Last weekend we had a brilliant evening at the final night of the Para Athletics in the Stade de France, Paris 🇫🇷

We combined our trip with a couple of days exploring the city. It’s such a brilliant place to spend a weekend and there’s so much to see and do for small and not so small adventurers.

More than just holidays, .bigadventures is about family adventures and awesome memories.

We will remember our Paralympics experience and our trip to Paris for a very long time.

In our view some of the best places to stay are those that are quirky, boutique or unique to the location.

Here we have chosen some of the most unusual stays for families.

⭐️ Montana Magica Lodge Chile - Volcano shaped hotel with a waterfall cascading down its side.

⭐️ Giraffe Manor Kenya - giraffes roam freely around the grounds and make an appearance at mealtimes through the windows of the manor to be fed.

⭐️Treehouse Sweden - with rooms in various whimsical designs such as UFO, Bird’s Nest or Biosphere.

⭐️ Icehotel Sweden - redesigned every year and made entirely from ice and snow.

⭐️ Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort Finland - Glass igloos for viewing the Northern Lights.

⭐️ Cappadocia Cave Suites Turkey - rooms carved into the rock formations.

⭐️ Hotel Costa Verde Costa Rica - a converted Boeing 727 plane in the jungle.

Which one would you choose?

Those of you that have followed us for a while will know that we make use our first hand knowledge to plan all of the trips for our Little People Families.

This summer we are off to research North Macedonia and Albania.

With so much history and culture, beautiful beaches (in Albania) and stunning scenery in the National Parks there is so much to see with children in these two relatively undiscovered countries.

We look forward to sharing our top finds when we get back.

We are receiving lots of lovely messages today from our Little People Families that have cancelled or delayed flights due to the global IT outage.

Now, I know I am biased but I think building a great relationship with a Travel Designer is an important part of planning the perfect holiday.

It means that we know exactly what you are looking for in each of your trips, from the type of accommodation to the length of transfer and the type of experiences you want.

This makes the process quicker each time we plan a holiday for you.

Normally at this point I would tell you about the many benefits that we bring, the first hand knowledge of all our destinations; the relationships with our partners that give you exclusive access to many experiences; or those little enhancements we can make that you haven’t thought of.

But today I know that many of our clients are really happy that we are taking their stress away with flight delays and cancellations.

⭐️ We are liaising with airlines and updating our clients

⭐️ We are sorting hotel rooms for those people in destination that can’t travel today

⭐️ We are working with our transport partners to change transfer times and make sure everyone arrives at the airport on time

⭐️ We are making sure that you are being well looked after

All of this is just as important on an intricately planned itinerary as it is on a one stop trip, especially when you are travelling with children.

We might save you the time and stress of researching and planning your own trip but we are also there when things don’t go according to plan.

If this sounds good we would love to help you with your next holiday. Get in touch any time .bigadventures

Enjoy some quiet time at the end of the day.

The boys are busy doing some of the activities from their Explorer Cards as everyone enjoys some peace before we get ready for dinner.

The cards are 50 fun activity prompts that we have written inspired by our own travels and games that we play to keep our boys entertained on a city break or think about what they’ve learnt whilst we travel from place to place in the car.

They are small enough to fit into your bag for when you are in need of some quick inspiration.

There are 50 activities split into 4 categories.

🔎For a day exploring a city choose a ‘Daily Mission’ for an activity to keep them entertained throughout the day

🎨 Whilst you are waiting for a meal or on a long road trip, put pen to paper (or restaurant napkin) and get those ‘Creative’ juices flowing.

🗺With ‘Where am I’ you can learn more about the place you are visiting (and sneak in a little bit of education)

💬 Grow in confidence as a traveller with our ‘Social’ category activities.

All of the activities are designed so that you need no other materials (except for maybe a pen or pencil in the creative section).

They can be yours now by following the link here. https://www.littlepeoplebigadventures.com/travel-products/p/explorer-cards

When someone asks us for a destination that has luxury boutique accommodation, wildlife, adventure, culture, the chance to mix with the local community and activities that you can do as a whole family there is one place that has it all.

The wonderful and varied teardrop island of Sri Lanka. 🇱🇰

With access to the best guides and so many unique and ‘ungoogleable’ experiences we would love to help you plan your dream holiday there.

How do you choose your flight time?

Do you maximise your time away and choose based on this?

Do you plan it around when your children can sleep either on the plane or when they arrive?

Sometimes there is limited choice because of the flight schedule to certain destinations.

Last year we collaborated with sleep expert Dr Sarah Gilchrist for advice on how to best choose your flight times to minimise jet lag and therefore make the most of your precious holiday time.

Here’s a summary of what she said, “West is best for adapting to new time zones and North or South travel doesn’t affect your body in the same way as East and West”.

Below are 6 top tips for adapting to your new time zone:

💤 Plan meal times around travelling and eat at the normal time for your new time zone.

💤 Hydrate as much as you can whilst you are travelling. The aircraft cabin will dehydrate you.

💤 Move around as much as you can during the journey or upon arrival.

💤 Try to avoid in appropriate napping to catch up on lost sleep.

💤 Seek as much natural light as you can during the day time. This is how our body clock knows is should be awake.

💤 Physical activity can help you stay awake and adjust more quickly - this should be easy on a family holiday.

If you are considering a trip to south east Asia here are 5 ‘bucket list’ experiences that might influence where you choose to go.

* Explore the stunning caves and waterfalls around Vang Vieng, Laos and enjoy a tubing experience down the Nam Song River.
* Swim with turtles in the reefs of the Philippines.
* Stay in a traditional village in Sapa, Vietnam. Take a gentle trek through the terraced rice fields and learn the customs and traditions of the local people.
* Embark on a jungle adventure in the rainforests of Borneo. Go in search of orangutans, Pygmy elephants and proboscis monkeys.
* Visit the Great Wall of China at Mutianyu, a less crowded well preserved section of the wall, take a cable car up and enjoy a toboggan down.

It was 4 years ago today that we launched Little People Big Adventures.

After having our own children we knew that those bespoke immersive trips that we were used to having ourselves and those that we planned for our clients in our sister brand The Travel Design company were not going to be a thing of the past.

We wanted to curate trips with young families in mind - where parents don’t have to give up their love to travelling - it’s about travelling differently. Finding those adventures that keep all members of the family entertained.

Over the last 4 years we have made it our mission to work with our handpicked local partners to design trips with those ‘not easy to find on Google’ activities and to help you make the most of those precious moments together on holiday.

We are very grateful to all of the families that trust in us to book their trips.

Please share this with all your friends that you think may like this style of travel.

When is it too early to book?

Well, in our view, it’s always good to have that next trip booked and have something to look forward to.

We already have many of our own trips planned for next year and we are not alone.

So, whether you are thinking about Easter, Summer or even Christmas 2025,
we are already seeing some big trends forming.

Some of our most popular destinations at the moment are Sri Lanka, Costa Rica, Vietnam and Japan.

Closer to home, and for those looking for something a little different, up and coming options like Albania and Montenegro are beautiful destinations that haven’t yet come to everyone’s attention. But, they won’t stay a secret forever, so there’s never been a better time to pop them on your ‘must visit’ list.

Sadly gone are the days of the last minute deal and now the more favourable airline prices come from booking in advance. As many of the hotels we work with are more boutique they are already seeing limited availability for some of the key seasons next year.

If you already have some ideas or need some inspiration please get in touch.

Share this with your family and friends.

Known for its seamless blend of luxury and natural wonders the Seychelles is a great destination for island hopping.

Our suggested hotel pairing of Raffles Seychelles and Six Senses Zil Pasyon are perfect for families and help you make the most of Praslin and Felicite Island, with the chance to explore beautiful beaches, vibrant marine life and unique wildlife.

🐚 See the unique Coco de Mer nut and the diverse wildlife of UNESCO World Heritage Site Vallée de Mai.
🐚 Visit Curieuse Island, home to giant Aldabra Tortoises.
🐚 Snorkel with sea turtles and other sea life in the marine park.
🐚 On Felicite Island explore stunning beaches and exceptional snorkelling opportunities with turtles, rays and plenty of fish.
🐚 Explore the nature trails of the lush forests.

Whilst we often talk in a very spirited way about the ‘destinations’ that we visit (I too am guilty of this) it is important to remember that these are actually people’s homes.

That’s not to say that we shouldn’t visit, because many of these places rely on visitors for their economy. But, there is much more that we can do to be more responsible travellers.

Here are some ways that we help our clients to be more more sustainable in the way they travel:

🌎 Consider visiting ‘off season’ when there are few crowds and just as many experiences. Some experiences only happen at this time, like whale watching in Iceland.

🌎 Choose locally owned hotels and those who are adopting sustainable travel practices.

🌎 Partnering with local guides and immersive experience providers. This is not only the most insightful way to experience a place but also makes a positive impact on the local community.

🌎 Where possible we promote using transport that has a positive impact on the environment. Whether that is electric vehicles, using trains rather than internal flights or cycling and walking.

🌎 For itineraries that feature wildlife, such as our African safaris we are careful to only work with those that promote animal welfare and conservation.

This we are proud to share that we are working with our local suppliers to eliminate the use of single use plastics by 2030.

Do you actively look for those companies that promote sustainable travel when you are booking your holidays?

It’s great to be back in Morocco 🇲🇦 and after a brief stop in Marrakech (we have a longer stay at the end of the trip) we have begun our trip through the High Atlas mountains.

Here are some of our highlights so far:

Following in the footsteps of movie stars at the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou.
Visiting hilltop Berber villages and hiking to the waterfalls in the steep valley of L’Ourika

Seeing the Kasbah of Taourirt (sadly this is currently closed due to the damage it received in the earthquake last September)

Driving through the wadis and oases of Dades Gorge and the spectacular Gorges of Todra.

This photo is a flashback to two years ago when we spent some of the Easter holidays on a city break in Istanbul.

Perhaps not the most obvious place for a city break with children, however it’s a mix of the ‘old and new’ and provides a fascinating contrast of places to explore to keep inquisitive little minds occupied.

April is a great time to visit as:

☀️The weather is getting slightly warmer and you are ahead of the summer crowds.

🌷 The city is in bloom, from the tulip festival in Emigran Park to the cherry blossoms in Gilhane Park.

🎭 The city is dotted with springtime festivals and events, from gastronomy to comics and arts.

🍴It’s warm enough for alfresco dining so you can eat amongst the locals and soak up the city’s bustling atmosphere.

🚤 For a change from city life a walk around Princes Islands in the sunshine makes for a slower pace of exploration.

For our top picks on what to do in Istanbul with children you can read our blog through the link in our bio.

Our story

We have a love of travel and experiencing things that are off the beaten track.

We help you have amazing holidays with your little people.

When we had our children everyone said to us “there will not be as many holidays now”. We were determined that that wouldn’t be the case, not only because we loved them so much. But because it is really important to us to show our little boys the world and expose them to different cultures.

For us, it wasn’t about less holidays, it was about adapting slightly the ones that we always had. Holidays are an important time to spend together given the precious time that we spend away from work. Now, with our children that time to experience new things together is even more precious. It is about exposing them to different cultures and giving them new experiences that enhances their childhood and broadens their views of the world. (Not a kids club in sight)
