Cuenca at last! A visit to a paja toquillo factory, or more widely known as a Panama Hat. They originated in Ecuador but became known as Panama Hats because that’s where they were being sold internationally. Later, as the story goes, Theodore Roosevelt was photographed wearing one while inspecting the Panama Canal construction. The rest is history. That they are of Ecuadorian origin there is no doubt.

Short stop in the Cajas. I think we were at 11,000 feet. We left hot and steamy Guayaquil earlier and now we need jackets. And oxygen. The air is a little thin here. LOL
