We’ve been quiet on here but there is still work going on … currently Martech are supporting the pontoon upgrades at the Public Jetty by providing a work platform.

Dean has been at the helm while Paul is in Punta Arenas coaching and assisting the Falkland Islands ice hockey teams competing in the Southern Winter Cup.

The Martech team have been busy moving containers, sorting cargo and all sorts of small jobs as well as catching up on admin over the last week or so. But today, in thick mist, it was back to boat work to get yacht Kotick alongside with the help of Jason, Dylan and Marilou on the Beagle.

With Translated9 now safely off the start blocks in Leg 4 of the Ocean Globe Race we thought we’d look back at 6 years ago when the Falklands again came together to put Vestas’ 11th Hour Racing back together and on their way. The Islands rock!

Incidentally the jury rig now sits as a little monument in Italia, Brazil.

It really doesn't feel like two weeks since we heard that were headed to the Falkland Islands for repairs. But how excited we were to be able to wave them off today in better shape than they arrived. Martech Falklands would like to thank everyone who supplied us and the yacht with kit, tools, services and time needed to get the repairs done. There are many individuals but we specifically send a shout out to Atlink Ltd, SAAS Ltd and their team, the Captain and crew of the Scout, Steve Cartwright, Ian Bury, Rocky & all at Neil McKay Ltd and Sulivan Shipping Services Ltd.

With the combined efforts Translated9 should be able to rejoin the race for Leg 4 - Punta del Este to Southampton.

Another fine example of the Falklands coming together :)

So that's a wrap! Good luck on your journey, it's been a pleasure.

This week as mostly been all about welcoming, supporting, providing logistical advice, manufacturing and finding local fixes for yacht and their hull repairs. There is still a monumental amount of work to go but we are keeping everything crossed that this young crew see the start line in time for Leg 4. And it felt like the end of the film crew fixer season too as we packed the last of ‘s kit off northbound.

Fabulous to see Translated9 happy in the Falkland Islands despite the circumstances. As always the Falklands maritime and construction/fabrication industry are proving resourceful and helpful ... not sure we have stretched to laying on the Southern Lights especially for the occasion but it looks good!

Nice to meet you Marco Trombetti and we hope you are reunited with your boat and crew soon on the start line of Leg 4.

12/02/2024

Delighted to be supporting Translated9 with their stop in the Falkland Islands. May the force be with them!

⛵️Update from the Falklands. Safety first. It was wise to head towards the Falklands to ensure the safety of the crew and the boat. In these calm waters, we were able to inspect the underside of the boat and realized that the damage sustained is structural. Under these conditions, we wouldn’t have been able to withstand another storm🌊
Upon reaching the Falklands, our intention was to repair our beloved vessel ourselves to rejoin the race. However, given the extent of the damage, we require assistance from the outside. Unfortunately, this means we are now outside any rankings for Leg 3.
💪We are working hard and putting forth our best efforts to resolve the problem as soon as possible and prepare to rejoin the regatta for Leg 4. We are grateful for the support we’re receiving from many people during this challenging time, and we are confident that with our work and their help, we will regroup and restart from Punta del Este.
We believe in humans❤️
