So yesterday was a wash. Back to school shopping, housework and no day 3 countdown 🤦‍♀️. But 2 days left now!! And it’s all about Souvenir shopping. Below are the 5 places I really want to check out.

I can’t wait to check out the silver!

1. MARKET 28
The best place to buy souvenirs is in Market 28. This market reaches an entire city block in downtown Cancun, selling all kinds of artisan souvenirs and gifts. It is large and filled with vendors trying to get you to enter their stores. It can be a bit overwhelming if you aren’t used to such aggressive salespeople, but there are some bargains and unique Mexican handicrafts, silver jewelry, t-shirts, pottery, and traditional Mexican clothing to be found. In the center of the market, there is a “food court” with many restaurants that serve authentic Mexican food and seafood at economical prices.

2. CORAL NEGRO FLEA MARKET
The largest place to buy souvenirs would definitely be the Coral Negro Flea market. This market offers the whole package: brightly painted pottery, silver jewelry, traditional Mexican clothing, and much, much more. You’ll also come across places for piercings, tattoos, and braids. There is an excellent little restaurant, called Xtabentun, in the market on the lagoon side. Don’t forget to buy a bottle of of xtabentún. It’s an anise liqueur produced on the Yucatan Peninsula from anise seed and fermented honey from the nectar of xtabentún flowers.

3. LA ISLA SHOPPING VILLAGE
La Isla Shopping Village Cancun is the most visited mall and one of the largest outdoor malls in the hotel zone of Cancun. It has been inspired by the City of Venice. La Isla Shopping offers the best mix: local souvenirs, selections of handicrafts, international brands, excellent restaurants, a large aquarium, luxury boutiques, and a movie theater. You can also find duty free shops, ideal for low prices. Don’t forget to check the Ah Cacao where you can buy chocolate bars, chocolate-coated coffee beans, and cocoa powder. Chocolate was invented by the Mayans and their predecessors. As Cancun is the heart of the ancient Maya territory, is it the perfect place to try real chocolate.

4. PLAZA LAS AMERICAS
Plaza las Americas is a large shopping center located in Downtown Cancun, Avenida Tulum. It’s a place where locals do their shopping. Here you can find clothing, sports, jewelry, shoes, a nail salon, restaurants, and even a supermarket. There is a huge food court where you can eat some local food but you also have fast food options.

5. PLAZA LA FIESTA
Plaza la Fiesta would be the only place where bargaining isn’t possible. The prices are already set. The store has a lot of high-quality options. Plaza La Fiesta is located across the street from the Convention Center, near the Coral Negro Market. Here you can find jewelry, leather goods, silver, and much more.

Cancun is a vacation destination that boasts world class resorts and dining, wide white sand beaches and the aqua blue Caribbean Sea, but Cancun may be best known for its outstanding and often outrageous nightlife. And the party don't stop 'til the sun comes up, even though I won’t be hanging that long 😬 .

Here are some of the top nightlife destinations…

1. Grande Mambo Cafe

Grand Mambo Cafe is the number one spot to dance Salsa, Merengue and Bachata in Cancun. Located downtown in Plaza Hong Kong, Mambo Cafe features live music Wednesday through Saturday. Open bar is available on Thursdays. If you're celebrating a birthday and make a reservation on a Friday, they will give you a free bottle of rum, vodka or tequila if 10 of your friends pay cover. On Saturdays if you reserve a table for 15 people you'll get a free bottle of Captain Morgan or Smirnoff. Bottle service will get you a front row seat right next to the dance floor. There is live music every night and the party doesn't end until about 4 am.

2. La Vaquita

La Vaquita (The Little Cow) is one of Cancun's newest nightclubs. It sits smack in the middle of Cancun's Party Center at kilometer 9 of Boulevard Kukulcan. This casual open-air bar/nightclub is decorated in red, black and of course, cow print. Sexy go-go dancers abound. Visitors can pay a cover charge and purchase individual drinks or go for the open bar option. The club sells "litros" or liters of beer and other drinks, which is a very popular trend in Cancun. You can also find La Vaquita in Playa del Carmen and Puerto Vallarta.

3. Señor Frogs

The name Senor Frog's is synonymous with fun. This bar and restaurant has sawdust on the floor so you don't have to worry about your children making a mess. Kids can order "virgin" versions of the famous drinks in yard glasses that people love to take home as souvenirs. Around 9 pm this family-friendly restaurant turns bar/nightclub. The lively staff always makes sure everyone has a blast. Conga lines, balloons, confetti and craziness are the norm here. Senor Frogs know how to throw a party. They feature a glow party, foam party, reggae night, and have a Latin night with a live band.

4. Congo Bongo

Cancun's most famous night club, Coco Bongo, has been featured on many travel programs. Throughout the evening, a variety of performers put on shows. On any given evening at the club, Beetlejuice makes an appearance, Spiderman flies through the air, acrobats perform high above the crowd and a Michael Jackson impersonator lip-syncs MJ's classic songs. The bartenders and wait staff even take the stage to sing and dance throughout the night. When you feel your feet start to move, don't bother looking for the dance floor because there isn't one. People just dance wherever they can find a little space.

5. Mandala

This beautiful medium-sized club is one of the most popular nightclubs in Cancun and is located right between The City and Coco Bongo in the Party Zone. The Indian-inspired decor, which features rich, vibrant colors & lush fabrics instantly informs you that you are in an upscale lounge, rather than a hokey run-of-the-mill nightclub. Mandala feels like the nicest, most ornate VIP room you've ever seen... only it's an entire club. The fact that the front of the club is entirely open to the street adds to the ambiance. This is one of Cancun's hippest and hottest clubs and it's been extremely popular since it opened.

One of the reasons I wanted to start the travel business was so that I could travel more myself. There are so many things I want to do but haven’t.

🤿 Snorkeling is one of them, even thought about getting my dive certificate.

Here are 5 that I found in Cancun that I thought would be interesting.

Have you been Snorkeling? How was it? Advice for a newbie?

1. Punta Nizuc

The Cancun snorkel area called Punta Nizuc is located at the southern tip of the island and is the closest offshore reef from the Cancun Hotel Zone. This reef area is home to turtles, starfish, lobsters and many other critters that live among the coral and algae.

2. Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres is still a fishing island that receives flocks of tourists daily. The island village is only 5 miles long and half a mile wide, so you can explore it in a day. The reef named Manchones lies just off the coast, as do other impressive sites where you can snorkel in Isla Mujeres’ peaceful waters.

It’s very common to observe sea turtles when snorkeling in Isla Mujeres, so it’s a good idea to bring an underwater camera.

3. The Cancun Underwater Museum: MUSA

The Underwater Museum of Cancun is divided into two sections and consists of more than 470 life-sized sculptures. The underwater statues were gradually submerged since 2009 in Manchones Reef which hosts the Silent Evolution statue collection. The Cancun museum is an eco-project designed to give a well-earned break to the natural reef and to provide habitat for fish and other reef creatures.

Punta Nizuc houses 17 of Jason DeCaires Taylor’s statues, which are part of the second ‘hall’ of the underwater sculpture museum. This project has generated worldwide interest and definitely worth a snorkeling visit when planning your Cancun vacation.

4. The Island of Cozumel

Just a short stop from Cancun, you can enjoy snorkeling in Cozumel. This has been a favorite activity among tourists for years. The coral formations in the shallow waters are diverse and vibrantly colorful.

The reefs of Cozumel stretch along the coast of the island, providing a home for brightly colored tropical fish and pristine natural gardens. If you’re looking for a day trip to Cozumel, AquaWorld provides a tour from Cancun that includes transportation, lunch and snorkeling.

5. Swim With Whale Sharks in Cancun

Especially relevant, one of the most popular seasonal activities is snorkeling with whale sharks in Cancun from June until August (sometimes even mid-September). That’s when these majestic creatures come to feed themselves around the neighboring islands of Contoy and Holbox and Cancun Snorkeling

Imagine swimming with a creature that’s bigger than you! These gentle giants of the sea are completely harmless and AquaWorld offers a snorkel tour that allows you to swim with them. You simply must experience snorkeling during the whale sharks’ impressive yearly journey to the Mexican Caribbean!

One more week!!! Day 7 today. Let’s talk food!! Even though we will be in an All Inclusive…We will have to check out some local cuisine. I’m highlighting just a few below.

1. Casitas • $$$$

Beachfront fine dining at The Ritz with a sumptuous menu of grilled fresh seafood and tender steaks. The romantic ambiance is most profound in their signature private casitas directly on the beach, wrapped in sheer veils with softly illuminated tabletops, though they also have tables on a nearby terrace. Reservations are required for the beachfront casitas and there is a surcharge, but it is entirely worth it, especially for special occasions. Reservations are recommended for terrace seating.

2. La Fonda del Zancudo • $$-$$$

Atmospheric dining in an old abandoned house, serving gorgeous, Mediterranean-inspired dishes using fresh, local, organic ingredients, some grown onsite in their tiny garden. They also have a chalkboard menu with daily specials, with a lot of variety, especially for seafood and veggie dishes. Seating is in an open courtyard surrounded by crumbling stucco walls with dramatic vines climbing up the sides and fairy lights strung through the trees. Reservations are not required for small groups, but larger tables may want to reach out via Facebook; they answer very promptly. This Downtown restaurant is open for dinner only.

3. Les Cepages • $$$$

Contemporary, French cuisine in an elegant setting with rich flavors, exquisite presentation, and fantastic wines. The restaurant is helmed by the amiable and talented Chef Sal Luna, who makes sure to personally greet all guests he’s cooking for and to answer any questions or make suggestions, even going off-menu. Table service is always warm, attentive, and personal. Les Cepages is located in Downtown and is open for lunch and dinner.

4. La Habichuela • $$$$

Flavorful Mexican-Caribbean restaurant, famous for its unique recipes featuring delicious seafood and beef and its tropical garden vibe. Decorated with Maya statues, dense palm fronds, and strings of lights, the garden patio is the preferred spot for dining. Save room for dessert and order a Mayan coffee to end the night; it comes with a fun tableside fire show. There are two locations, but you definitely need to visit the original one in Downtown, open since 1977, to experience the true Cancun spirit.

5. Surfin’ Burrito • $

This well-loved hole-in-the-wall has a full menu of California-style comfort food, like coconut shrimp, fish tacos, and ceviche. But they are best known for their massive mahi-shrimp burritos, loaded with grilled veggies, beans, and rice; topped with tamarind and habanero sauce, recently featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Go easy on the drinks here; the cocktails are bigger than your head, ice-cold, and strong. Seating is limited to three high-top tables and assorted bar stools, so waiting for a table can take a while; food and cocktails are all available to-go, and they deliver from 8:00 a.m. until midnight. The restaurant is in the middle of the Hotel Zone, near the nightlife and open 24 hours.

📣9 more days📣. Let’s talk shopping. Yasss beach!! Do you shop on vacation??

1. Paseo Del Carmen

Located near the ferry pier, this upscale, open-air colonial mall is a favorite with locals and visitors alike.

A cobblestone path leads past a number of U.S. brands and boutiques such as American Apparel and Diesel. AND there’s a Starbucks!!

2. Casilda Mut

Fashionistas will be quick to snap up this new home-grown line that works to support creative and social development for the women of highland Chiapas. Each garment—often a combination of chiffon and linen—is hand-sewn; styles range from crisp and professional to blissfully free, empowering all women whatever their day-to-day activities. — This is right up my Alley 😘

3. Mercado Coral Negro

For traditional Mexican handicrafts, Mercado Coral Negro is the easiest place to find all your wares. Here you can purchase jewelry, mayan relics, and unique creations from all over the region. The most beautiful items are the embroidered garments created from local cotton and dyed using traditional methods.

4. La Troupe Tulum

The more we know about the dark side of “fast fashion,” the more we love fair trade; do your part to support and spread the word. Tulum’s finest examples include La Troupe, a showcase for handcrafted fashions and home décor that reflect the imagination of their unique creators. Look for gorgeous textiles, often embroidered, now applied to extraordinary fashion and design. Everything is produced in local Maya communities. Feminine and stunning, these are treasures at a fair price for fair trade.

5. Hacienda Tequila

And last…but not least. Tequila!!🥃

Located on the second floor of Kukulcán Plaza, Hacienda Tequila sells 480 different types of tequila at some of the best prices in the area.

Free samplings are welcome, and a small museum highlights the making of tequila. Kitschy Mexican crafts and souvenirs are an added touch.

🏝10 days til Cancun!! I’ve been researching the beaches. There are so many!!! Here is what I’ve gathered so far on just a few.

⁉️I’d love to hear what y’all think if you’ve been!

1. Playa Norte

Playa Norte, known for its string of hotels and energetic beach restaurants.

Endless string of beach hangouts have rentable lounge chairs, umbrellas, and menus serving delicious beach cuisine.

Stroll the pedestrian streets not far from the beach for endless souvenir stalls, or rent a golf cart for the day to go explore the rest of the island.

2. Playa Paraiso

Absent of high-rise hotels, Playa Paraiso in Tulum is often said to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, not to mention one of the best beaches in Cancun. The beach is long and seemingly endless, giving visitors the impression that, despite its popularity, they are one of the few there.

Playa Paraiso is a place to see and be seen, as it's popular among well-heeled travelers, Instagram influencers, and celebrities from around the world.

3. Playa Forum

If you're looking for the best beaches in Cancun that are in the heart of the action, look no further than Playa Forum, otherwise known as Play Gaviota Azul. Located smack dab in Cancun's Hotel Zone Beach strip, this stretch of powder-soft sand is within steps from the pulsing heartbeat of Cancun's tourist zone.

4. Playa Morelos

When the crowds of Cancún become too much, take a 35-minute drive south to reach the quiet fishing village of Puerto Morelos. It has a much calmer pace. With groomed beaches, friendly locals and a cozy small-town vibe, you’ll never have to worry about being hassled at the beach by timeshare salesmen. One of the most notable parts of this area is the Mesoamerican coral reef that is popular with snorkelers and divers.

5. Playa Chac Mool

Playa Chac Mool is perfect for beach lovers who enjoy splashing about in and on top of the calm turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. Here, water sports and other activities are widely available.

6. Playa Delfines

Playa Delfines is Cancun's largest, most popular, and arguably most beautiful public beach. Picture blindingly bleached sand backed by the most electric blue water. Along the sand, you'll find umbrellas for rent, thatched palapas, and restrooms.

You may also hear Playa Delfines known as El Mirador because it has a hilltop deck that overlooks the waves and surrounding area. Note the colorful Cancun sign, which is always a favorite for Instagram shots. Playa Delfines is near the Hotel Zone, as well, so you'll have a nice mix of resort guests and locals.
