last night our home experienced a structure fire, starting accidentally as a grease fire while cooking on the stovetop in the kitchen . luckily, our renters at the time reacted very quickly using an extinguisher & contacting 911 - and happily we can say everyone is safe and unharmed. the home, however, experienced damage that we are assessing now. if you are one of our guests planned in the next few weeks, we will be in touch in the next couple of days if any changes may need to be made to your booking. we need to wait for the insurance company to assess, so we may not know more until tomorrow. thank you for your understanding as we determine what needs to be done.

One of the few positives of the last two years has been the rise of remote working. When we purchased and renovated our home in 2020, we were able to spend so much more time there than we previously could have. Making that a reality of course meant having strong WiFi! Allowing our guests to have the same flexibility is something we feel very strongly about, and that’s why tools like the new WiFi speed test on are so exciting. Hosts can now test their homes WiFi, and share the results with potential guests so they can make sure the listing meets their stay needs - whether that’s working on a client presentation or streaming the newest season of their favorite show. today marks one year since the listing went live on . time went so fast ! we are so happy with the response to our home, and so grateful that we have had a year of morning light, fall leaves, winter snowstorms, game nights, and evenings by the fire pit to enjoy ourselves - and to share with others. here’s to many more happy stays for our guests ! one of the things that drew us to was the variety of amenities and local attractions - regardless of season. beyond the local ski slopes ( & ), water parks ( ), and much more - the community itself has two lakes for canoeing, SUP’ing, swimming , fishing and endless lounging on the beach.

it’s an indoor day for sure. luckily the house is stocked for that- plenty of books, records, and games for your use 📷

over the last year a lot of people have newly become hosts. although we (just barely) closed before the pandemic rattle...

over the last year a lot of people have newly become hosts. although we (just barely) closed before the pandemic rattled our way of life, we too are very new to the life.
•
we listed our home August 31,2020, and held our breath to see if what we had made would resonate with others. was the design too personal ? were the couches too white ? do other people like stemless wine glasses ?
•
our first ever guests arrived September 5,2020 (hi Jassemine !), and although there have been some minor bumps over the last few months it’s been a journey we wouldn’t trade for anything.
•
the biggest surprise of being an has been the community. when you start hosting on , you join a community, and it is amazing how everyone really makes an effort to help each other out. from sharing our early posts, to sharing contractor and cleaning crew suggestions as we prepped for launch, we’ve really lucked out in our local area. we’ve had a network to call upon when we needed a quick bottle of champagne for a surprise engagement, or a recommendation of who has the best plow rates. and now we have entered the next phase, where our guests are becoming hosts themselves (welcome to the neighborhood .pines.poconos !)

welcome to our home, it is now your home.
•
when you decide to host on , it’s a lot like leaving your kids with the babysitter for the first time ever. all of the rumors of house parties, disasters, damages. the first few check-in’s you have a death grip on your phone. will the lockbox get stuck ? will the guests forget to turn off the oven ? what happens if there is a mouse ?!? and for some, the biggest question of all: will I get bad reviews if my house isn’t perfect ?
•
to be a good host, is to care. to be a is to care ALOT. and the truth is, guests can see that. whether it is a small gift at check-in, or the super soft towels that you specially selected, or your check in with them over the weekend. our guests have been generally wonderful: caring,communicative, and conscientious that when they open that front sliding door (that sticks sometimes, and isn’t perfect), our home becomes theirs. theirs to enjoy for the weekend, or the week - with their friends, or their families. and bad reviews may happen, everyone has a bad day at some point - but mostly it is about how you handle when the unexpected occurs.how you show your guests that you are their host, and that you care.

one of the most difficult things to know how to properly deal with as an host is what falls outside of the frame in your photos •••neighbors•••maybe they are in phase 300 of a never ending renovation, or like to collect broken cars. maybe they have a barking dog, or like to sunbathe n**e. (these are not descriptions of our actual neighbors !! haha !) whatever the case may be, neighbors are typically out of your control as a host - but definitely open to feedback from guests and can certainly have an effect on their experiences. our guests privacy is of utmost concern at our home, so we have planted just over a dozen trees and built a privacy panel fence - but is it enough ? this is a constantly evolving conversation for us, and I am sure for many other hosts as well. would love to hear some feedback and tips on this
