With the idea of converting people to Christianity, the Jesuits founded colleges and cities.
Those who accepted, joined together to build a mission, which, once established, set out on a journey to
other places for the same purpose.
The missions served as agencies of the Church and the State to spread the faith to the natives and also to appease them for State purposes, as time went by this mission was degraded due to new beliefs, migrations, new laws, among others.
It was rediscovered nearly two centuries after its abandonment, being declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1993.
And today it is one of the most popular tourist sites in Paraguay, thanks to its incredible history and its majestic structures that are full of art and culture.
