Treelight specializes in developing & leading 2-4 day backcountry camping trips for families with young children infant-elementary, but we welcome anyone ready for an adventure!

As happens with every adventure, we’ve reached the end of the trail…

Treelight is closing down operations. To all of our friends, supporters, and clients - THANK YOU! You’ve made this journey the best it could possibly be, and our gratitude goes out to you. Even though sadly we won’t be the ones to get you and your family out there into the wild, we hope to bump into you out on the trails nonetheless!

Here is our closing statement from our Founder & Head Guide, Alec:

“As must eventually happen with every adventure, Treelight has reached the end of its trail, and after careful consideration, we have decided to close down our operations as your local backpacking guides. Our deepest gratitude goes out to all of you for your support and friendship as our company grew, and for your continued backing as our operations took off. Sadly, we were never quite able to hit our full stride, and in order to stay true to Treelight’s original mission, we recognize that the best way in which we can continue to serve is by redistributing our time, energy, and resources into other avenues for outdoor exploration. Although we won’t be the ones to get you there, we sure hope to see you on the trails! Happy hiking to one and all.

This is a time for our amazing crew to catch up on their own projects, ascents, trails, and explorations, and get a little R&R before being back on call in early August! Our office will be empty, but Alec, our Head Guide, will be checking emails frequently to get back to you with answers to your questions, confirmations on sign ups, and to help with any of your needs! Oregon Coast backpacking is here! Treelight has OVERNIGHT, 2 days-1 night trips stacked up throughout August and September. Overnight trips are the perfect way to ease into backpacking, with lighter loads, fewer miles, and just one night of sleeping out. You’ll learn some of the basics of navigation, trail food, setting up camp, getting water in the wilderness, and LOTS about the natural beauty of our incredible coastline! Want to know more? Have you ever heard of “Repeat Photography?” On backpacking trips, we often use this tool as a fun and interesting activity to examine changing climates, seasonal differences, and environmental impacts over long periods of time… It’s a lot like a scavenger hunt! Using an old photo (like the one here on the left from 1920), we can work out approximately where the photo was originally taken, and then use the things in the background, middle ground, and foreground to try to recreate the photo as closely as possible to the original. Can you imagine the change that’s happened from 1920-2022? That’s 102 years!!!
These two photos of Mount Jefferson, from Marion Lake, are dated 1920 (L) and 2011 (R) - though not an exact match in photo location, they’re pretty darn close!
