On the 20th May I travelled to Melbourne to catch up with Charlie. He is doing well, now working at a mushroom farm and saving money. We had a couple of beers and something to eat. On the 14th May I travelled from Brisbane to Surfers Paradise in Gold Coast City. The weather was a little better (it wasn't raining). I am only here a couple of days but had a good look around. Definitely a holiday destination, there are lots of hotels along the sea front.

I travelled to Brisbane on the 8th May but the weather was not very good for the 5 days I was there not a great deal to report. I did walk round the city, went to the Queensland Museum and Science Centre, the State Library of Queensland, and Queensland Art Gallery and The Gallery of Modern Art. They are all located in an area called the Cultural Centre. I visited the Old Government House and the Brisbane Botanic Gardens.

I have been in Noosa for a few days. I think it is one of my favourite places so far, a bit like Airlie Beach with the shops and restaurants but more laid back like Hervey Bay. Also has lots of beaches and is far enough south that there are no problems with stingers (jellyfish) or crocodiles so is safe to swim.

I travelled from Airlie Beach to Hervey Bay on 25th April. Did a couple of day tours to the nearby islands including Fraser Island. I have put some captions on the pictures to say where they were taken. Again, the weather wasn’t great but it was still nice to visit these places.

I went on a 2-night sailing trip on the 25th that travelled round the Whitsunday Islands on a boat called the Adventurer. We did some snorkelling, paddle boarding and visited the beaches. Again the weather wasn't great but I enjoyed the trip and met some very nice people. Unfortunately because the the sea was quite rough due to the weather (especially on the first day when we were picked up) a couple of them were sea sick. This didn't dampen their spirits though.

There has been a gap in updates as there hasn't been an awful lot going on. I passed the Scuba open water divers course and can now scuba dive to 18 meters, I plan to book in some dives as I travel down the coast. I travelled to Airlie Beach on 21st April however the weather has not been very good and it has rained on and off since I arrived. Airlie is definitely a holiday town and by that, I mean there are lots of bars, cafe's, restaurants and clubs etc. but not a lot to do if you are trying to be careful with money and the sun isn't shining. I have done a walk to a lookout point and along the coast.

Travelled to Magnetic Island on 13th April. Walked a few trails down the east side of the island from Horseshoe bay (where I am staying) to Arcadia. Some really nice bays and beaches. There are quite a few families here, I think it is a holiday destination for locals and it is the Easter break here, like the UK.

On 9th April travelled to Mission Beach town which is actually 4 little villages connected together - Mission Beach, Wongaling, Mission South and Bingil Bay (where I am staying). The hostel is nice and peaceful (tucked away in rainforest) but quite remote so not much to do and there are no buses or trains as the town is so small. I have included a picture of the hostel and the surrounding area. I did walk to the Bicton Hill circuit track and hiked that. Saw a Cassowary (flightless bird) and giant lizard in the hostel.

On the 7th April went on a tour that included a walk in the Daintree Rainforest and a trip to Cape Tribulation. Cape Tribulation is where the rainforest meets the barrier reef, both being UNESCO world heritage sites. The tour also included a river cruise where we managed to see some crocodiles in the water. One was very young so quite small, I have highlighted them in the pictures to help you see them. It ended with a trip to Mossman Gorge.

On the first day we went to Uluru (previously Ayers Rock). We did the base walk which is around 7.5km. It was in the afternoon and quite warm but was special seeing it in real life after seeing it in so many photos. Got up the next morning (we were woken up at 4.30am on first 2 mornings!) to drive and catch the sunrise.

Flew to Ayers Rock airport on 28th for my 4 day camping trip in the outback. Met some great people and had a fun four days. We slept in something called a swag which is not even a tent, so really were under the stars. You can see them being rolled up in some of the pictures. We were driven around with all our luggage in the mini van between the camp sites and cultural sites we visited.

Arrived in Adelaide on 23rd March. Looked round the city on 24th, including museums and state library. On 25th I hiked the Mount Lofty summit and then to Cleland Wildlife Conservation Park and Waterfall Gully. Sometimes I'm not sure the pictures do it justice.

Charlie Cheal and I have now gone our separate ways, he is looking for work on the mainland I have flown to Tasmania. I arrived in Hobart in Tasmania on 17th March. Today (19th) I did a hike on some of the trails on Mount Wellington and reached the summit. Amazing views of Hobart and well worth the 4 hour up and down hike.

While in Las Vegas we went to Fremont street which is in Downtown Las Vegas, around 3 miles from the Strip. Despite having been to Vegas before I wasn't aware of this and we were advised to visit. It was loud, bright, and fun.

Whale watching on Thursday 10th Feb. Only got a brief glimpse of a whale in the distance but did have some dolphins swim alongside the boat.
