It's not even finished yet, but the Sagrada Família has already climbed to the top of the ladder of religious institutions. When the construction started, it was meant to be a church. Later, it was designated as a cathedral, until in 2010 Pope Benedict XVI declared it a basilica. Quite a progress, we shall say 🤩

👉Fun fact: the construction of Sagrada Família has been taking longer than that of the Great Pyramids.
The construction of the Sagrada Familia started in 1882 and is supposed to be finished in 2026 or 2028 for Gaudí’s centenary. This means that while the pyramids of Goza had taken 20 years to be built, the Sagrada Família will take between 144 and 146 years to be completed. 👀

When completed, La Sagrada Família will be tallest religious building in Europe.🤩
The central tower in the middle will be 170 meters high. Despite having a powerful height, Gaudí believed that nothing man-made should ever be higher than God’s work. It is no coincidence that the ultimate height will be one meter less than Montjuïc, the mountain in Barcelona, which is also the city’s highest point. ⛰
