CAPO D’ORLANDO❤️
About 10 km from Brolo is the town of Capo d 'Orlando. We took a bus there and returned on foot. It was a beautiful walk around the magical beaches, the port from where you can take a boat to the nearby Aeolian Islands. On the way we bathed, in a pub at the crossroads, where you can go to the mountains, we strengthened ourselves with local lemon liqueur, in an abandoned garden we picked vegetables for dinner and pleasantly tired we returned to our house under the castle in the dark

A city that immediately caught my heart and I know I will return here. I found a small house in the street below the castle. With amazing neighbors, a short walk from the sea. Neighbors sitting in front of the house talking are asking how you are, where you have been and what you are planning today. And the saleswoman greets you in the store and talks to you. One feels that one belongs here. And the house? Just like once on vacation with Grandma.

Warm day, but under a cloud.
So we went by train to the village of Tusa (25 min. From Cefalù, direction Messina) for a trip.
Quiet silence and peace. Only the two of us were walking through the alleys
Only the two of us also bathed in the sea
We came to the castle, but it was closed
It's after the season, which this year wasn't really ... 😔

I got to this town by accident. The evening before I arrived, they wrote to me from a nearby town, where I had a reservation, that there was an accident with water and I was quickly looking for another, cheap option next to the airport. This old house hasn't had any reviews yet, so I gave it a chance
I am the first guest and the owner Lorenzo is very nice and helpful. He picked me up at the station by car and took a tour of the center to show me what might interest me.
We agree that as an experienced traveler I will give him extra personal feedback, which should improve his accommodation ubyt
The city has a really good strategic location near Palermo Airport, it is clean and has a beautiful Magaggiari beach with turquoise water, where you can also dive and watch the underwater world❤️
In the city, on the recommendation of Lorenzo, I tasted excellent coffee and Sicilian cannoli dessert at the Palazzo patisserie, and for dinner I recommended the Vitina Cucina e Pizza restaurant, where I ate really well👌
Overall impression of the town 1 *👍🥰

My first steps in Cinisi led here ...

Peppino Impostato and his murder

Peppino was born into a family where his father and his relatives belonged to the mafia.
But he disagreed with their mafia practices and fought hard against them. As a journalist, writer, but mainly a politician.
9 months before his murder, his father was probably murdered. It was like a car accident, but the culprit of the accident immediately disappeared into the United States.
Peppino ran for the local council and wanted to make order with the mafia.
This became fatal for him in 1978.
An explosive was attached to his body and his body placed on rails.
At first, the police thought it was intentional damage to the railroad or su***de.
His friends did not accept this, but especially his brother Giovanni and his mother Felicia (she immediately cut off all contact with her husband's family)
In 2000, the perpetrator was finally charged and in 2002 sentenced to life imprisonment.
In his hometown is a small museum with a memory of Peppin, cared for by his brother Giovanni and young volunteers. There was Evelyn there today, who answered my curious questions with quite decent English. And she also told me that Lorenzo, who rented me a small Sicilian house, was actually an actor and played Peppin as a child in a film about Peppin. And Lorenzo's father was Peppin's good friend.
When asked if there was a mafia in the city, Evelyn answered that yes, she just can't see her ...
They are rich people who are spreading all over Italy ... She has not revealed more.

House:

The house of Peppino Impastato, a young rebel, killed by the Mafia in Cinisi (Palermo) in 1978, is a symbolic place where his mother, Felicia, has continued to live after her son’s murder.

A house-museum to remember Peppino’s sufferings and commitment in the fight against the Mafia as part of a family which, for many years, had been subjugated by the organized crime.

Felicia’s marriage to Luigi Impastato, marks her entry in a Mafia family and, at the same time, her sad fate that, after the tragic loss of her son, will make her rebel against the code of silence, by opening the doors of this house and telling anyone who would listen her story and the one of her son, killed by the Mafia.

This place recounts all about Peppino and his battle for legality and justice.

An amazing walk through the ancient narrow streets, where I hardly met a living soul ..
