nature. But before you schedule a trip to this prismatic flower garden, Check their page first to let you know if the garden is showcasing its famous celosia flowers during your visit. Remember, there’s a time or seasons for seeding, harvesting, sowing and blooming for flowers. By just 50 pesos entrance fee (for Sirao PGC) and Php 100 (for Sirao Little Amsterdam) you can now enjoy the view, the fresh air mountain breeze that can never be found in the city.

After we adore the beauty of nature, Busay offered and served us a taste of ancient Greece, Temple of Leah. From its Greek-like statues to its gorgeous architecture, there’s no shortage of picture-perfect sights at Temple of Leah. This majestic edifice is an impressive Cebu tourist spot that inspires awe. As a matter of fact, you can spend an hour of more there just admiring its ornate design and gleaming interiors. As an added bonus, the place offers a gorgeous overlooking view of the busy and energetic metropolis. The temple was carved from the mountain side and had massive temple grounds overlooking the major cities down below Cebu and the sea. When we were there, construction is still underway. The temple adopts an ancient Roman and Greek architectural style complete with huge columns and statues of gods and goddesses. It's like being transported back in time. Since it is located and on the elevated land on Mt. Busay the atmosphere is mostly calm and cool. Entrance fee is cheap, priced at Php 50 from what I can remember. There's really nothing much to do there but to take tons and tons of photos or basically admire the view and enjoy the cool breeze.

Along the same small road, Roosevelt St. Brgy. Busay, just a little off the highway there is a nice place to have lunch or dinner while enjoying the view of the mountains and hills of Cebu, The Lantaw Busay. Prices are also pretty decent.

If you're a vegetarian either loves to eat fruits then don't forget to walk along the road by the time you pass Busay Holiday Pools and before you reach Ayala Heights, there are a number of small vegetable and fruit vendors that sell their product along the highway. Do make a quick stop and buy some of their product, especially the sweetcorn. They’re local famers so they sell their products at a very cheap price. You can get everything from root vegetables, bananas and mangoes, and sometimes even flowers.

To my way of thinking, Busay is a perfect place not only for a one-day visit but also for a long stay. If you need a break from the crowded subway or filthy city air, want to enjoy a scenic mountain view, with plenty of tourists spot in one place then Busay should be number one in your travel list!

The city of Cebu is the capital city of province of cebu and it is the "second city" of the philippines.
The filipinos by themselves are already an amaible and friendly lot, and cebuanos are different.

The most cherished memories I ever had is the day I came her in cebu. I experienced exploring different places like, we enjoy riding different kinds of rides in Snow World and Anjo World.
Took different kinds of nice pictures in mountain view. And the most unforgtable memory September 17, 2020 was one of the best day of my life. It was the day when we go to Jpark Resort. We go to the beach, running around to the white sand and swam to their crystal clear sea water. It was nice deeping in their cool swimming pool too and again we took different kinds of pictures there. It was my first tkme overnight to their hotel and enjoying the nice view up in their terrace.😊

I am the one who always try something newin search of happiness. My Intrinsic quality showed me the path of sharing some time with patient. The experienced introduced me to something strong. We didn't know that it will give us most unique feelings and unforgetable experience of pleasure moments of "true happiness".❤️😊

Malabuyoc: A Travel To Remember!

Gorgoni, Angelez Mae
12-HUMSS OSLO

All my life I never thought I could handle this trip. Sitting in the bus seat going to Malabuyoc I was just sitting then but a lot of good things happened in the trip. Malabuyoc here I come!

First of all before we travel, what is Malabuyoc? What are the beautiful places here? Their foods and culture. According to a popular story, once Malabuyoc grew plenty of fruit trees like mangoes, lanzones, cacaos, and others. The question has been answered so arat na!

Around six in the morning when we went to the bus station, there was a long line of passengers so you should eat before you go. We waited 30mins before getting on the bus and as we sat down a man approached us to ask for our payment. (I don't remember the exact money we paid but I think its only about 50 to 100 pesos, sorry hehe) Mama said that the trip to Malabuyoc was 4 hours! 4 HOURS?! yes! Seating on the bus sit for FOUR HOURS!

After a long trip we arrived at the church and some men approached us to ride their motorcycle (habal-habal) and we paid 150 pesos. Travel to barangay Cerdeña for 30mins. (I can only suggest that you do not ride a motorcycle because the road to Cerdeña is too dangerous)

We have finally arrived at our destination
I saw some pork meat hanging from their window at in some houses. (Actually a pig's head) It's a beautiful place that I want to stay here for the rest of my life. Their trees are beautiful and long. There are many chickens around that are not in the chicken coop. The air is so fresh that you can smell the leaves and that includes the buffalo dirt. (fresh japon)

The bad thing that happened there was we're going home the next day. Even if its raining when we arrived it was still worth it. I will never forget when I fell on the motorcycle and was injured but it was still worth it. I will be back there soon og dili na mo uli!
