When taking Zoom calls from the dining table we always get asked about the craft piece hanging from the ceiling that usually makes an appearance in the background.ββββββββ

They're called "chischiles" (funny/fake/faux chiles). They're actually a noisemaker for kids, usually given around the holiday season. They can also be a great decorative piece offering texture and color to the black/white motif running through the house.ββββββββ

We take inspiration from our surroundings. One of the owners of Casa Violeta spent about a week figuring out how to get the proper effect. It was a messy job, but totally worth it in the end. This room is in its own secluded nook with a view of sweeping banana tree leaves just outside the French doors. The effect brings those swaying, giant leaves right into the room. ββββββββ

Sunset never gets old in Nicaragua. Each day, we try to watch with a drink in hand (passion fruit margaritas our are preferred drink of choice) on the terrace with friends.
