Racing update September.
Tim Lane had another energetic and head spinning month of racing competing
in multiple events, some at the National level. David Lane his Dad continued to enter almost every cycling event going! Marjorie Davison - a newcomer to Time Trialing significantly improved on her times on a basic road bike. Paul Brierley and David Taylor continued to put in very solid times in the TTs coming in faster than most of their peers of a similar age.

TT newbie Marjorie Davison continues to improve
over ten miles on a regular road bike - on Sun 12th Sept Marjorie entered
the Holmfirth CC TT on the V210 course near Dalton and despite
a week of sleep deprivation courtesy of her young daughter Marjorie
managed to reduce her time by 2mins and 4 seconds! to 30min 28sec.
The course start line was 5miles from the HQ on country lanes, but this actually made for a great warm up and cool down.
On Sat 26th Sept. Marjorie took part in her third and final 10 mile TT for this year. It was organised by the Harrogate Nova CC on the V212 course near Arkendale.
Despite having no time to do any training Marjorie managed to hold a better aero position and reduced her time on this course by a minute and a half to 31.02.
Marjorie is already planning winter training to come back even stronger in 2022!
Tim and David Lane, Angus Owens
Yomp Bonk Crit E/1/2/3, 4 August:
Getting racing going again at the Forge Valley Circuit were some of Tim Lane’s JRC Shutt Ridley team-mates together with the Yomp Bonk Crew; ( teenagers organizing races!). Racing for youths, ladies-only races plus a range of adult races brought events back to a slippy course. Due to a major early crash the E/1/2/3 was turned into a 20-lap mad dash to the finish. Tim Lane finished with the winner being Sean Flynn from Danish team SEG Racing Academy.
Yomp Bonk Crit E/1/2/3, 11 August:
Tim Lane rode of the second Yomp Bonk event, finishing 11th in the E/1/2/3 which was won by Irish rider Cavan Walker.
Scunthorpe track, 20 August:
Both David and Tim Lane raced on a chilly Friday, with Tim’s best result being 6th in the 10 lap points race and David’s being 6th in the 8 lap scratch.
No Nonsense Circuit Races 3/4 men’s, 21 August:
At what point is it ‘too old’ to ride a crit? Being old enough to be some of the riders’ grandparents David Lane took part in the add-on men’s race for the No Nonsense youth/women’s events held on the Hammerstones circuit in Elland along with Angus Owens. With a massive downpour just before the start making the track slippy Angus and the rest of the lead group promptly lapped David several times. The result? Angus finished 8th, David finished.
Bole Hill RR 2/3/4, 22 August:
On the hilly Bole Hill course Tim Lane finished 29th, but not placed due to an administrative error. With an early break stretching the field this made interesting, if challenging, racing for the 80+ starters.
Scunthorpe track, 27 August:
Just David Lane for this one, with both the A (fast) and B (slow) groups combined and visiting overseas riders his best result were 9th in the Block Handicap and 10 lap Points races.
National Junior TT, 11 September:
Held about as far south as it’s possible to go in the UK, that being near Bournemouth, the very lumpy course attracted mostly southern-based riders with Tim Lane the only one travelling from Yorkshire. Finishing 15th in a time of 24:52 (330w average) he used a road bike with aero clip-ons in an event that was as much about the machine choice as the rider due to a 2-mile climb at the start with very tight turns throughout.
Tim’s other results were DNF’s unfortunately; Tameside 2/3/4 on 31 July (caught behind a major crash), Seacroft 2/3/4 on 8 August (puncture), Cold Dark North 2/3/4 on 4 Sept (Covid jab), FTR Classic on 12 Sept (injury) where Angus Owens came 10th.
West Riding Track League, 9 August:
The final grasstrack league event for 2021 both David and Tim Lane took part. Tim won the Unknown Distance, was 2nd in the Elimination and 5th in the Sprint final. David got 7th in the Unknown Distance and finally some league points.
Scunthorpe track race, Quibell Park, 17 September:
David and Tim Lane were in the late-season combined A & B group track racing evening at Scunthorpe, finishing this week for 2022. With riders turning up in search of points to stay in their category or gain an upgrade it was a fast evening. Tim Lane got a 3rd/4th (Points), 5th (Scratch) and 8th (Handicap) with David getting 10th in a couple of those. Racing under floodlights meant a need to combine the groups but more races available. Cat & Fiddle hillclimb, Macclesfield, 18 September:
The hillclimb season has started, with competitors trying to gain results which will give entry into the national event on 29th October up Winnat’s Pass. Tim Lane decided that £8 to enter a 6-mile hillclimb was good value, Winning the Junior category in a time of 22:32.

Tim is doing the National Hill Climb at Winnat’s Pass and is then travelling to Ireland for the National Junior TT on 28th September and National Junior Road Race on 1st October.
