19/03/2023

On Friday 24th of March, with the guidance of Deirdre Hannon, we will be planting 33 Hazel Trees and 1 Silver Birch in the ancient Celtic Triskele design at Bluebell lane - the Triskele is carved on the entrance stone of 5,000 year Newgrange.
The one continuous line of the Triskele stands for Unity and oneness of Spirit.
The Hazel, an ancient native tree, is associated with knowledge and Peace.

‘Peace on this land, on this Island, will come, when Hazels are abundant once more, peace on all levels, peace of mind, peace and stillness within thy heart’.

This project is about giving back to the land. Acknowledging the sacredness held within.
This is Land Art that incorporates our native ancient hazel & ancient Celtic Triskele symbol.

We welcome anyone who would like to come along and help us plant our Hazel and join us to celebrate this walking meditation installation beneath the watchful eye of Slieve Gullion.
Starting at 2pm

While we're all very excited that Santa himself has been visiting Creggan Farm, Home & Garden Supplies to hear what the kids of South Armagh want for Christmas, even the man himself needs somewhere to stay when he's here (you couldn't be commuting every day, what with the price of magic flying sled fuel.)
So we're delighted to say that Santa has been staying with us, kicking his boots off and relaxing with a good mug of tay every evening in Granny Aggie's Kitchen.
He says he loves the peace and quiet up here because he needs to concentrate. Apparently he's writing a big list, and checking it twice!!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! We've noticed a lot of visitors coming to Granny Aggie's and Uncle Owenie's for shopping days away.
And why wouldn't they? We're just 15 minutes from Newry and less than an hour from Belfast, where you can do your shopping in the bright lights but then end your day in peace, away from the hustle and bustle.

Do you fancy some inspiration with your relaxation?
Then the is the place for your derrière.
Ponder the complexities of existence in the Granny Aggie's and Uncle Owenie's garden or simply let them breeze by you while you take in the surrounding South Armagh countryside.
However you prefer to reach your Eureka moment, this is the place to do it.
Penny for your thoughts?

The Fairy Folk Cottage

The South Armagh countryside is dotted with fairy forts, rings and trees. It's said that at dawn and dusk, if you're very lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the fairies dancing. But be careful not to touch any fairy forts you might come across, for they're mischievous folk and they'll make your misery their business.
We certainly wouldn't want to upset them, so in addition to Granny Aggie's Parlour, Uncle Owenie's Cottage and Granda Pat's Loft, we're pleased to unveil The Fairy Folk Cottage, for our more magical guests.
Granda Pat would often tell stories of the fairies and as children would warn us gravely not to mess with them, so we've put the cottage under Grand Pat's Loft. He'll look after them.
Will you catch a glimpse of the fairies when you visit?

We're over the moon with these birds eye views of Uncle Owenie's and Granny Aggie's.
And what a weekend to take them! It feels like the sun came out for the first time in six months this week so it was clear skies and sunshine.
It has us looking forward to welcoming guests to South Armagh this summer.
Thanks to Patrick McKeever for these wonderful pics.

The summer may be over but you can still sit out and enjoy the views at Granny Aggie's and Uncle Owenie's. We've been hard at it this week and we're delighted to unveil the new roofing to our garden deck.
There's nothing nicer than listening to the pitter patter of the rain while you breathe in the sensational (but often soggy) South Armagh.

Uncle Owenie's and Granny Aggie's sit in the heart of historic South Armagh, surrounded by some of the finest preserved examples of ancient history in the country.
One of the many magnificent neolithic sites in the area you can visit is the Ballymacdermot burial cairn.
At more than 5500 years old, the ancient tomb sits just past Slieve Gullion and in addition to being a fascinating piece of living history boasts some stunning views of the surrounding countryside and the Ring of Gullion.

It's always fantastic to see local politicians supporting local businesses. We were delighted to show Vice chair of Newry Mourne and Down (and Gullion) Council Oonagh Magennis, as well as local councillor Aoife Finnegan and Finance Minister Conor Murphy around Uncle Owenie's Cottage and Granny Aggie's Kitchen.
If we all work together we can beat this thing and rebuild a vibrant, stable and sustainable economy.

I just caught sight of this huge hawk or buzzard perched on a tree just down the road from Uncle Owenie's and Granny Aggie's. It's took off before I could get my phone out and within seconds it was this far away.
South Armagh is home to some fantastic wildlife but in particular I love our birds of prey. A huge barn owl is even known to visit the tree's outside Uncle Owenie's

Just a 15 minute walk from Uncle Owenie's and Granny Aggie's will take you to the historic Creggan church and graveyard, a listed historical building going back to at least the 17th century.
The graveyard is the resting place of a number of historical figures including the famous poet Art Mac Cumhaigh and the tomb of the O'Niell Clan.
But those aren't the only local secrets it hides.
Just behind the church a narrow gate will take you to a winding set of steps where you'll descend to the banks of the River Creggan and one of the areas many hidden beauty spots.

Ten minutes drive from Uncle Owenie's and Granny Aggie's is Slieve Gullion, one of the most magical places in Ireland.
As well as being an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it is steeped in the ancient tales of Cú Chulainn and Na Fianna.
One of the oldest burial cairns in Europe is at the peak of the mountain, and you can still take a walk inside it, while another short trek across the top of the mountain will take you to the mystical lake where Cú Chulainn almost met his doom.
Not that it stopped these eejits jumping in for a dip!

Benny looking for Lough Ross. He probably fancies a dip on a hot day.

Here's a few of the latest addition to Uncle Owenie's and Granny Aggie's, including a vintage potatoe digger and butter churn as well the sun deck's new fireplace.

Were delighted to be back open for weekend bookings.
