Passport Book vs. Passport Card: What’s the Difference?

Planning a trip and unsure whether you need a passport book or a passport card? Here’s a quick breakdown to help you decide:

Passport Book 📖
• Use: The passport book is your all-access pass for international travel by air, land, or sea.
• Where You Can Go: It’s valid for travel to any country worldwide.
• Cost: More expensive, but it’s the most versatile option for frequent or international travelers.
• Best For: Those flying internationally or traveling beyond neighboring countries.

Passport Card 💳
• Use: The passport card is valid for travel by land and sea only.
• Where You Can Go: It’s limited to the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean.
• Cost: More affordable than the passport book.
• Best For: Road trips or cruises to neighboring countries (but no air travel).

Key Difference: The passport card cannot be used for international flights. If you plan to fly overseas, you’ll need a passport book.

Pro Tip: If you travel often, consider getting both for flexibility! The card is handy for quick trips, while the book has you covered for everything else.

The Terminal B lobby will close on January 21, 2025, and will remain closed until late 2026. If you are a United Airlines customer flying from Terminals A, B, C, or E, please check in at the Terminal C lobby and arrive 2-3 hours before your flight. United Airlines gates B3–B31 will still be operational during this time.

The A/B parking garages will remain open, but parking in Terminal C is recommended for easier access to your flight. If any of the garages are full, the EcoPark off-airport parking shuttle service will still be available.

In February 2025, some United Airlines passengers will begin using the new departures level at the new International Central Processor (ICP) facility to do the check-in process.

Starting Wednesday visitors to the UK from dozens of countries will have to pay a new travel authorization fee before entering.

Global Entry applicants under the age of 18 are now exempt from the application fee if a parent or legal guardian is already a member or is also applying for Global Entry.

Starting yesterday, the application fee for a five-year Global Entry membership for adults now costs $120. This marks the first Global Entry price increase since 2009. Under the new rule, a family of four that includes two kids will pay only $240 to apply for Global Entry ($120 for each adult, $0 for each child under 18).

Like Global Entry, the application fees for Nexus and SENTRI, two of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection's other Trusted Traveler Programs, are also now $120, but children under the age of 18 can apply for free.

Nexus is a joint program managed by the CBP and the Canada Border Services Agency that allows expedited processing between the U.S. and Canada, while SENTRI does the same between the U.S. and Mexico.

Southwest Airlines is getting rid of open seating

The Harris County District Clerk’s Office is always proactive when it comes to serving our community. That’s why this week our Passport section has started accepting walk-in customers that have to submit a passport application Monday through Friday and haven’t been able to schedule an appointment. This new service makes getting a passport even more convenient for Harris County residents, in addition to our Saturday passport fairs. Applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, a valid photo ID, and passport photos. PSA ON PLANE EXITING ETIQUETTE.

It doesn’t matter if the aisle is clear. You’re supposed to wait until the row in front of you has left before exiting. The only exception to this is if the people in front of you explicitly wave you forward. This!!!
