🤸 HUMANS OF THE LIVERPOOL PLAINS - SUNFLOWER TRAIL EDITION 🤸

Meet Ian Carter from “Romney Vale”. See the Liverpool Plains through his eyes...

Where should people stop for coffee on their way to see the sunflowers at your property?
There are several coffee spots in Quirindi and three pubs so always something to eat or drink.

Hidden gem spot on the Liverpool Plains?
While you're in Quirindi, drive up to “Who’d a thought it” lookout for some great district views. You will get a fantastic sunset view and then visit the Quirindi Silo Art light and sound show after it gets dark.

You've got a day to spend on the Liverpool Plains. What do you do?
Definitely a drive. You could do Caroona, Spring Ridge, Blackville, Willow Tree, Quirindi to take in the beautiful black soil plains with a constant backdrop of the Liverpool Range or cruise out via Wallabadah to Nundle NSW and Hanging Rock which is much cooler on a hot day.

Why do you love the Liverpool Plains?
It is such a pretty area with sweeping views combined with some of the most productive soils in Australia which allow production of a large range of summer and winter crops. It always looks good to come home to.

My pick would be The Plains Pantry in Willow Tree.

Hidden gem spot on the Liverpool Plains?
Caroona store - chicken burgers on a Friday are a Windy team favourite.

Pursehouse Rural Quirindi. We couldn't operate our farm without Pursehouse - they are the one stop ag supply shop for us and a local success story.

The Liverpool Plains is not only aesthetically attractive but also a powerhouse agricultural region boasting some of the best soils in the country. It’s a pleasure to be able to farm and raise our family in this region.

🤸 HUMANS OF THE LIVERPOOL PLAINS - SUNFLOWER TRAIL EDITION 🤸

Meet Mick and Laura Hockey from “Springfield”, Spring Ridge. See the Liverpool Plains through their eyes...

Where should people stop for coffee on their way to see the sunflowers at your property?
Harvest Spring Ridge - a wonderful little shop with all could you need, whether you need a coffee, cool drink, something to eat or a little shop they’ve got you covered. Wonderful and friendly staff also.

Hidden gem spot on the Liverpool Plains?
Goran Lake. A shallow lake that fills up every now again when there has been a lot of rainfall. One in every 15 years or more. You can see this best on the South Wandobah Road.

What's your local business recommendation?
If you’re looking for a stunning backdrop to a special event – be that a wedding, corporate function or community event – make sure you consider Springfield Woolshed. You’ll be stepping into a piece of history at our 100-year-old woolshed, beautifully restored in 2015. The rustic charm and authentic atmosphere make it the perfect setting to create lasting memories! Alongside the woolshed, you will find a delightful farm stay cottage, providing a cozy and inviting retreat for guests.

You've got a day to spend on the Liverpool Plains. What do you do?
If you're open to a scenic drive, we recommend starting your journey in Spring Ridge village. Stop by Harvest for a morning coffee and stock up on snacks. From there, head towards Blackville and then return to Willow Tree, where you'll find excellent dining options. Enjoy delightful meals at The Plains Pantry or Graze at the Willow Tree Inn and don't forget to pick up some delicious meat from the local butcher for afternoon drinks and BBQ. A great adventure.

Why do you love the Liverpool Plains?
From a farming perspective – fertile soils, vast landscapes, diverse opportunities for agriculture, plus the strong community spirit and a really central area with many opportunities. We love the people, the beautiful surrounds and scenery, opportunities and proximity to major town centres, the great events and festivals that are on in the area and its our home. We are so proud of it!

DID YOU KNOW? 🌻

You may have heard the myth that sunflowers follow the Sun. According to researchers, it's only young sunflowers that do this as they grow. They follow a natural circadian rhythm to receive the most light for photosynthesis.

When they mature and the flower bud opens, the flowers will mainly face east.

Come and visit the sunflowers this summer on the Liverpool Plains Sunflower Trail! Head over to our website more info.

DID YOU KNOW?

Sunflower kernels are high in vitamin E, selenium, phenolic acids and flavonoids which function as antioxidants to protect your body’s cells against free radical damage 🧘

You can find sunflower kernels commonly used in breakfast cereals, bread and snack bars.

Check out these shots from a sunflower-themed cooking class - they used the seeds as well as the whole flower 🌻
