Each week we will be suggesting a walk around North Lincolnshire for our Walk Wednesdays!

Barton Waters' Edge Visitor Centre & Country Park walk 📍

START: Waters Edge Car park. Turn off the A1077 into Barton upon Humber.
Follow the road signs to the Humber Bridge viewing area or to Waters
Edge. This follows a one way system leaving Castledyke West and
turning left into waterside Road opposite the Railway Station. Turn right
into Maltkiln Road and follow it round past Tesco’s Supermarket to the
road end where there is large car park on the left. DN18 5JR.
TIME: Between 1 hour and 1½ hours depending on how often you stop to watch
the wildlife and general views (3 Miles.)
ROUTE:
1. Head north to a wooden bridge which bends round to the right
and follow the path which is parallel to the embankment on
your left.
2. At the T junction of paths, turn left on a path which rises on to the
river embankment and turn right to follow the embankment.
3. After the tile works, turn right at a ramp leading down to a track
which runs adjacent to the Sailing club..
4. Turn right into Pasture Road North, which is initially a rough lane
and then tarmac. The road bends to the left, and keep your eyes
open for a large metal turnstile on your right.
5. Enter the nature reserve and follow the gravel path through small
lakes and reed beds until you reach a path junction. Ahead is a
hide on your right and the river embankment. Turn left and follow
the gravel path past small lakes, past a hide on your left until you
cross a footbridge.
6. Soon after the footbridge, another gravel path turns left, this is a
pleasant loop passing scrubland on your right, ignore the path on
the right and cross a footbridge. The gravel path leads between
lakes and around with a metal fence on your left, the path meets a
T junction and to the left is another large metal turnstile. This is
the exit to the reserve. Go through and to the right and across the
road is the car park.

Finally, I managed to put up one of the new gates at the weekend! Made by a local gentleman in Barton-upon-Humber. Love the fleur-de-lys hinges I found to match the front door too! 🖤🤍🖤🌿🌳

In the midst of the social media blackout yesterday, I received an email from Airbnb saying I had been awarded the ‘Superhost’ status in my first quarter of hosting! 🎉🎉🎉
I really appreciate all the lovely comments I have had from guests about the house, decor and the welcome families get when staying.
Thank you to everyone that has chosen to stay at the cottage and supported the start up!

It’s been a busy summer at Brightside Cottage so far and thank you so much to all of my guests who have made bookings and to everyone who has liked and shared posts!
I have a few dates left in the school holidays if anyone is looking for a last minute break...
Check in Tuesday 24th August for 3 nights (Tues-Thurs, check out Friday 27th morning).

Check in from Wednesday 1st September onwards.
From £75 per night based on 2 sharing.

FANCY A BREAK NEXT WEEKEND?

I have an opening over next weekend (from Friday 18th June or possibly before) for a short break booking at Brightside Cottage.

Early bird current prices in June for a two night stay are £120 based upon 2 sharing, £140 for 4 people. Please contact me for 3 or 5 people or more nights.
The cottage can currently accommodate up to three adults and 2 children (in the bunk beds!).

Since opening 3 weeks ago I have had three families booked in who have enjoyed their stays! Reviews can be found on the ‘Community’ section of this page.

I will soon be needing to advertise via other companies, which will mean these ‘early bird prices’ will increase due to the associated advertising fees on Air bnb so please do contact me if you are interested in a weekly summer holiday booking! Prices start from £500 based upon 2 adults for 7 nights during the school holidays at the end of July into August. (Additional charge for up to 5 occupancy).

Thank you so much to all of you who have liked, shared, made enquiries for booking and booked Brightside Cottage so far! Your support with my business venture is very much appreciated.

I have bookings for the next couple of weekends so the cottage is now free from Monday 14th June.
Prices for the remainder of June until Friday 23rd July are currently:
£60 per night based on 2 people, £70 3-4 people, £79 5-6 people.

During the school holidays I am taking bookings for the week, Saturday pm check-in to Saturday am check-out.
Prices are: £500 for 7 nights for 2 people, £540 for 3-4 people and £570 for 5-6 people.

I have available weeks starting:
Saturday 24th July
Saturday 21st August
Saturday 28th August

Price includes gas, water, electric, Wi-Fi and Netflix. Please note I do not have a TV aerial or license so only have streaming services. Parking available (free).

Last night’s peaceful walk by the cottage heading East along the Humber Viking Way long distance walkway to Pebbly Beach.
It’s a little spot about a mile away.
Passed my neighbours the swans at Far Ings nature reserve too. 🦢
I really do love it here in Barton-upon-Humber! 🧡💛😍🌅

We visited our neighbours at the EcoSerenity Project CIC - Barton Community Farm open day and came across the beautiful work of Sugarfoot Traditional Canal Decoration and Barton’s very own talented artist! So I bought this beautiful planter as a present for Brightside Cottage! 😍🌺🌸🌿

Hi Everyone,
Thank you for your interest in Brightside Cottage! The family who had booked for this weekend are having to change dates due their child’s class being sent home to isolate! So... the cottage is available Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th May if anyone is interested in taking a last minute trip for a get-away to Barton-upon-Humber and the North Lincolnshire coast!
Last minute deal prices! Total £100 for 2, £120 for 3/4, £140 for 5/6 for 2 nights.
* 1 x double room, 1 x bunk beds, 1 x single and pull out bed please see pictures.

Bedroom 3- Japanese theme.
I’m so excited to be welcoming my first guests for the Bank Holiday weekend! I want everything to be perfect so I’ve been very busy finishing off bedroom 3 this weekend. Those of you who know me will know I love Japan so when I saw a pair of mirrors with a Japanese design on I bought them to decorate the rooms around. Luckily after a bit of searching I found a matching wallpaper. Thank goodness for Google! Thanks also to my friends Liz and Steve for the now framed Christmas card too. The Japanese geisha fan was in a ‘lucky dip’ bag of gifts I bought in a Tokyo department store almost 20 years ago. ‘Before’ photos too! ☺️🇯🇵❤️

First ever tiling job (finally) complete 🎉🎉.
I wanted something to fit the era of the cottage so decided on Victorian industrial style tiles, inspired by the designs on the London Underground. Complete with underground travel advertisement art (Visit Kew, Maxwell Ashby Armfield, 1915) and one of the things I am most excited about putting up in the house, the fancy Victorian style ‘sanitary paper’ holder! 🛀 🧻

Finally just got to visit the Ropewalk, a gallery minutes from the cottage, full of gorgeous jewellery, arts and craft works by British artists. I’ve been waiting to visit here for months so I’m really happy it’s now open again.

The main bedroom at Brightside Cottage... spot the Victorian style artwork as a nod to a band I love! Also very happy with the gorgeous antique wardrobe I picked up in Huddersfield too 😍
This house is named after and decorated with musical references. It’s been a labour of love that I hope reflects my passions in life; music, art and beautiful old things! 🎵🖌❤️

Busy couple of days working on fireplace renovations, bathroom tiling and today masonry and door painting! Making the most of the sunshine in Barton-upon-Humber to freshen up the paint on the lower part of the cottage and repainted the door ironmongery. 🖌🖤🤍🚪🌸🌺☀️
