South African Safari
Hey everyone, Megan here! I’m just back from a South African safari with Newmarket Holidays and wanted to share my amazing experience with you all 🦁🇿🇦
We fly from London Heathrow to Johannesburg with Virgin Atlantic, the flight was super comfortable and the staff couldn’t have done enough for us! ✈️
We were staying at the Sebatana Elephant Lodge, which was about a 4-hour drive from Johannesburg airport, but wow it was worth the journey! The rooms were spotlessly clean and you got turndown service every night🥹. It felt so so safe, I barely even locked my room the full time I was there! The food was unreal - I was slightly worried beforehand as I’m vegetarian, but the chefs were absolutely amazing & made sure there was always something to suit me. The bar staff were incredible, so friendly and definitely knew how to make a fab strawberry daiquiri🍓. We were all inclusive at the lodge, which I would say is definitely worth it!
Throughout the course of the week, we went on multiple safari’s around the Sebatana reserve, where we seen various animals including giraffes & zebras! We also went on 3 game drives in search of the “Big Five”, where we were lucky enough to spot 4 out of the 5 - lions, elephants, buffalos & rhinos🤩. You do get 1 game drive included as part of the Newmarket tour which is to Welgevonden Reserve, however I would highly recommend adding on the trip to Pilanesberg National Park and the trip to Kaingo Game Reserve - you want to try maximise your chances of seeing the Big 5 when you are travelling such a distance!
It wasn’t all about the safari’s though - we had lots of time to chill by the pool (with a daiquiri in hand of course😆) which was amazing considering it was 30 degrees most days we were there! We had a lovely Champagne Bush Brunch which had the most amazing views overlooking the reserve, whilst doing a competition over which group could make the best “bush hat” - what a laugh we had!
